Shell, if you found that at all amusing, you should get serious psychological help.

Kittygirl, you're only 11. A precocious eleven, for sure, but still- being young promotes a sort of idealism in people that isn't mimicked in any other age group. You don't really understand the true difficulties of a large and comprehensive problem like child abuse. It's often secret, and the people affected are rarely believed because they're young, or they don't tell anyone because of fear. Popogeejo is simply attempting to argue a point, and although he may not do it politely, it is valid. It's not a comment on your intelligence or your ability to comprehend what he means (personally, i've misinterpreted a lot of his points as well.) It's best to calm down, and, if absolutely necessary, continue this discussion, but this time let's do it rationally.

Also, don't feel annoyed that you missed it. It's quite easy to be lied to online, and I believed it too for a moment. I'd even started writing a sob response like yours. If Shell hadn't gone for the icing on the cake with the 'five years' thing, i wouldn't have ever gone back for a closer read to try to understand why that was. I'm glad i did, though... it's horrible that someone would think of that, much less present it as fact.

Anyway, kittygirl, no one's trying to fight or flame you, that'll probably only happen to Shell.

You might also not want to start and try to really control threads that are this hard to deal with and controversial at your age. By the time you've reached 15, 16, or 17, you'll probably have actually had to deal with a person who has been seriously abused in a number of ways. It gives a whole new perspective on the issue.

One last point: Jokes and pointing out irony about serious topics often help to lighten the mood and facilitate discussion. Don't get worked up about them. Lies, on the other hand...

First of all, yes rape is bad anyway you look at, but (if this person did exist) she wouldn't have experienced it... she'd be dead and it would just be a body. I'm not saying it was right to rape her, but she would have 'moved on' already. The fault lies with the father.

There was a girl named **************** who claimed she was abused and raped. I told the school and when they told her they were going to call the police, ******* confessed and got a detention and then missed one recess. We hated each other after that.

Are you saying that lying about serious and upsetting topics like rape and abuse and murder to get attention and sob replies from a forum community is just a normal part of forum discourse? It's not just 'mélange,' it's not just 'a different opinion,' it was an attempt to decieve us! If you're familiar with the way that I post or where I post at all, I find myself quite tolerant of other points of view and I'm willing to argue arguments until they've been beaten to death without flaming at all. However, Shell did not present an argument, it was a lie. If you want to allow pathological lying on the forums, then I suggest that you find a different one.

Oh, kittygirl, please edit out the real name that you used in your post. You can get sued for harrassment for such things. Just take out 'named *** ******' and replace '******' with 'she' or 'the girl.'

It doesn't matter if it was someone else's story, the problem is that the story could not possibly have happened in the United States, where she claims that she lives. I doubt that she's moved from a third world country where this is slightly possible within the last month. I'm a bit surprised that Shell isn't even back to defend herself, though...

Sure, this are some forms of child abuse, but some of the worst are less obvious. When I was a kid, this guy my mom was married to starved me, and I 'd rathor be beaten than to only get to eat the free school lunch and occasional piece of toast on the weekend, as well as being called a b**** at the tender age of ten every day. Sometimes they don't have to beat you to abuse you.

Check your facts then. If this girl is between 3 and 5 then there isn't that much of a prob. If the kid is 14 then there is.

If you starve the kids intentionally, that's considered neglect, I think. Forgetting MANY times may fall under neglect, but I'm not exactly sure, neglect is pretty much the most common abuse type. Er, whut way should I put it...I'm more familiar with physical, emotional and sexual abuse.
