W*nker is also fun to say. All swear words are infact.
Means very little in America land, thats why it was so easily used in The Simpsons (edited out over here I might add)
And I'm afraid
popo makes a point.....don't correct/argue with us when it comes to using English!
I think there are only about 2 words that are still considered taboo, otherwise you will usually hear most on television or being used in the street.

C*nt can be used on TV. All words can if it's a documentry about swearing or integral to the plot. It's now very bad to use N*gnog, N*gger or Gollyw*g but in atleast one sitsom in the 70's it was fine. The 'com was "Love thy Neighbour" which was about a black guy moving into a very white street and how his neighbour treated him.
Fimls that use C*nt should be 18+ but there are exceptions, "Shawn of the dead" being of the 5 15+ rated films to use the word.
The "worst" words to use are the ones that involve religon e.g Jesus-f*cking-Christ. this'll get tons of complaints.

Aww Greeny, how sweetly innocent, but popo got it right.
I remember hearing about that show but of course then it was accepted (to some degree). See I knew Gollyw*g just as the doll and didn't assosiate it with racism at all. That was when I was younger, now its nothing but an attack on black people (apparently, I still think its just a doll)

indeed but some words have pure malice and hatred behind them when used. or at least a history of such usage. Think of any racial slur or slurs people use against gay people. It's a lot worse than just calling them dumb, stupid or idiot. It crosses a line that society has set.

Thievesvinegar, it was German, but the actual entymology is from the archaic 'fuch' which is 'to breed animals.' That's why it's so vulgar- it's comparing sexual intercourse between loving humans to intercourse solely for reproductive and pleasuable purpouses.

It's pretty ironic; a lot of people don't want children to swear, and yet some of them swear themselves... What a great example some people set...
[/sarcasm]
My family and some relatives got together some time ago, and we adults were having a great time chatting while the kids (ranging from 3 to 13) played with water guns. Suddenly, one of the kids came in and went to his mother and told her that the "G*d-d*mned" water gun was broken... (When he said that, I about fell out of my seat... I don't approve of the phrase at all - neither from adults nor children) That little kid is about five years old... The next thing I knew, his mother spanked him and told him not to use that phrase (even though she had used the same phrase over and over again during the get-together... among other vulgar language...).
I'm sorry if I come on strong, but the only way we can prevent kids from swearing is setting a good example and not swearing ourselves.
Popogeejo
Jun 3 2006, 04:18 AM
Thats like saying to stop kids ever drinking then adults should stop and thats not going to happen.
It's not like the kid said anything that bad anyway. you can hear that language way before the Watershed (9pm) in the UK. Whats the problem with a child impling that God has that water gun to eternal damnation.
Also why was the Kid spanked? Is it swearing bad, casual violence ok? I don't mind spannking but it seems abit overboard for a little bit of impropper language.

I swear a lot. At least very day a few times. I don't really know why, it just helps me to lose my anger. It's better than behave asocially to lose your anger (like destroying a random window or something), or beat people up. That happens too. The words I use the most are: f*ck, c*nt, d*ck, sh*t, g*dd*mmit and d*mn. I don't think it's such a big deal. All my friends and classmates, and my mother and sisters swear. I have limits though. I never sweat in front of children, and don't use any racistic words.
Yesterday I saw something written on the pavement. According to the handwriting, it must've been smaller kids. I read words like 'f*ck' and 'c*nt'. That kinda shocked me. Smaller children aren't supposed to know such words. And if parents don't swear, I think they'll just hear it in their school or on the street. It's not easy to prevent them form hearing it.

QUOTE
Please don't anyone claim that "they're just words", because that's bullsh*t. Words have meanings. Words are extremely powerful things. I have a question. Most swears out there have a usage in which it is not considered bad language:
"You shall not covet your neighbors wife, or his male or female slave,or his ox or his ass, or anything that is your neighbors." (Shmot: 20: 14) Do I need to * the a out? I was quoting a bible verse, but if I was talking about somebody and using the same word it would be considered bad language, improper, and worth at least a stern talking-to, at least if I said it in from of my teachers.
My family owns a b*tch. She sits around the house and sleeps basically all day, and the most offensive thing she does is attempt to stick her nose onto the table. Why should the same word refering to a human be so terrible? You can call someone a dog, and no one will repremind you for your language.
So why does everyone make a big fuss over swearing, when most of the words have socially acceptable uses as well?
Oh and should I censor my language above?

Actually its OK to swear, as long as you don't do it in front of kids.. My brother has been using "f*ck" ever sonce he played online games with older teens, he was 10.. Darn, he called me b!tch for telling him "I'm using the computer now, time's up.." while he was playing his stupid online game

+ Grr..
People in my school swear a lot.. They use "f*ck" more often than other words.. Even my friends and I got the desease! Yeah, we rarely swore before.. but now

Ha, you admit it, you pronounce it wrong. So that would mean 'ass' is actually only swearing in America, just like 'Wan***' is only a bad word UK-wise.
Notice how some of the more casual swear words mean the worst things? Like calling someone a bugger is suggesting they like bum love. And in America you call people jerks, but to jerk off is to 'pleasure oneself' (please correct me if I'm wrong).
