Plot Summary: In some distant future, it's common knowledge that all wolves have been extinct for 200 years. However, it seems this is false as wolves have not disappeared but rather have taken human form. Kiba, a lone wolf, wanders into a city, trying to sniff out the Lunar Flowers that are supposed to lead whoever follows the scent to paradise. The source of the smell is Cheza, a girl who sleeps in what appears to be suspended animation in a lab. She and the wolves are drawn to each other, and Kiba hopes to find paradise once he finds the source of the scent of Lunar Flowers. However, once Kiba finds Cheza, she is kidnapped by a mysterious person called Darcia, and his search begins anew. Before he leaves the city, he meets 3 other wolves, Tsume, Hige and Toboe. All four wolves have very different personalities and ideas, and their friendliness towards each other is a little rough around the edges. However, they soon band together to continue to search for paradise.

i've only seen bits and pieces of this anime so i really can't judge... but what i do like about this anime is its music... another yoko kanno masterpiece, especially "gravity" sung by maaya sakamoto. so short, yet bitter sweet.

Wolf's Rain is an anime by Studio Bones and much of the same crew behind Cowboy Bebop save for Shinichiro Watanabe. It focuses on a group of wolves who have the ability to telepathically disguise themselves as humans. It takes place in the future on earth after some sort of devasting cataclysm. The wolves are searching for a mythical place called, "Paradise". The villains of the series are the enigmatic Nobles who are somehow related to the wolves and are also searching for Paradise. It's a 30 episode series and its really well made. The English dubbed version airs on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim and it is fantastic.

Good description. I have nothing to add except that it's a very emotional show. The settings are very bleak, the characters seem either perpetually depressed or else too naive to be. But the show's not a whiny, spooky, I'm-so-sad "gothic" self-indulgence. The music, as has been mentioned, adds to the feeling of loneliness which runs throughout everything in this show. But it does this by being either upbeat or nonexistent. It forms this contrast or emphasis, which is a soundtrack's job, but the emphasis is overwhelming and the contrast stark.
I'm an emotional rock. I mean I'm tough. Dancer in the Dark didn't make me cry (I teared up a little...a little). Nearing the end of Wolf's Rain is an episode which made me cry and go to bed at noon. It's a good show.
Note: I was watching a good fansub. I haven't seen the American dub and so my statements do not apply to it.

i wanted to watch it, but it was licensed so i turned to cartoon network instead. the art seemed great but the first big turnoff was that joshua seth played one of the main characters, and i am really, really sick of hearing him in every single dub out there. and then i heard some of the other voices, and in my opinion, they aren't wonderful either. i didn't watch any more after that, so don't trust my opinion on the dubbing. kiba and tsume look really cool, though, so maybe i'll go back and watch sometime if it's still playing

It's really, really good. It's, as was said above, 'gothic', there are almost no jokes, but the whoe atmosphere isn't depressive, it's sad and beautiful.

Sad as in, people don't really cry very often in this show because they simply have no more tears to shed. As in, life is just always like this so what's sad about it?
It's sad because it only occasionally dawns on the characters precisely how sad their lives are.
Someone said it's sad and beautiful and with that, I'd definitely have to agree. It's sad the way living in the last days of the age of mankind would be sad. The way idly knowing, somewhere on the periphery of your mind, that you are among the last generation of a soon-to-be extinct species.
Don't get me wrong though, it never quite throws it in your face. It lets you feel the permeating melancholy for yourself, and define it in your own terms. Perhaps, for you, there is some hope. Maybe there isn't.
Geez what a good show!

Same here, same here. But what I think really made me sad was that when the world was reborn again( with new new people and everything) , even though they went through all of that, Tsume ,Blue,Toboe,&Hiege, they didn't even get to be reborn as wolfs again to help kiba in the search for cheza; and for paradise. Truly a sad enging.

