Do you suppose Funimation will buy the rights to show the movie in America? Let's hope so, otherwise there will be a lot of pissed off Americans wanting to know what happens next...

I hope so too. Though I'm sure it'll be fansubbed first, so I can get my hands on it as soon as it comes out

....fansubbers
do their magic on anime movies too, right? O.O

I hope a more reliable company pick up the movie, since I believe they will do a better job. Personally I'd like to see ADV do it, since they've done some really good anime series' well recently, such as Noir, which is great.

I'd like to think that Funimation can license the movie that way they can keep the same voice actors for consistency. I don't really like when different companies license a movie, series, or OVA for the same anime property. Funimation licensed the Blue Gender Gender movie along with the series so hopefully it will be the same for Full metal alchemist.
What I want to know is the release date for the movie in Japan. Anyone know that?
I assume it would take a lot longer to fansub the movie since fansubbers would have to wait until it leaves theatres right?
For Rolf, here's some anime ADV has done/is doing:
Rahxephon
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Panic Fumoffu
Noir
Chrono Crusade
Samurai X Reflections and Samurai X Trust and Betrayal and Samurai X The Movie
Get Backers

Actually, I was the one who forgot. Thanks for the list, though!
D'oh! I haven't heard/seen any of these in their dubbed version! ....except for
Samurai X The Movie.

;; Um, that one wasn't all that good IMHO. Sorry.

Um... I read this question on the 'Ask Funimation Thread' on the Adult Swim boards.. if I remember correctly they will eventually release the FMA movie in America.. although they didn't necessarily say whether they got the rights to it. O.o

That could mean that Funimation has already licensed the rights to release the movie in the US.

Huh, guess that means we may be looking at getting fansubs through "creative means" for the movie as well. Shucks. Oh well, at least that means we'll be seeing it.

When a Japanese anime is going from TV to movie does that mean it goes to the actual theatres? If so is the fansub going to be a digital camcorder moviez like you download on Kazaa. Or do the Japanese have them on television/DVD right away?
That depends... for Naruto it went to theaters.. but for One Piece I believe it was a TV movie.
Although I'm GUESSING it'll be a theater release.. based on popularity and all the hype that's going on right now.

I thought animated movies were the same as normal movies here. It'll be shown in theatres and after a [looong] while they'll eventually be available on DVD...
Apparently not. I think I heard that the 2nd highest opening for an anime movie in Japan was a Pokemon movie (under Naruto, of course). You'd think that if other anime movies were released in Japan, they'd at least top Pokemon

Pokémon movies actually aren't TOO bad. I like the soundtracks (the orchestral tracks, at any rate). I watch them because it's hilarious to bash the characters every other line.

My brother loves watching it with me because I do that.

According to other films, like saint seiya overture or Ghost in the shell, innocence, is possible that the DVD version comes out about 6 months later

Well, 6 months is better than I expected.

If it's a real hit with the audience it'll only take longer for the movie to get on DVD, right?

Oct 5 2004, 03:10 AM
If it doesn't open in the US official, most likely good fansubs will only come out when the DVD in Japan is released. Well... or you could settle for amatuer video-cammed movies where you can see people's heads in front of the screen.. :X I honestly don't know how good the quality of the fansubs will be, but I"m guessing only the good ones will come out after Japanese get their hands on the DVD.
P.S:
Would I get stoned if I posted the summary of the movie in here after watching it... ¬_¬;

Rumors were flying like mad over on a FMA movie on FF.net. Supposedly, FUNimation changed it's mind after the movie won a couple of animation festival awards and "unofficially" (just to drive us crazy) said the movie would get a theatrical release. With the DVD release pushed back to spring of 2007. One poster said she saw Vic at an anime con in Hawaii, and he repeated the "theatrical release first" claim. No word yet from the official website of FUNimation Films, and we probably won't get anything definate until September.

That would suck because I highly doubt that the movie would make it to the theater in my town, the never show the smaller release anime movies and stuff, like howls movie castle never came here! gah I hate how stuck up this town is about stuff like that. If it isn't some movie with long lines, or 80 popular actors in it it wont come at all or if it does come it wont last longer than a few days cause it isn't making "enough" money.
