And I'm loving how Greed is there in the corner. This makes two covers he's been on.

Two for Bradly, two for Greed, Two for Envy, and one for Gluttony and Lust.

Wonder who'll be on the outer spine?

I'd say Father or Envy.


I dare not hope Greed.

My guess is Ranfan will be on the spine of volume 14. It will fit with what happened with Ling besides she is the only main Xing character who still needs to appear.

I'd wager Envy, as Father and Greed might be a tad too spoilerish. Besides, it's been awhile since the last Homunculus cover, and at this time Wrath and Envy seem to be the two big contenders. If Greed is there, however, I'd guess it would be in his Ultimate Shield form.

It makes sense, in an odd way, that a Homuculi would be next. I mean, there's seven of them, and Vol. 7 had one of them, so it makes sense that a multiple of seven...

I shouldn't think RanFan should make the spine. I mean, she's a well developed and arguable important character, but not as important as many others who could make the list.

And as long as we're on the subject, I've got a feeling Kimbley will grace the Ishbal flashback spine (Yes, I'm thinking too far ahead, I know, but I've just got this...idea that that would work out.)

Yeah, makes sense... But then again, that Havoc on Vol. 13 really did ruin all prediction systems... U so who knows.

Yeah, I know. Would have made much more sense to have Envy their. That said, I'm being led more and more to think that Ran Fan just may be on the spine of No. 14, despite what I'd prefer.

Another reason I think it will be Ranfan is because since volume 10 the Xing characters have been on the spine of every other volume. Of course I know it's not a very accurate way to show who will be on the spine.

Volume 14- Ran Fan Maybe

Well, I hope that patter proves wrong. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with Ran Fan...I just think there are more deserving canidates for the spine. Of course, what with Havoc, odds are it will be Ran Fan...

I really don't know how it is decided who goes on the spine. Actually it is interesting that no homunculus besides Bradley has appeared on the spine. And then when you think about it, Bradley actually plays a dual role since he is also the Fuhrer (of course in the volume that he is on the spine is when he was revealed to be Wrath).

I think there is going to be about 20 volumes, every character won't even have a chance to appear on the spine at this point even ones that we feel are deserving.

I think that the spines are reserved for the most important characters. Edward, Alphonse, Roy, and Scar are all givens, for example, as is Winry, Izumi, and Ling. That said, I'd interpret Bradley's appearance on the spine as a signal that he is one of the central antagonists, who will be focused on the most, and so far I've got to say, personal fandom and biases aside, that Bradley is the most well developed of all the antagonists, in terms of depth, personality, and general characterization.

That said, I think we can expect that all major players will eventually gain their own spines, although perhaps not in the order we expected. Still, I suspect Envy and Father will each get one, maybe Greed and Kimbley.

Well if that's the case then I also think Ran Fan is a major player and no matter what there are more major players than there are spines left.

Of course if it's not Ran Fan than my next guess is Envy (although Envy did make the front cover).

and I am just wondering why vol 24 is available for download on Share already... I guess it's fake and I shall cancel the download then @___@

Despite Ishval ending at 61 as Sensenic mentioned earlier I still think that volume 14 will contain chapters 54-58 (5 chapters) and volume 15 will contain chapters 59-62. If you look at volume 5 which had 5 chapters and volume 6 which was the flashback chapter, volume 6 still had 1 chapter that was not flashback, I think the same will happen with volume 15. It makes sense with the smaller chapters in volume 14. Unless there will be something extra at the end of volume 14 (like a gaiden) which I also would not mind.

hmm... yeah, makes sense. Well, we shall see indeed.

And I want another gaiden too, it's about time! \( `A´)/
Come to think of it, if 14 and 15 are to repeat 5 and 6's structure, then the gaiden will come will number 16 (= 7, Fight on, Second Lieutenant), no?

I'm kind of sad that Viz didn't do the whole color thing with the translated books. I probably shouldn't get started on that though. *has ranted about this on many occassions*

Honestly, I think Envy is the best bet for the spine, as much as I hate him.

arakawa's covers (and all her other art) are just so beautiful, it brings tears to my eyes!!!!!!! ahhh

by the way, i like the japanese covers better than us covers. i think the black backgroundness is cool, but the us covers are still lovely =]

Arakawa sensei never fails to out-do herself with her artwork. I love the cover art for tankoubon fourteen and really wish that they would maintain the character-art on the spine in the European additions as well as the omake draw on the cover of the book. I would really love to see Ran-Fan on the cover of this Tankoubon and hope that she plays a larger role in the latter chapters.

May be awhile if they fit her with automail.

Still no word on who is on the spine or how many chapters there are.

Edit: Father is on the Spine and the chapters are 54-57. So I was wrong about everything for this volume. :Though the Omakes are extra long in this volume so that is what makes up for the shorter chapters.

But I am predicting Kimbley on the spine for volume 15. Although I suppose Scar's brother could also be a possibility but I am leaning towards Kimbley.

Ah, this ruins my little system.

The following may seem a tad off topic, but I don't want to keep making threads about it.

On a more positive note, the FMA showcases ruled the Comic Con today. Square Enix had an entire section of their floorspace devoted to the Manga, "No photography or film allowed." A glass case revealed all thirteen released Tankoubons, in all their splender (Japanese covers > American covers ), and an long wall was decked with hand-drawn and colored pieces by Hiromu Arakawa, and some experts from a later chapter that won't see U.S. shores for quite some time (Envy shows up to calm Gluttony with Ed, Al, and Ling).

Oh, and Viz had Volume 9 for sale as a special bonus to all who came (Everyone else will have to wait till September it seems), but I came too late; they ran out of copies.

Oh so awesome. I really wish I got to see that. And I am so glad the manga is being showcased like that in the states. That's wonderful.



Ah volume 9. I am hoping they will sell it early at Otakon. I am also considering getting all the Japanese volumes I don't have there (1-7) just for collection sake.

The convention sounded great Nepharski. I wish that I could have seen Arakawa's sketches on display. I'm really glad that they had a show-case devoted to the manga because the anime gets so much hype. Hopefully this will introduce more fans to this great work. (Paca thanks for the translation and thanks for the sketches Kirara)

A couple of things that, I think, haven't been mentioned about it:

- Inner spine: once again there's no one going up to the clouds, for the 3rd time in a row

- And, more important, Chapter 55's title: Futari no Gouyoku = The two Greeds

Another thing I think it hasn't been said yet, although I cannot post it since I haven't scanner is the illustration that comes in the first page (you know, the one with the tankoubon number, that takes only half a page)... It is the Climax of Mei chan's imagination! With Al horrified at the sight of "that" Ed behind her.
