I really like the new Doctor Who series. I like Rose as well. I didn't know her as a pop star which is probably why I like her and have no preconceived notions about her. I grew up on Doctor Who but got tired of it when I went to college. I started watching the new show and it is quite an improvement in my opinion.
I spoiled myself and watched the last episode of the last season on You Tube. It kind of reminded me Of Conquerer if Ed could have said goodbye to Winry. Ok I'll get out of my fantasy world! rolleyes.gif tongue.gif
Tombow
*looking at Chiyo, Popo and other UK fans with envious glance* tongue.gif

Yap, being across the pond, we have to watch it 1 year behind, and the season 2 just stated few weeks ago in the U.S.
It's every Friday on SciFi channel.
If anyone hasn't seen it, check it out!! smile.gif
Chiyo
Torchwood begins soon, Capn Jack taking the lead role. The ads for it look great but I don't have BBC 3 sad.gif . Curse you digital freeview.
Popogeejo
Torchwood is rather pleasing. It's more aimed at adults (use of casual swearing = realism) and a briliant location (ok I may be biased here as it's my home town.)
Remember when Rose revived Captain Jack after the first Major battle with the Daleks? It may have had some intresting effects.
I'm watching the second episode as I type so expect an update soonish.

EDIT
Ok it's certainly aimed at adults.
Death by sex is not a good way to go, especialy when being watched by a pervy night club bouncer.
On a more vital note, Jack's coat is rather nice. I think I have one like that in the back of my closet...

As a rule I'd say for ages 13 and up if your watching alone or with friends and 16 plus if your watching with Mum and Dad...

Could be allot worse, XD

I cant belive I watched these on Sunday and forgot to post. ><
Next ones on Sunday, cant remember time.. I think its 9 or 10..

I wonder how this will go down in the U.S? Mainly because of the Welsh accent. I'm not saying its terrible but some UK accents cannot be understood by those outside the UK. But thank gawd for the BBC, Chi gets to watch it too...just a few days after Popo and Monkey.

Plenty Doctor Who eps were filmed in Cardiff, its based in BBC Wales, its just now 'set' in it too.

And as I stated before some of the swearing seemed needless...children will watch this show as they know its connected to Doctor Who.
The alien you see in the first ep that tears the janitors throat out looked like some campy Buffy cast off...and the blood gushing from his throat was a tad OTT
David Tennant....also known as Barty Crouch Jnr in Harry Potter....does make a good Dr but I just can't stand Rose. I only really think the Brits will know who Billie Piper is, and they will roll their eyes at her as well.

Last nights were-wolf ep was more aimed at kids then anyone. And the reason his Scottish accent was so good is because he is actually Scottish. Still I enjoyed it, and guess most others did too.

David Tennant is soooo gorgeous as well as his Scottish accent, and he's also appeared in Cassanova on Masterpiece Theatre two weeks ago....I just started to cry. He's also smoldering good as a lovelorn cop in Viva Blackpool on BBC America long ago. Praise for him biggrin.gif
Chiyo
But alas, apart from the actor, these shows have nothing to do with Doctor Who. But hey if you start a David Tennant love thread I'll join.

And I have heard there will be no sidekick for a while in the new series....go solo Doc!
Popogeejo
QUOTE

The BBC is trying to draw in the 18-25 market. The swearing wasn't gratuitous and children swear a lot anyway. Little git's.

Subtitles. At least it wasn't a Liverpudlian or Geordie accent..
Chiyo
Haha no those accents ARE subtitled, least I heard 'The Full Monty' was subtitled.

And no the swearing wasn't too bad, but rather than say 'thats a load of cr*p' it was 'thats a load of b****cks'. I watched (part) of it with my 12 year old sister and she will have heard it all before. Thank God you mentioned the smex in it before we saw it Popo...turned it off before it got to that. I can cope with lil sis hearing naughty words but other things are a no-no.

I bet you there will be complaints though, parents saying kids are bound to want to watch it even if it isn't aimed at them.
Popogeejo

Awww, you missed the "He came and went" joke sad.gif

QUOTE

More than likely but thats to be expected.
Terry Wogan said it best when he said : There are people who just watch TV waiting to be offended.
Heck, that advert with the Giant blob of Marmite was taken off ar because only 7 people complained.
Chiyo
Now the man vomiting a dog I understood...but the Marmite? Bet the complainers are 'haters'

Damn missed that joke haha, least I'm back at Uni so I can watch the next one without younger sibling. Weren't they also going to do a Doctor Who spinoff for the youngsters?
Popogeejo
There was one with K9 which was abysmal.

