lol i is try to use the good grammer and spellig most of tha time but happens not all the time i tink i is good job of doing it tho.

lol jk i have very good grammar and spelling and such. Just on the internet i dont use it tongue.gif
wolfi1412
same here.. don't like to use full words in the internet..
Quistis88
I use "perfect" grammar, spelling, and punctuation when IM-ing (when I'm not making typos, which I rarely do). It sometimes makes people feel inferior. biggrin.gif Haha.
wolfi1412
...I so hate grammar, I mean so weird.. we're currently studying grammar in English Class, and we have to study the verbs, pronouns, and all the different kinds of each stuff!! it's not like when u're typing an essay or paper, u'll be saying," hm.. I think I need an indefinite pronoun over there.. beside the antecedent" lol.
Quistis88
Haha. laugh.gif But grammar is quite useful when writing formal things, so as to not make a fool of yourself to someone who might actually know proper grammar, which is quite rare these days. The level of grammar/spelling/vocabulary used by people in school is atrocious.
wolfi1412
I know.. my dad said that I've broke my grammar up by reading Archie Comics..
Ailuro
Gosh. I'm a grammar freak..
When we had to fill out this worksheet in L.A 10, everyone kept asking me whether it was a verb or an adjective. ¬¬;
I feel like I got stuck with the idiots, and English is their first language! >_<
wolfi1412
verbs and adjective are totally different, but the only think I got stressed out is the types of verbs and pronouns, adjectives and stuff.. such as indefinite, copula, etc,
Quistis88
I used to read many Archie comics as well. And I basically learned all my English from television, believe it or not. I discovered the wonders of Closed Captioning, and I always kept it on (which annoyed my brother, who, may I add, cannot spell). It helped immensely because at the same time that the words are spoken, I hear the way it sounds, AND how it is spelled, and visually, I can see how it is used in situational contexts. biggrin.gif
wolfi1412
wow... u're a fast learner and stuff..
Ailuro
Impressive. Seeing as English is such a messed up language with all of its exceptions to rules and such.
wolfi1412
well, French too.
Ailuro
Hm. I guess so.
wolfi1412
and Chinese too, well but not in the same 'difficulty' problem, in Chinese, if u forgot just one lil' dot, it will be a different sound and meaning.
Quistis88

Thank you, but that was back when I was approximately 7 years of age, so naturally, the learning process would not be as long.
wolfi1412
oh, I thought like when u're around now..
Quistis88
That's all right. I only wish I could know as much French or Japanese as I do English. biggrin.gif

Really? When I'm on my grammar-freak-mode and use "one another" instead of "each other," he or she instead of "they," etc., especially on casual forum conversations, I feel like I'm rubbing it. That's why I'm trying to be less grammatically correct now. I think it also makes me look more native-like. laugh.gif
wolfi1412
lol... oh, HI Gashole!
Gashole
Hey, I'm gonna be on for just a little longer. wink.gif
Then I'm gonna log off.
wolfi1412
same here... that, if u believe.
Quistis88
I see that you're flooding again, wolfi. smile.gif
wolfi1412
in a minute I'll be gone.. and I'll try to not flood.. but i can't!! it's as if.. in my blood.. ><!
Gashole
Tip: When you post, write at least a paragraph. That should get your flooding tendency out of your system. wink.gif
wolfi1412
that's hard.. I like typing stuff in a sentence, the only paragraphs I typed was in the End of The World and essays.

Ive been accepted into Psychology, but I might switch it to Anthropology.

i'm going to Rhode Island School of Design, and we do a year of Foundation Studies before we pick our majors in march. i'm pretty sure i'll pick Graphic Design or Industrial Design, though, since they're both majors i'm really interested in and RISD's programs for both are ranked pretty high nation-wide.

i've kind of wanted to minor in japanese, but that's not possible since i'm going to an art school. so, i'm probably going to take japanese classes next door at Brown to make up for that.
Envy's lil' miniskirt
I'm out of college now but I majored in special effects for movies. Problem was the school I went to sucked and cost a lot of money so I didn't finish.

So everyone, I cannot stress this enough.

Never go to the Academy of Art............ever!!!

Or I will personally come and smack you upside your head! got it?

