Same here... My brother said stuff about it too...

I agree though. Girls have as much of a right to read what they want just as much as any boy. I read Trigun and a few of my friends say Its a bit too 'violent' for me... They want violence? They should pick up Johnny the Homicidal Maniac...
Vampire Alchemist
I love Love Hina. All my guyfriends were shcoked when they found out that i read it. I found it funny and some girls can reffer to it like me.
Chibi-Usa
People dub manga as "comic books" and girls supposedly don't read comic books so people judge. That's my take on it.
HalfAsian Alchemist
I know I'm not female, but where I'm from, I, too, get judged for just saying I watch anime (haven't really "discovered" manga yet ohmy.gif ). Usually, the response is something along the lines of me liking Pokemon, which I must admit I did, since it was my first anime. Anime and manga aren't really big around where I live... While not exactly the same boat, it is close. I happen to think that one should read/watch whatever he/she wants to, provided it's legal.

You don't remember having a life worth living, do you?

There are a lot of people who bash others on the forums because they're way too cowardly to bash them face to face.

This guy needs to be banned. Calling one forum member an ass*ole is bad enough, but then going and calling another a d*ckhead is just bad. And they did nothing to annoy Panda Battle.

Panda Battle I was going to be nice and handle this nicely, but I have to use my imfamous bold letters: GET A LIFE. WHY DON'T YOU DO SOMETHING BETTER THAN CALLING FORUM MEMBERS CRUDE NAMES? ACT LIKE YOU'RE MATURE, BUT I DOUBT YOU COULD EVEN FIND OUT WHAT MATURE MEANS. GO AHEAD, CALL ME AN ASSHOLE AND MANY OTHER NAMES. I DON'T CARE. YOU CAN INSULT ME ALL YOU WANT, BUT WAIT UNTIL THE MODERATORS GET ON YOUR ASS. INSULTING OTHER FORUM MEMBERS, ESPECIALLY IN THAT WAY, IS NOT TOLERATED HERE. WE HAVE CHILDREN ON THESE FORUMS, LIKE MYSELF, WHO ARE SEEING THOSE POSTS. IF US GOOD MEMBERS SHOULD DO ANYTHING, WE SHOULD REPORT YOU TO THE MODERATORS. THEY'LL HANDLE YOU. GOODBYE, HAVE A NICE DAY, AND HAVE FUN BEING BASHED BY MEMBERS. OH, AND GET...A...FREAKING...LIFE!

Now that's out of my system. Chances are he'll come back and call me an asshole or something like that, I won't take it seriously. He's too immature to scare me.

I still think Panda Battle got hacked. He's mentioned that he read manga so maybe a friend signed on and did this as a prank....

lol @ the hacking explanation.

People will get judged for a lot of things they do.

The best thing to do is ignore them and do what you want!

...wait... this topic is over a year old... O_O

It doesn't really matter if you're a guy or a girl. Everyone gets judged for following fandoms sometime. And that doesn't matter either, so long as you enjoy what you read/watch/whatever. People have different views and tastes; we can't do anything about that. At the same time, let's try not to force our fandoms on people who aren't as fond of them as we are. wink.gif Give and take.

And just because an anime/manga is overrun by girls or has a female main character doesn't mean it's automatically shoujo, in the same way that a fandom dominated my male characters isn't always shounen. You also have to take into consideration the other protagonists (who gets more attention, who is the MAIN protagonist) and the theme.

For example, Blood+ has a female protagonist (Saya) but is classified under shounen for action/adventure scenes.
Untitled
Haha Blood + rocks laugh.gif
OnT:
It's their problem if they judge you. As long as you enjoy doing what you do, they'll be missing a lot. You really shouldn't let it get to you. I'm female and I love manga. We should all be proud of what we think of ourselves, not of what others think of us.
~Kurenai~
dry.gif stupid girl in my math class who sat next to me would always go, "OOh, you reading porno!!" whenever I'd be reading Sensual Phrase...

Girl get judged for reading these? huh.gif

I've never been judged for reading the pervy stuff like Chobits or Negima! ....my girl friends read them too and don't get judged. o_o;

I think I was judged for buying Miyuki-chan in Wonderland tho. Although I think the store clerk was happy with his conclusion, teehee. That being I must be a lesbian to buy yuri XD That was a funny day.

Anyways, I think girls who are judged for reading them are being judged on the basis that all girls think that female fanservice is disgusting and all men as pigs and demand a bit more dignity. It's probably the guys judging are more so surprised and confused because it seems odd to them that a girl would willingly read something that has female fanservice in it and not be revolted. It's like when they see a woman looking through a playboy. Same reaction.
jacksparrow589
First off, yes, I'm a girl. The "jacksparrow" part of my username refers to my camp name at Girl Scout camp. I just wanted to clear that little bit up before I put in my two-bits.