What I want to know is:
Why does Jack have the Doctors hand? Remember Dr.Who lost his hand on the Christmas special, I think that was what the severed hand in the Jar was.
Chiyo
Who saw 'The Runaway Bride?', and when will the U.S get it come to think of it. I loved it, no doubt about that but Catherine Tate still just looked like the characters she plays.

The Sarah Jane Smith adventures start soon, the first one is being shown on New Years Day. Its for kids so I don't expect much.

.....aaaaand Torchwood is about to conclude its first series. Its been a very up and down show with some eps being great but some being really quite dull. And I still believe it may have to be subtitled for the U.S audience.
Animeoldtimer
I wonder if Torchwood will be released in the US. I imagine it will, but I am satisfied with Doctor Who. I am curious to see what Martha will be like. I will miss Rose. Despite having been a pop star, I felt she acted quite well. You'd never catch Brittney Spears doing a bang up job like that!
Chiyo
Martha is proving to be...varied, at times I like and at others she irritates the feck out of me. Since I'm probably oneof the only people here to have seen the episodes with her in yet, I can't say too much, but the term 'unrequited love' comes to mind.

I give it 2 more episodes before to Doctor caves and loves her back (unfortunatly).
Twilightz

That's probably gonna happen. dry.gif

Yeah, Martha can be irritating sometimes, but
I'm kind of glad that Rose left because the relationship between her and the Doctor didn't develop. I still hope that Billie could come back somewhere in the future, but as we now Doctor can't have a lasting relationship.
David Tennant is the best Doctor ever. biggrin.gif
Chiyo
Well I thought I would revive this thread since we are coming up to the last 2 episodes of this series.

Some episodes have been poor, but then there has been some real treasures to make up for it. I look forward greatly to the last remaining episodes mainly because
John Simm is a kick arse Master
Twilightz
The 3rd season has been interesting so far. There's been some cool plot twists including
the new Master. I wonder how they're gonna get the TARDIS back.
Anyways, I have pretty high expectations about the last episodes. They better be good.

I'd like to think that the quality of 'Blink' and the excellent twist in the story at the end of 'Utopia' is a sign that we're up for a good set of concluding episodes. I enjoyed last year's finale, but they seem to have come up with something even better this time around
AKA: The Master. The Master being played by Jacobi and Simm!
. Not to mention we've finally got 10 and Jack in the same place. Can't wait to see how they develop the interaction between these two.

I really like Martha as a companion, but hope that that the comments in 'Utopia mark the end of the constant references to Rose. It's time to let Martha stand up as something other as a constant reminder that she isn't Rose. However, unlikely though it is, I would love to see Martha and Rose meeting, a'la Rose and Sarah Jane in 'School Reunion'. The difference being that they're closer in age, and Martha so obviously views Rose on some level as a rival for the Doctor's affections, whereas with Sarah Jane it was a little different. (But seeing as I can't have my cake and eat it - I'd go for some more character development for Martha).

QUOTE(Astria)

Agreed. I'm getting tired of them talking about Rose in every episode. We know almost nothing about Martha's past and family.

Blink was a great episode, considering that it featured Doctor very little. These kind of episodes can be refreshing and I hope we see them in the future.

BTW, who voted Saxon?
Popogeejo
So far I enjoyed Blink and the one with the huge Traffic jam (I don't really bother learning episode names...). Both very epic in my opinion.

Loved the non-sequitur (I think it was a non-sequitur) in Blink. Why did the Doctor have the Bow and arrow? I'd love it if they had an episode that crossed over that moment that explained it.

All in all new girl seems fine, the episodes have been funky and the cliff hangers painfully suspenseful.
Chiyo
I voted Saxon

I agree about Martha, and I do hope the whole Doctor reffering to Rose all the time ends too. She is going to help save the day one way or another so she can finally prove herself.

Warning: McFly and Sharon Osbourne to appear in next episode (apparently)
joanne45
I've watched Torchwood (on a series opener on Saturday and repeats on Sunday) and I'm crazy for the cast especially Jack (he was on Dr. Who episode)...this saucy series made my day!
Thank you, BBC America biggrin.gif

I can't believe I didn't see this thread before, being a complete Doctor Who geek...

