In the light books Bamboo leaf rhapsody, Disappearance, Prologue - Winter, Snow mountain Syndrome, melancholy of Mikuru and Intrigues make for a good story arc. Give 'em a read if you don't want to wait for later series.
Lots of Yuki development, some Mikuru development recently, "bad guys" come out of the wood work, Kyon gets knifed and Mikuru appears in Kyons bed and gets nekkid

Annoyingly though the latest chapters of Intrigues have been translated by someone who didn't really try. =/

Book 7 spoilery goodness.
Nothing in depth, just the high points (well the bits IO found interesting) in Uber condensed manner.
*The first actual Bad guy appears in the form of a time traveller from a rival faction. (Technically though it's the third encounter with "The enemy" as both the Time travellers and a "thing" similar to the Data entity have already stuck their oar in.) Kyon dubs him "the sneering bastard"
*Mikuru gets the Princess Peach treatment only to be saved by the guys from Lone Island Syndrome.
*Tsuruya proves herself to be more than normal. Her family helps fund Itsuki's "Organisation" but other than that they seem to be pretty normal. She does have a dirty sense of humour though. <3
*Yuki cuts off her ability to communicate with her future selves so she won't be so stressed with the burden of knowledge.
*Throwing Turtles in rivers sounds like potential fun.
*Valentines day stuff.
*Very basic plot: Kyon meets a Mikuru from 8 days in the future. They are asked to preform some rather odd, pointless and brilliantly fun sounding tasks (Task 1: odd, Task 2: Time paradox? Task 3: Turtle abuse).

It's the best thing I've watched since FMA but that statement is rather misleading since I only watch 2-3 anime series in a year.

Has anyone heard about the "genderbending" rage that's going on right now? There's a thread with over 8,000 replies on AnimeSuki's forum called "The Genderbending of Haruhi Suzumiya", another thread devoted entirely to images, and tons of fanart and even some doujinshi.

I find it funny how Kyon is getting so much more attention as female than he did as male. A lot of Yuki/Haruhi/Mikuru fanboys have moved on to Kyonko. Though I do love Kyonko, I really do. She's adorable.

The full explanation is kind of a spoiler but the basics are that it's a reference to what happens in one of the books.

Spoiler for book 4;
Yuki decides to make universe where Haruhi has no powers, the others are just normal students (although they have the same personalities) and Kyon is given the choice of which Universe he wants.
There's also time travel, paradoxes, maths and Kyon being pretty awesome involved.

I'm still confused about that. Even with Haruhi being the hit it was I don't see Newtype having a rebroadcast of it as their front page story.
If it really is the case then they really must be trying to upset the fans.

@Lunneth; if you watch it carefully (or sped up) you'll see one of the buildings morph (I believe the windows sink into the ground and rise up again in a different shape.)

Haruhi character songs are awesome. Though, I don't like Kyon's, Mikuru's, Emiri's or Haruhi's. And the only ones I like from Tsuruya and Ryouko are Seishun Janaii Katsu and COOL EDITION.

That reminds me, I've heard of some games for the series. One I saw was a fighting game(lol?) and the other was a dancing game for the Wii. Wish those would be imported...

I hate Kyon. He's ugly, his voice is too deep, an he's never happy. Itsuki is attractive, has a pretty voice, and is always smiling. Kyon could take a lesson from him.

okay i know people can obsess over certain characters but the thing is individuality steps in at this point. well i guess it all depends on gender. besides without kyon, there would be no haruhi series at all. just be happy. i mean i don't particularly like the protagonist in persona 4 but i still like the look of the game. i dont see what the deal is about.

I have been meaning to watch this. But I haven't gotten around to it. I tried reading the Manga, but I just stopped. I got to chapter 3.

Japan continues it's battle to confuse and frustrate me.
Rumours, seemingly confirmed, now say the "re-airing" will be 28 eps long.
I really can't bring myself to believe this though because the blog that reports this is to anime blogging what "The National Enquirer" and other rags are to news.

^Hrm...Damn...does this mean not to expect a new season I wonder? I was pretty excited for that too. Though, that event from the official Japanese site, when you put the code in and see Yuki, would be for naught if there was no season 2...

Well the first season was 14 and 28 is bigger than that which implies new episodes but I'm just not confident in rumours.
It's one of those sit and wait deals.

I guess so. The only other thing I can think of would be the re-airing of the the first 14, with the addition of the next 14. So, if that's true, we can probably conclude it's some form of a continuation. But that's just a slight possibility.

I guess we will have to wait~

The song is also listed as OP01 in Gendou, and the anime is listed as "Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuuutsu", and was just recently uploaded. I'm not sure if it's an OVA, or what, but when I search it, all I get is season/series one.
