Water Achemist
A/N: As the sub-title says, there's major end of series spoilers. Now you can't say I didn't warn you. In fact, I warned you twice. And please forgive me for any spelling, or grammatical errors, snd please tell me if I've gotten wrong. Ok, I'll stop babbling now, and let you get onto the actual story.

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Fullmetal Alchemist. ...If I did, who knows how screwed up this series would get?

Chapter One. Letters

Winry sat outside on the front steps. It was early morning, and cold. She didn't mind it though, in fact, it was sort of refreshing. So she sat there, waiting, excited. 'He's coming back home today! I just know he is, he promised! I'm so excited!' She smiled. Den, who had come outside with her, barked happily, and put his head on her lap, sensing her mood.
"Yes Den, Ed and Al are coming back home today. And they're staying for my birthday! Isn't that great, Den?" She was extremely boisterous, and she wore a huge grin on her face. In her lap she had a letter. She had read it so many times she had it memorized, but she re-read it again quickly, just to make sure she hadn't misread it.

Dear Winry,
As it's almost your birthday and all, me and Al thought it'd be nice to come and see you. We'll come the the week of your birthday, and stay till the end of it.

Ed and Al.

P.S.

Oh, and if you call me short, or a bean, or ANYTHING like that while I'm there...well, don't enjoy yourself TOO much.
See ya soon!

A couple minutes later, Pinako walked outside.

"Winry...Why're you up so early? You normally sleep pretty late when you're not working on automail." She looked surprised. She had seen the letter on her lap, and waited to see if that was the reason, or if the girl had finally decided waking up early was a good thing. She seriously doubted that the latter was the case, but you never knew with that girl...

Winry looked over, and her smile got even bigger. "He's coming today! He promised he'd stay all week because of my birthday!"

Pinako frowned. "Winry, I doubt he's coming this early. Come in, at least for a little while, and eat breakfast."

"I guess you're right." She followed Pinako inside, and made herself and Pinako something to eat.

A couple hours later, Winry heard Den barking. "I'll go get it! It's probably Ed!" As she walked to the door, she noticed something. Den's bark was more of a growl, than a happy 'Ed's back' bark. She opened the door, and instead of seeing Ed, and Al, she saw Riza Hawkeye.

"Hello, Riza! Did you, by any chance, see Ed and Al, on your way here? They said that they'd come and stay for the week because of my birthday."

The only response she got, was a frown, the words "I'm sorry, Winry," and a letter.

Please R&R. I'll only update if I get reviews. Even if they just tell me how crappy this story is, then at least I'll know that.

Hey this sounds pretty good. I enjoy the descriptive imagery. You really painted a vibrant picture in my mind. I would really like to see you develop a story out of this. There is definite potential here. You make me want to know what's going to happen next. Though this is only the first chapter, you should make the next ones longer. Great work! biggrin.gif

Nice cliffhanger there. Makes me want to find out what happens next.

Chapter Two. Al the Present
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Wha-? Why are you sorry?” Winry asked, confused. “And where is Ed, and Al?’

Riza shook her head sadly, and said, softly. “Winry, I’m sorry. I really am. Just... read the letter.”

Cautiously, as if the letter were containing some deadly illness or something, she opened it.

Dear Miss Winry Rockbell,
I’m very sorry to be the one to inform you that the Fullmetal Alchemist Edward Elric has disappeared. Al has recently appeared in my office, as a ten-year-old boy, with what seems like no memory what so ever of the incident. He has no clue how he got here, but… As I said earlier, he is a ten year old boy. In body and mind. He remembers going to sleep, and waking up, like the normal routine occurrence. We have assured him that he has come to visit, and his brother has gone on a trip, and he might not be back for some time. He has requested for you, and Pinako Rockbell often, so I will be sending him to you with Miss Hawkeye.

“N-n-no! Th-this ISN’T happening! He’s lying! He’s the b*stard that killed my parents; he’s lying about this! HE IS!” She sunk to the floor, her head in her hands, crying. “Isn’t he, Riza? Please tell me…*hic* that he... is…”

Riza sadly shook her head. “Winry, it’s the truth. We’re doing our best to locate Ed, but we can’t find him. I’m sorry, Winry. You said it’s your birthday tomorrow? Al’s the best present we can give you. I’m sorry.”

Winry looked up at Riza, her face all splotchy. “I want *hic*... I want Al. Can you *hic* bring him here? For *hic* tomorrow? For my *hic* birthday? Please?”

The trace of a smile appeared on Riza’s face. “Well, if you don’t mind…You can have him now. I brought him with me. If you don't mind an early present, that it.”

A/N: again, no reviews= no update. Also, constructive criticism is welcome. I don't care if you tell me it sucks; just give me a reasonable explanation.

awwww... poor Win. waiting for Ed, but he's like in some other dimension. wah! sad.gif

update.

Don't you think it'd be more dramatic if Roy actually came and told Winry, because when it's with Ed and Al he tends to do things in person. It's just for the drama, if you think it's dumb you can bypass that idea.

A/N: What an interesting suggestion... Actually I already wrote most of this, so I don't really want to change anything too major, so....

Chapter Three. Tell Me What’s Happening

Winry smiled, still sad, but this at lessened the pain a bit. “Th-thank you, Riza.” She hugged the older woman, grateful.

Riza hesitated a moment, then smiled, hugging her back. “I’m going to go get him now.” She walked away, going to bring Al.

Pinako walked up to Winry, a frown on her face. “Winry, what’s wrong? I can tell you're upset.” Winry handed her the letter. She read it, her eyes widening. “Oh…. I…. He’s gone?”

“Yes.” That’s all Winry would said... All Winry could say.

A couple hours later, at dinner time, Rose and her son, Pinako, Winry, and Al all sat at the table, eating. Al got up, leaving his food only half-eaten.

“I’m done. May I go home now?”

Everyone looked at each other, quietly. Well, except for Rose's son, as he was a two year old, and had no clue what was going on. He just smiled, and banged his fists into his food, happily.

Winry stood up. “Al, I have to show you something…. Come upstairs with me. He followed, confused why they wouldn’t let him near his house.

“Al…. tell me what you remember.”

“I remember…. Mother dying….And Brother saying something about bringing her back, and going to train with Sensei so we could…. and then going to sleep… And waking up in that weird place.”

“I see. Anything else? Any, I don’t know, strange dreams or anything?”

He shook his head, then thought for a moment. “Wait…. Now that you mention it, I did have this really weird dream. Please don’t laugh.”

“I won’t, Al. I swear I won’t.”

“Well…Brother and I were standing in front of a transmutation circle. We put lots of stuff in the middle.

“Like what?”

“Everything...everything that makes up an adult human body. But we had nothing for her soul. So Brother cut both of our fingers with a knife. We let a drop of blood from each of us fall onto the pile. Then we activated it. I seemed like everything was going fine, until….” He stopped.

“What Al? What happened?”

“There was a bright light. Something grabbed me. It started pulling at me, and wouldn’t let go. I heard him call my name, and then I woke up in that place.”

“Ah.”

“Winry, tell me what’s wrong. Tell me what’s happening. What’s happened. Because I know something is wrong. You’re taller, Pinako’s older, there’s this weird lady and her son here. Please explain to me.”