My favourite episode this season has been Blink - I think it must be the scariest one I have seen. It is my second overall favourite as well, apart from the Girl In The Fireplace.

I love John Ssimm as the Master - it's a shame he died . Although not forever, I'm pretty sure he's going to come back with a new face (what about that ring the woman picked up?)

I've seen episode The Girl In The Fireplace (Sophia Myles is awesome)....and I'm despereately see the latest episode where John Simms (of Life From Mars....my fave) as The Master....can't wait!
Chiyo
Can I please remind people not to spoil things, America hasn't had the Doc Who episodes we've had yet so we can't say too much.

Joanne: The Girl in the Fireplace is a good ep, it was filming that episode where David and Sophie met. Best part has to be the Doctor bursting through the mirror on the horse.

I've watched on BBC America and a new episodes on Sci-Fi Channel, Tee-hee, sorry...I'm behaving badly.

Catherine Tate was great in the Christmas Special, but I can't imagine her as the new companion. :/ But I sure hope she's better than Martha and Rose. :P
Triss Hawkeye
It's going to be weird with her - she'd better be a great actor or all we'll see is Lauren -__-
zombie
What are people up to in the series? Becasue from what I can tell people are all over the place.

in South Autralia where up 2 "Last of the Time Lords" then it will stop 4 a few months again.
Triss Hawkeye
Well in Britain where it is released first of course, season 3 of the 'new series' has been finished for quite some time.
Chiyo
Basically, 'Last if the Time Lords' was originally played mid-June time, the Christmas special with Kylie will be out at (le gasp) Christmas, and then the next series, series 4 of the newer Doctor Who, will start probably next April as the past ones have done. We seem to transfer some shows over to Australia way before America, probably as a thanks for Neighbours, (even if we are about 2 months behind Australia)

Guess what is starting next week? The Sarah Jane Smith Adventures (also known as Dr Who for kiddies just as Torchwood is Dr Who for adults....except neither feature the Doctor)

Twlilightz - sadly I can only ever see her as a comedy actress, so serious scenes may not work as well as it has with the others, but then hopefully they won't have 'I love you Doctor' all the way through
zombie
this is just a little bit off topic but yea...
I know that I shouldn’t find this funny but where about to get a few programs “streamed directly from the US”. So that when the US gets 2 see it we also get to see it a few min later.
Chiyo
^ Won't time differences make that a little....unhelpful?

Decided I will watch The Sarah Jane Adventures later, just to see what they're like, Torchwood works well as Jack can pull it together, but Sarah Jane Smith hmm....
zombie
A) I don’t know what part of the US its coming form
B ) I only know what it said in that add
C) Its for shows I don’t see all that much so yea I know next to nothing about it.
But yes that is something I have not thought about and it would course a problem. But all I know about it is what they are saying in that one add and its not a lot of information.

How many spin offs of Doctor who are there?
Chiyo
Just the 2 current spin off's, Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures, though for a while they did try a show with K-9 that flopped. Maybe you could count that short cartoon they did on that kids Dr Who preview program, making it 3.
Triss Hawkeye
I saw the first six episodes of Torchwood but I didn't like it that much. I know it was meant to be an adult program, bu I think they went way over the top with some of the stuff. I liked the 'fairy' episode though, can't remember what it was called.
Chiyo
Its a very old theme the fairies one, many a tale was told of people entering a fairy ring never to leave. Thats probably why it worked so well, playing on an basic fear of loss. There's a book called 'The Stolen Child' you might like if you enjoy that theme.

From what I heard, only for a few episodes, and I hate to say this but prefer Billie to Martha and certainly to Donna....

Twilightz
^ Nice icon. I liked the chemistry between Astrid and Doctor.

Looks like the next season is gonna be a bit darker... o_O I hope they are going to do it well. I still have some doubts about Donna, but I'll be looking forward to see her as the new companion even if it feels a bit strange. I'd love to see a scene between Rose and Donna! Wait a sec... Didn't they say that Martha will also return for a few episodes? Uh... this is gonna be weird.
Chiyo
Yea I saw her in those previews I'm sure, think Rose appears in the series after maybe? When, so they say, we shall have a female Doctor take over from Tennant. Still not happy with Donna, she's just to much of a comic actress to be able to pull it off, and already they are hinting at romantic feelings, must all of them fall in love with him?

