Obviously roy and riza!!! They have known one another for more than 15 years, i guess. well... ed and winry might be a little too young and roy and riza are old enough!

I had to go with EdxWin because it's such a cute pairing. Even though Royai is a bit mor sophisticated... meh, it's cuter.

Then perhaps people should actually try finding out why it is "RoyAi" instead of "RoyEye" then? Most people just called it "Royai" because... everyone else is calling it Royai. It probably all started with one person thinking "Roiai? Isn't that spelled wrong? Shouldn't it be RoYai instead? Hmm why Ai? Ah! Must be because Ai means Love in Japanese!!"

Roy in Katakana is Roi.
Hawkeye in katakana is Hookuai.
That's why it's "Roiai".

(Ai doesn't mean Eye in Japanese by the way. It's just the pronouncation in katanaka for non-Japanese names.)

While for EdWin fans, they should know that 503 = EdWin (Reason why, I can't quite remember, but I think it had to do with a well-known Japanese commercial that contained both "Edwin" and "503" in it... I only remember that it is a commercial for jeans.) You can actually spot that Ed's (or Winry's?) room number in the hotel they were staying at in Central around chapter 40 - 45-ish... the room number was 503.

Oh, forgot to mention... I picked Roiai, and I don't like EdWin.

Oh, interesting... i assumed that Royai was roy+ai because I'm a chinese student and noticed the 'ai=love,' and assumed that it had nothing to do with Hawkeye because I so often see 'Royai' assigned to any pairing including Roy. Thanks for teh clarification! I'll still continue to refer to it as 'Royai' though, just so that people know what i'm talking about a bit better...

But yes I understand what you meant... some of my friends know that it should be Roiai (in fact, even the person that explained it to me) still call it Royai because the general population doesn't know that "Roiai" is indeed the right spelling. x____x

i love the edwin pairing too, don't get me wrong but i DEFENTALLY have high hopes for royai

'Shonen' is the japanese for 'male' or 'boy' and 'ai' is the shared japanese and chinese for 'love,' so it's literally 'boy love.' It's the same for shoujo-ai, but meaning 'girl love.' Hentai figuratively translates as 'pervert.'

As for yaoi and yuri, I have no idea. I like to think that 'yaoi' is onomonopaeic, though

Yaoi literally stands for yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi, which means no climax, no punch line, and no meaning. However, when most people use "Shounen-ai" and "Yaoi" to classify things... it's usually like this...

Shounen-ai = there is real love feelings involved in the relationship, and of course, it's Male x Male and usually it doesn't get too graphic.

Yaoi = Real love feelings don't necessarily exist between the people in the relationship, and whatever is written (drawn...etc) is much more graphic at the Shounen-ai level.

so pretty much, one is non-sexual, and the other is sexual. Hope that answered your concern.

RoyxRiza. Their relationship is a different sort than that of Ed and Winry's--more mature, more mutually understanding...they're like a jigsaw puzzle that just fits. They complement each other perfectly.

[spoiler]Riza's father was an alchemist, and he taught Roy alchemy. When Roy's sensei--Riza's dad--died, he told Roy to take care of Riza.[/spoiler]

While I think that RoyxEd is cool, I think it's better left to fanfiction than anything - I mean, it's an awesome concept - think about it! But still, as far as "reality" goes, definitely Royai! (Roiai, whatever...) I totally, completely, and absolutely agree with mei_tenshi! You go!!! VIVA LA ROYAI!!!!!! (Roiai, whatever, I'm in automatic, so I type it with a 'y' instead of an 'i' - but I know that one's more proper than the other, fear not...)

I just don't like the idea period, mostly because it seems sort of wrong to me, two, because they could never get along in that way, and three... Royai is amazing. Well, i also agree with mei_tenshi on the definition. Roiai (hey i did it right!) is so much more deep, so complext and so beautiful, the relationship goes wa below the suurface, and the two of them have been through so much together, that they've kind of molded into one another's existance. Especially in tha manga, you can see the extent for which they care for one another and are always by eachother's side, but of course there's still roiai goodness in the anime too.

Edwin seems to be more of the childtype-cute romance thing, and that's nice, but i guess ROyai is more mature actual relationship.

I'm not being mean to them because I'm simply stating a fact, and plus, using 'gay' as an insult is not a proof of intelligence. And first, I wonder what this thread is doing there, when there are so many other threads to chose your favorite pairing(s), and like 3-4 threads dedicated to EdWin and Royai already. To me, this thread is like these 'this character VS this one' (which are forbidden, btw) so why is it there? Especially when the result is so obvious? I don't think some people would be that pleased if I created a 'RoyEd VS Elricest' thread...Anyway, I doubt it'll be closed, so I rest my case.

I like the way EdxWin is developing in manga in recent chapters!!

Indeed! There is definitely more potential for both pairings--which is one of the reasons why I love the manga.

As I mentioned before, RoyxRiza's my favorite, but I can see how EdxWinry is appealing, too. From when FMA starts (in both the anime and the manga), we see their relationship as the brother-sister kind, but as both mature and the story progresses, we can see how they've changed and (maybe?) come to love each other as more than siblings. It's as if we're there with them, watching them bumble along, getting frustrated beside Winry at Ed's thick-headedness, feeling Ed's pain at having to choose between Winry and duty. We experience their ups and downs right from the start, and we come to know them as the best friends next door who are meant to be together.

BUT REALLY... since this is a REPETITIVE topic, I think this topic should be LOCKED, instead of having a continued discussion. (I am pretty sure most of what will be mention here ARE mentioned in some older Roiai and EdxWinry threads.

Frankly, I think RoyxRiza/EdxWin is a big enough topic/debate to warrant its own thread, but if there are protests to ths, someone can report it in the Grammar Police and have a mod decide.

edit: I've looked through all the Character threads, and you're right--there are a lot of Edx? and Royx? topics, as well as a couple of general pairings. When it comes to a back-to-back comparison of RoyxRiza and EdxWinry, there are none (unless I've missed some, which is very possible). By the way, I also found several (open) threads whose redundancy is more blatant than this one. =P

There are several 'This character VS This character' threads too that have not been closed. I think it is time to report them, along with this one, plus, like I already said, the result of this poll is pretty obvious (and if you want more Royai fangirlism, just go make a site, IMO...) and outside this forum, RoyEd seems waaaay more popular than EdWin.

I have the feeling that if this thread stays open, lots of 'This pairing VS This pairing' threads are gonna pop out of nowhere, and the processus would be no different than 'This character VS This character' (which, I recall, are forbidden). Plus, to me, this thread just looks like a Royai and an EdWin one merged together, or even like the 'What is your favorite FMA pairing?' one, except that a lot of pairings have been taken out, but the yaoi bashing still followed us here...

So I don't know if Bacon/Void mods would accept to close this thread, but I'm gonna report it, just in case.