Received a BA in Philosophy
Completed half an M. Div (45 credit hours approx) - until money ran out sad.gif
Did some graduate business classes for general background

My philosophy background has allowed me to do analysis and business process work very quickly. It's the best thing I ever did and I'm so glad I wasn't another MBA clone laugh.gif My divinity training gave me the ability to do interpretation, which is basically what business analysis is, just with a different data set biggrin.gif.

I still wish I had the money to go to school for my PhD in philosophy, but I doubt I'm really smart enough and I doubt I'd be able to live in poverty for 4 years sad.gif - Plus it would be a major pay cut in the job market laugh.gif

Yes the very same. Thank god you didn't, I saw so many of my classmate leave in furstration it wasn't even funny.

I was a little scared when you said art school I'm so glad you found another one. Where are you going by the way?
xrninja
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). i'm pretty nervous, but i'm excited. biggrin.gif

Ahh, this thread is back again.

Currently rethinking about the Philosophy minor. biggrin.gif Perhaps I should go for a Psychology minor instead. arche's going to kill me now.

Get ready for some culture shock smile.gif

@Quis: Psychology is just pragmatic philosophy of mind. Philosophy covers every subject, so you can't go wrong in the arts biggrin.gif

while arche may kill me for this as well, i will tell you that a philo minor/degree is pretty much completely useless. the psych minor however will help you in just about any field, and especially as a teacher; which i remember you said you wanted to be.

That's true, but for things like Philosophy, I'd rather study "every subject" on my own time and not be graded for it. smile.gif Takes the fun out of the exploration of the topics.

Yes, that is why I plan to make that transition (because whatever I learn in psychology will certainly come in handy). Although, the bit about a Philosophy degree being useless contradicts what arche said about it being useful. laugh.gif

I will be set for life! I am thinking of Architecture also, but so many people do that.

You're just going to be a psych minor clone then. How unoriginal sad.gif

Philosophy only helps you in real life if you're smart enough to transfer the skills. Philosophy is the basis for all this talk about communication theory, speaker/listener issues, culture influence, pedegogical theory, computer science, etc... But it takes work to extract and apply the more abstract concepts brought out in formal and technical philosophy to every day issues.

Boo to you! The world needs more thinkers who can critically assess their culture! Then again, I'm not a good poster child for philosophy as I'm a major social outcast/geek laugh.gif For me, all the "real" subjects were too easy, but I found philosophy actually challenging.

::Edit:: I don't think psychology is as practical as you think. Counseling is, but psychology is more scientific in the undergrad level and quite removed. Perhaps I haven't seen a curriculum in a while, but I learned more by doing role plays with counseling classes in grad school than the psych majors I knew.

My knowledge and ability of such philosophical thinking is still in its developmental stages, I believe. It will be a while before I can begin to really apply what I know and have yet to know.

Part of the appeal is the challenge. I assure you that I will likely continue to engage in philosophical thinking whether you like it or not. laugh.gif

I have yet to take part in the curriculum. I will let you know if it is any different now than it was then. smile.gif

I'm just glad you respect it's value.

Hey, I didn't know it would be valuable when I took it, but in the real world, I found myself able to transfer a lot of what I learned to real life. It was amazing when I could quickly acclimate to those with business backgrounds and then contribute. Perhaps I'm just naturally gifted at faking it and incredibly capable individual laugh.gif (I doubt it tongue.gif).

It's also a great party trick - proving God's existence from an Egg McMuffin is always a great ice breaker laugh.gif

Have you actually used it at a party? If so, what were the reactions? biggrin.gif

Speaking of engineers, I find them to be yet another Asian stereotype. biggrin.gif Everyone in the school expected me to go into engineering, until word got around that I dropped Calculus (I thought it was a bit of a waste of time). And while we're also on the subject of careers, according to some test I took, I am supposedly best suited for a job in the business world. huh.gif

When I was in grad school, I remember a flyer going out with a list of things to help cross-cultural communication between students. For the most part, foreign students weren't used to the "New England" way. I don't remember everything there and I doubt they'd all apply much to you as you're from California and not Korea tongue.gif

One big thing about New Englanders is that we're cold unwelcoming assholes. Don't expect to ever strike up a conversation too often with anyone who's native to Southern New England laugh.gif

Now about this egg McMuffin thing. You have to share daddy-o.
