Following the link, Gashole.

Oh, and I would REALLY appreciate some feedback as to how my writing is as well (I love constructive criticism!). Leave me a review on the site?

I wrote this 2 years ago, so it's probably not too good though . . . there's a review button at the bottom of the page of the link.

Ah, cool. I'd leave a feedback there, but to do so you have to register, right? I do have a membername, but for the life of me I can't remember my password and which e-mail address I used when I registered.

Hmm... since I don't really remember the ending I can't do too much comparison. Maybe you should explain what exactly happened to Roger and Jack? Did they die from the lightning or they started to kill themselves? What happened to their followers then once the leaders died? Haha, again I don't really remember the story, so if I'm not making too much sense, don't mind me.

Then a tidal wave came and wiped the rest of them out.

What happened to your ankle?
And to stay on topic: Who here reads Harry Potter?
xrninja
Oct 10 2004, 12:54 AM
the lord of the flies book was excellent, the movie sucked. ugh. i've been to busy to read lately but my favorites of all time are the phantom tollbooth and where the red fern grows (all discovered in 4th grade, what a lucky year for reading). once i have more time i've resolved to read the classics: pride and prejudice, emma, most of the jane austen works....and walden by thoreau, if i'm up to it

;; for some reason i really like reading children's chapter books for fun at the library, it takes me back

dunno why but i really like the redwall series, even if it's repetitive as hell. i want to reread the narnia series because the last time i read it was in elementary school or middle school....shakespeare is good too, but i usually don't read it outside of class. currently i'm reading sun tzu's art of war; i attempted to read some of the chinese version, but i couldn't understand very much of it (except for the "sun" in his name! cause it's the same sun in my last name too

maybe he's some ancestor of mine).
harry potter, good stuff...i need to reread the 5th book because i rushed through it so quickly last time, i don't remember anything that happened =P
speaking of rushing, i read the da vinci code in two days

between STAR testing (california's standardized tests)...i want to read the other books by dan brown! angels and demons especially.
Quistis88
Oct 10 2004, 12:55 AM
I've been wanting to pick up the "Da Vinci Code" as well, but haven't had the time or wanted to spend the money (even if I have a discount card at the Chapters store!). Was it good?
I've read four of Shakespeare's comedies on my own time, and I quite enjoyed them. And it's a good thing I read them because if I did not, I would actually have to read one for a class I'm taking now, so I'm ahead in some respects!
xrninja
Oct 10 2004, 01:09 AM
yeah, i liked it! i'm usually not interested in more suspenseful books but this one really caught my attention. i really like riddles and codes, and the way dan brown tied everything together was amazing. it's one of those books you really can't put down, so only read it if you've got very good self control or a lot of time. i think it's worth the money, and i want to get his other two books, angels and demons, and digital fortress. i'm into art and a lot of da vinci code centered around art featured in the louvre, and the mona lisa the most. sometimes his descriptions are a little cheesy but overall i think it's a great read

my dad hid it during most of the school year because he knew i'd start reading it and not be able to stop....

;;
Quistis88
Oct 10 2004, 01:11 AM
Ahh, I see. What does the book mention regarding the Mona Lisa? I've always been intrigued by that painting, and why she has no eyebrows. Also the many controversies to who she is (Da Vinci's female alter-ego, his mother, his lover, etc.).
*yawns* I should go to bed, now, haha! It's 0200 hours!
xrninja
Oct 10 2004, 01:18 AM
ahh, see, but that would ruin the book for you! it does play a big part in the book: the painting itself, the mona lisa in it, da vinci most of all (i saw it a year or two ago when i went to paris, i think i would have been more interested in it if this book had been published earlier and i had read it

;; the crowds at the louvre are crazy...). but i'd say....read it and find out

reject your gut asian stinginess and buy it! XD

I love Harry Potter! I am so waiting for book 6! My favorite characters are James and Lily and Sirius! Oh and I like Lupin too! So, I read it for the older generation, rather than Harry and his generation!
I also read Diana Wynne Jones books. I liked Howl's Moving Castle. Want to see the new Ghibli Studios movie based on it.
Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause was pretty good
Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality are ok, On a Pale Horse is my favorite. But I stopped reading them after the 4th book becuase they got to.....dirty? for me.... To many "I am sleeping with this person now, but then that person next week"- type of dirty.
I have noticed that most of the books i like to read are in the young adult section. I don't seem to like "adult" books.