No, no, don't fight now.
I must say that I didn't really fancy the series that much. It was a little too boring and slow for my taste. I really liked the beginning and the end though. Plus I do think that the idea and whole concept with the humans and wolves was great.
I kind of understand the series, even though it was a little wierd at the end. It's much harder to explain though. Some things weren't so clear to me either.
All in all it was a very touching and beautiful series. I wish that people hadn't spoiled the end for me, becuase I was too prepared(yes, exactly, don't spoil yourself). Still, I was at least a little surprised.
The reason I watched this was becuase of Kiba (weird me

). I saw his picture and decided that I had to see the anime and I ended up watching it all. I'm glad I did.
And kiba's mate: I actually think that FMA
does have what it takes for a truly fantastic anime series. It's the best there is actually(with Digimon

) but that's just my opinion though. If you're here I would think that you would consider it mighty great too, even if you think that Wolf's Rain is better. Check the threads in the FMA anime section about why people love that series so much

Toboe DIES!?! Oh god, I can't believe it! And I can't believe I'm such a stupid idiot that I had to blow that for myself!! GAAAAAAH! I've only gotten as far as Cher dying, and I cried. Not for Cher but for Hubb. I mean he is just such a trooper. Jesus what a sad show. *sniff*
Christ you'd think for someone who hates spoilers as much as I do, I'd learn my goddamn lesson. It's...it's those 'spoiler' tags! They're too fun to click on! They entice! They're an attractive nuisance!!
*breaks down in wracking sobs* But that will never ever be a surprise to me now. That's so depressing. As a storyteller myself, I absolutely hate it when the pacing and momentum of a story is ruined, such as when someone finds something out before they're supposed to. It's just so vitally important to the storytelling process to withhold information until the relevant time.
I...just...wish I could resist those damn soiler tags.... Sorry for the rant everyone...I'm just very upset with myself...nevermind me.

I hate getting spoiled too, and I do it myself too!
But someone/some poeple sploiled for me that EDIT: I took that away... probably you'd click it anyway.
But well, it was information that I didn't want to know. Wolf's Rain is one of those serieses that shouldn't be spolied. I think that that took quite a bit of the enjoyment away from me.
FMA is another series. I'm so happy that I didn't get spolied... oh well, about the end anyway.. I did make a few shocking realisations before that...

Yes, Wolf's Rain is a depressing, however, great show. It has its moments of suspense and sadness here and there (mainly on the "Final Four". AKA OAV) but it still attaches you with the plot by making you wonder about so many questions...
Will the wolves reveal themselves to the humans? Will they possibly be aliies/friends? Who is "so-and-so"? What else does it say in the book of the moon?
Watching it at first can be dull but stick into it with the first volume of the DVD and you're good to go.

Ok. Here's what happened. After Darshia was rejected from entering paradise, the world started all over. With me so far? good. Anyway, if you remember before dying, cheza told kiba to look for her right? right. ANd so, when the world was reborn, and so was kiba, he went out in the city to look for her. As you may have noticied in one of the final scenes, ther is a lunar flower growing in the back of an alley. You obiously thought this was cheza. Well, chances are it wwasn't. I think that it sort of was like a part of her left behind fror kiba to find her by.(you know sort of like a trail of bread crubs. Of coarse this time, it was a trail of lunar flowers.) ANyway the seris ends with the wolves I think being human, and kiba left as the one to search for cheza, and perhaps paradise, once more.[

^^ Wolf's Rain, I feel is underrated, it's a very good series and I don't meet that many people who are crazy about it.
The American dub is alright, I think Hige's voice irked me because the voice is used throughout soooo many dubbed anime series that it's not even funny.
There's something about Cheza that also irked me to no end...I think it's her obsessiveness to pink and everything girly or because everyone acts as if she's a princess that is so freaking fragile that they can't drop her or she'll break into small pieces of glass. *shrug*
Though overall I think my favorite character is definitely Tsume ^^, He's just so awesome, and the leather *drool*. Quent is my second favorite, followed by Hub.

Yup! I think I mentioned this before in the other thread... it's probably the slow paced plot that steers people away. All in all it's really great even if it's sad an depressing.
My favourite chracter is probably Kiba(because he's a hunk

and the reason why I started watching Wolf's Rain in the first place), but I also like Tsume and Hubb. I like Tsume's attitude and Hubb's devotion to Cher