Anyway, I loved Astrids character, but she felt so rushed. She went from cheeky waitress to heroin in an hour...and although I could see her changing like that it needed to have happened over a series. You could see how caring her soul was yes, but to be such a hero she kills herself to save the remaning passengers/the doctor seemed perhaps a little overreaching

Apart from that, they fit an epic story in to a short space of time, and I enjoyed it.
Twilightz
QUOTE(Chiyo) *

I thought so too, but this kinda blew it. And this too. There's a episode where our beloved companions save the world from alien invasion. And it's, of course, doctorless.

I've wondered what will happen to Rose. I can't imagine her willingly choosing to be separated from the Doctor again. :/ Either Rose joins the Doctor again and she would also be in the three specials, or she dies in a tragic battle or something. Them being separated AGAIN would be pointless.
QUOTE(Chiyo) *

This would probably be the most cracktastic thing ever.. :'D

Yeah... I'll be quite disappointed if there's gonna be romantic feelings between Donna and Doctor. I just can't see it happening. ._.
Triss Hawkeye
I want Donna to be just a companion, like they were in the old days (most of them anyway).
Chiyo
The next series of Torchwood starts on Wednesday (least over here it is). Who else will be watching? Anyone else that much of a fan or prefer it to Dr Who? This weeks ep will have James Marsters in it (Spike from Buffy if I spelt his name right)

Torchwood Update: First ep of the new series was so...very...gay. Now thats not saying anything is wrong with homosexuality, but when a story takes a backseat to Jack snogging/coming on to everyone you have to worry. Its like Russell T Davis is reminding you Torchwood is for adults and scaring off any kids who think they can see a scarier Dr Who. It was a dull story, which felt like it only served as a means for Capn Jack and James Marsters to smooch, fight, smooch, bicker etc.

Least the upcoming eps look as though they'll be good...shame Martha makes an appearence, I'll almost put money on her n Capn Jack doing to bad thing to help her get over the Doctor.
Chiyo
UK wise, the new series of Doctor Who begins Saturday, filled with cute little monsters made of fat. Many will come back this series too, Martha, Rose, Micky, Sarah-Jane, Capn Jack all to help save the day from..well don't know that yet, probably a Dalek again since one still lives.

According to Catherine Tate, there won't be romance between Donna and the Doc, just perhaps a quick smooch. Then its goodbye to Dr Who till 2010.
Twilightz
QUOTE(Chiyo) *

Yes yes yes yes yes! Fantastic! : D I decided some time ago that I'll only like Donna if there's not romantic feelings between her and the Doctor. I practically squealed when the Doctor said "I just want a mate". xD But I don't get this obsession Donna has? had about the Doctor. Anyways, I will not judge Donna yet, but she sure is hilarious.

I agree with you, Triss. Bless the old days when most of the companions were just companions!

MY GOD I didn't expect the Rose part AT ALL. X__X NNNGGHH.
Chiyo
I knew Rose was coming back but that was pretty bloody quick

Episode one was a strange one wasn't it? By that I mean, apart from that one incident, no-one got hurt and everyone else involved was getting exactly what they wanted the humans lost weight and cute little aliens were born. The end was somewhat anti-climax but I know it was a big thing for the effects team.

As for Donna, she wasn't as bad as I expected. Although I did see some of her comedy characters now and then she wasn't silly. Also HURRAY for establishing NO LOVE, finally a good solid friendship that won't end in broken hearts.

As for the obbsession, if she didn't have it they wouldn't have brought her back. Its as simple as that I think, they never intended for her to become obsessed until they wanted her back in the series.

Thought her Grandfather had seen the 'blue box' before in the Christmas episode, did he forget?

Edit Note for Ep 4: Martha is going to be back? Already? Suppose a stint in Torchwood would make her what she is now. Love to see the interaction between Martha and Donna

As for Pompeii and Ood, is poor old Donna facing enough upsetting things or what? She keeps wanting to leave then decides nah, she'll stick around. She believed that she would see wonderful things with the Doctor, she knew that was unlikely after she first met him and faced an oversized spider! Its why she didn't go with him to begin with, gah!

Edite edit note: The ep hasn't shown yet, but I don't think I'm going to like the Doctors 'daughter'
Twilightz
I absolutely loved every bit of The Stolen Earth. Well, except the way it ended... A REGENERATION! WHAT?! WHAAAAAAT?! This can't be happening. I WILL DENY IT! Anyways, the whole ep was just so freakin' EPIC. ♥~