I love reading! Before I got acess to internet, I could only read without stopping. Have you seen 'Read or die' anime? My apartment koos exactly like Yomiko's. Haha! I'm such a Scrooge when it comes to money, true. Plus, I'm a starving student, LOL. I suppose I
will buy it after all.

It's on sale now, and I do get a discount! (There's that Asian stinginess again!)
I think I buy more books after getting that discount card than hitherto . . . heh.
Gashole
Oct 10 2004, 12:06 PM
Ah, so the Asian stinginess is well-known after all. So I'm not the only one.

I used to buy books only in libraries' shops. Cheap stuff, cost only between 50 cents to 1 dollar without tax. And if you're lucky, you do find good books. But like I said, I don't really buy books nowadays. (Except for textbooks, which make a $6 book cheap in comparison.

)
Quistis88
Oct 10 2004, 12:10 PM
Yeah, textbooks really lighten up the wallet . . . I'm planning on returning all the ones that I don't want to keep (like my Linguistics text! I hate that course so much!). Good thing the university takes your textbooks, labelled them as "USED", and sell them back to other people who may want them . . .
Gashole
Oct 10 2004, 12:14 PM
Universities pay only 50% of the original price, though. If you want better money, just offer your books straight to people who need them. Lower the prices slightly from those of the bookstore. Selling over the Internet is also good.
Thievesvinegar
Oct 10 2004, 12:16 PM
but its not that great of a deal, b/c it depends on what kind of books you have ,if they're needed again or whatever so they offer you different deals. I was offered 10 bucks for my $60 psy book and 40 bucks for my $110 microsoft apps. one. Which was the worst class i've ever wasted my time in.

Reading atm: Great Expectations (for school *sighs*), Sea of Swords by RA Salvatore, just started the new discworld novel, Going Postal, which has started good (but I have too much of a hangover to carry on with atm *sighs harder*).
I've read a lot of stuff in my time, within the last 4 months, I've read One Flew over the cuckoo's nest, all of the Harry Potter's (again), the LoTR and the hobbit (again, why does everyone hate it?O_o), the earthsea chronicles, the Thomas Covenant books, possibly some william gibson, a LOAD of RA Salvatore (mostly good old Drizzt, but I read all his star wars books as well lol). There's more but I'm too tired to type properly any more.

It's exceptional thus far (currently on chapter 27)! I love the factual tidbits here and there regarding architecture and the like. And I loved the excellent explanation of PHI (maybe I just didn't understand it when I was little). I'm very intrigued and am curious of the anagnorisis of this book.

Chapter 27?? That's so insane, you read too fast.
Quistis88
Oct 11 2004, 01:52 PM
Actually, the chapters are quite short.

But according to some of my friends, I read a little faster than the average person, which really comes in handy now that I have all these required texts/novels to read for my courses . . .
And if you're curious, I'm on chapter 43 now. And I figured out the account number before the characters did! I'm proud of myself!

It's
excellent, though I would recommend it for the more "well-read" reader, since some concepts and references might be lost on some people. It's amazingly intricate, and for those who like Leonardo da Vinci's artwork and the "conspiracies" regarding said works will find the book very enjoyable.
And ANBU, I live in Canada.

Hmm.. what is your exact definition of "well-read"? I'm one of those people who read a lot (a common definition of "well-read") but I can never remember details. Unless I finish the book within a week, I'm probably going to forget half the facts I'm supposed to remember.

I suppose my definition of a "well-read" person would be an individual who is knowledgeable in many things due to a fair amount of reading/research, and generally being able to pick out standard allusions (Greek mythology, well-known idioms, etc.) in a piece of literature. *shrugs*
