Introduction
Before I was trapped in the darkness, everything was white
And before the white...everything was stained with red by the blood... ?
?I can't breathe....can't shut my eyes or mouth...
?I can feel that hot liquid on my face...??
The blade flashed before my eyes....slicing through his body...?
That's not right! It should've gone through my body...?
?Why...why are the both of you so expressionless??
I thought you wanted to kill me? Why did it have to be him? Answer me!??
No....I must've gotten something wrong...
It's fake! It's just a dream!
Let me awaken...why won't you say anything??
Tell me....it's just a dream...??
Stained with red...he’s motionless...
His eyes aren't even shut....say something...??
His eyes are still open...his blood is still warm...
Why has he become cold and stiff...not even moving...??
Everything before me has turned white...?
I want to scream....but can't...
Let me leave this place...leave this nightmare...?
Let me be free of this...??
If he is really dead...?
Then please let me die as well....

Chapter 1 – Burning Questions
It had only been a few weeks ago since Edward had died and Pride was born. Pride was still struggling with his identity. He seemed to not remember anything that had happened in his previous life, but it couldn’t be helped he was reminded of it every single day. Everyone in town still talked about the famous Fullmetal Alchemist and his brother, who suddenly seemed to have disappeared and still hadn’t come back. In one way, he wanted to know about this Edward Elric. Why had he been so famous? How had he died? On the other hand, it didn’t matter anymore. He was Pride. Edward Elric had become history.
Envy was the one who taught him everything about Homunculi. How they were born, their weaknesses, but basically he taught him how to fight. Hohenheim taught him how to use his special ability: alchemy. Pride didn’t remember anything about his previous life, so he also didn’t remember how to perform it. But he picked it up very easily. He improved his skills by the day, and did whatever Envy wanted him to do. If Envy wanted him to kill a man, Pride killed that man. He obeyed his older brother and trusted him. Envy enjoyed it to see Pride killing people. His expressionless eyes when he was doing it. The unforgiveness in his way of torturing them. While Edward had always found it very hard to have to kill someone, even if it was a Homunculus. Pride didn't act like Edward in any way.
Pride often went to town, to observe humans and their weaknesses. Envy told him that would be good for him, and it will help him to do his name justice. To become proud of what he was. But when he was in town, there was no one who would speak to him, or treat him as an equal. They always seemed to look at him as if he was a piece of garbage. Why did humans hate homunculus, while they were a result from their failed human transmutations?
Sometimes, Pride vaguely remembered something of his previous life, when he had been Edward. When a train passed by, images of him and a huge armour looking out of the window in a train floated through his head. Who was this figure sitting next to him?
When he walked by the graveyard, horrible images of a dead woman, failing to be revived appeared in front of his eyes. Had she also become a Homunculus?
All these vague memories drove him insane. Were they real, or was it his mind playing tricks? When he asked Hohenheim or Envy about it, they never really answered him. Envy only gave him vague hints, which only made Pride more uncomfortable with it.
He wanted to get rid of those memories. He didn’t know how, or why, but it hurt him. It hurt him from the inside every time when he had those memories.
Most of the time, Pride wandered around by himself, wondering about all of the things he didn’t know yet. What was so different between a Homunculus and a human, except the fact that Homunculi had no soul? How could Homunculi not have a soul, when the stones they fed themselves with contained nothing else than human bodies and souls? He wanted to know the answers to his questions. He couldn’t just accept that he had no soul.
Hohenheim had ordered Envy to follow Pride whenever he took off on his own. He wanted to know what he was doing, and where he was going. And no matter what happened, they had to keep him away from people who had cared about Edward Elric. At least for now. ‘It will be too confusing for him,’ Hohenheim had said, ‘and if he discovers we’re hiding things from him, he might step to their side. And we don’t want that to happen now, do we?’ And Envy agreed.
They had forbidden Pride to go to the Central Headquarters. ‘That’s the place where the State Alchemists stay. They are even able to kill Homunculi, so stay out of their sight.’ That’s what they told Pride, and nothing more. They knew the military probably wouldn’t hurt Pride, because Edward had been one of the best Alchemists within the military. They just didn’t want Pride to remember his old friends, friends he had known when he had been Edward. They feared that if he’d discover that they caused the reason why Edward had committed suicide, that they were the reason why he didn’t have a soul, he would abandon them forever.