I think it's like the whole "boys don't cry" thing. If a girl reads something that's remotely fan-service-y pertaining to girls, it goes against the norm. Kinda like if a girl was seen reading Playboy, you know? I've never done so or run into anyone who has, so if I did and was ignorant, biased, or what have you, I would find it really weird that a girl was reading that. (I wrote this without reading Fushigi Rockna's comment beforehand. Sorry 'bout that, but I'm glad to know that someone has the same logic as me!)

That said, I like Love Hina and Chobits. The stories in and of themselves are cute, and I like the art. As to how the characters look, I can't control that. What first attracted me to each of those was the story. Always has been and always will be for those and anything else I read and/or watch.
Tris the Reaper
Simply put, people [namely, many teens I've met] nowadays are arrogant little prats that can find nothing better to do than to jump to conclusions. Chobits and Love Hina are supposed to be shounen/seinen, so when people see girls reading a manga with girls on the cover featuring large breasts, it's pratically mandatory for them to go "LOL SHE'S A LESIBAN".

That, and children nowadays can't accept anything unorthodox. Oh no, doing pot and sleeping around are perfectly fine, but reading manga!? Heresy, sheer heresy!

*groans* I'm so glad I only have one school year left in those hell holes they call high schools. dry.gif

I read Playboy for the articles. :D

But yeah, that's exactly what I was trying to say.

Mind you tho, it does make sense if someone thinks you're a lesbian because you're buying yuri manga. Female fanservice is one thing, full fledged girl on gril can be another story :P
Fujihakama
Maybe some people think it's a tad strange to see a fangirl read something like this?
I really don't see anything wrong with girls who read Chobits or something. Though parts of the manga CAN be a bit dodgy..... Maybe that's why people stare at them...?
Zalamist
"Normal" people that I work with make fun of me and we all laugh at my being a nerd. My best friends and I spend most of our time insulting each other and then laughing hysterically because we know it's all in fun. Are people saying these things to you in a mean kind of way? If so, that's not cool.

Well put.

somebody thought I was bi becuase my hair is semi short(around my jaw, I cut it to be a bit more original) and I read shonen. Its like if I go to school dressed in all black people automatically think I'm emo or goth. Though I dont see how these series would matter as long as we are not sitting there staring at the female fanservice pic's for hours at a time. I mean I dont know about love Hina but isnt chobits a bit on the 'cute' side at first glance, Im shocked guys dont get judged for these just as much if not more then girls do.
The Hawkeye Alchemist
Funny, I never have been judged by the anime/manga I watch/read. And oddly, nearly all of my favorite anime/manga is shonen/seinen, which includes Claymore, FMA(yep, that's included of course), Wolf's Rain, Berserk, Rune Soldier, Escaflowne(though considered shojo as well). I know a lot of girls who enjoy shonen/seinen, and I even know guys who read shojo. XD

I personally don't see anything wrong with it. But then again, I'll probably watch any anime that has to deal with fantasy/scifi, action, and/or history. In that case I always ignore the demographics and go by my own personal interest instead.
Naivete
o.O

But I actually enjoyed reading/watching Love Hina. Yes, a bit on the perveted side but that's just part of the humour, and we can all take a little dirty joke...right?

And I'm a bit peeved off that people automatically assume that all girls enjoy reading shojou series. Heck, I absolutely despise most shojou manga. Just because a certain anime/manga series is targeted at a certain group, it does not mean that people who do not fit into that group need to stay away from it, nor does it mean that EVERYONE from that group MUST enjoy it. Unless there's some crap about illegal stuff for minors like pr0n...
Little Washu
A friend of mine used to make fun of me because of the manga I read. It was a Love Hina one, and Chobits. He said he enjoyed the cover art though(I bet you can guess why). It's hard to believe that Love Hina is shounen though. A lot of times, when I read Naruto, people are like "That's for little boys." Well, I can say it is NOT for LITTLE boys. Because of.....some content.
Kari_Neko
To me manga is manga no matter how you look at it.I like reading most manga as long as it interests me though shojo isn't my favorite.
Little Washu
Heh, a friend of mine(as mentioned above) was looking at the cover of Love Hina Novel Vol. 2. All he said was: "Are you gay or something?" For the record, I didn't choose the cover tongue.gif.
EniviD EiraM
manga is made for both genders .. it doesn't matter but if it keeps on bugging you
then ...

simply look for another one that is better ! smile.gif

boys are even mistaken to be gays if they read shoujo manga, right?

it means that something suits better and that you're not alone smile.gif)
