A note about Professor Haushofer--he was real, in 1921 he was a professor of geography at the Munich University, and apparently went on to be a key figure in the Nazi party with rumored connections to the Thule Society and to other occult organizations. He studied and advised the Japanese army and was instrumental in forming the German-Japanese alliance. Here's one site I found, and there's a ton more if you google "professor haushofer".

I think this was mentioned at some point in this thread, but why did Ed have automail (or the other side equivilant) again after he was taken to the other side? Didn't he have all of his limbs when he rigged all that up?

ok i just registared on these forums a moment ago, so excuse the lack of fancy avatars and sigs biggrin.gif

Anyway i'd thought i chime in w/ my two cents here. I love this series more than most other anime films/series. The ending, however, left me with mixed feelings. The animators set up a lot of different plot lines and left themselves with little time to resolve it all. To me, the series felt like it was just beginning around episode 45 or 46 where we learn the truth about Hohenheim, Dante, and the Homuncouli. Like i finally understood everything, and i was ready to watch the next 10 or 20 episodes. But, then it all comes to an end, and a rather unfinished one at that. So heres a few questions

Dante and Guttony are both dead?
Envy is where exactly?
Wrath is like a hobo now i guess, whats the deal there?
Al has no memory of the last 4 years, yet chezka asks if any of those memories have returned. Could this be hinting at his memory coming back eventually?
Is Hohenheim trying to rediscover alchemy in that world now...i thought he was glad to be free of it?

I haven't watched the subs for this show, and am yet to see the movie, but i do have all of them in my possession now. So, maybe i can answer some of these questions for myself after watching the movie.

Concerning the ending:

1 After all they went through, all the peoplel they met, time they shared, and lives they changed, Ed and Al become separated!!!!!!!!!
Sure Als alive now, but all of the last 4 years were the most important in his life, and thats been taken away from him. And edward is stranded in the other world. Its nice that hes with his father ( perhaps they can bond now) But he isn't even positive that what he did worked, and he has no idea what happened after he left through the gate. Sure it was a happy ending for us as the viewer, but ed doesn't know that the military gave control of the counrty back to the people, or that the ishballans are finally free. I feel really sad about the whole situation. I watched these 2 go through sooo much pain, and i all i wanted was for them to be together and happy at the end.

2. I always hoped that Winry and Edward would eventually be together, and it seems as though that will never happen now.........*tear*, poor winry. You guys have to feel really bad for her. She lost edward to the gate, and the al she knew the last 4 years was "replaced" with a new al. My sympathies are with you Winry sad.gif

3.On a brighter note, i loved seeing rizza/roy together. I always hoped that would happen since early episodes. The scene at the end with those 2 and the little doggy was very touching.

Over all this series is incredible. I'm a very critical person when it comes to anime, music , and books, so for me to say that this is one of favorite stories across all types of mediums means a lot. I may have not felt happy with all the of the ending, but is it not the journey sometimes that most important, not where it ends?

guess that was more then 2 cents ...more like a dollar-fifty or so.....

Dante and Guttony are both dead?
Dante is dead. Gluttony is not
Envy is where exactly?

Otherside of the gate.

Wrath is like a hobo now i guess, whats the deal there?
Watch the movie wink.gif

Al has no memory of the last 4 years, yet chezka asks if any of those memories have returned. Could this be hinting at his memory coming back eventually?

See the above

Is Hohenheim trying to rediscover alchemy in that world now...i thought he was glad to be free of it?

And the biggest question of them all, The one that I bet everyone on this forum is wondering... Why does Envy wear a Miniskirt?

...well i guess 400 years without a caring, loving family can tourture a guy... but a miniskirt?

*SNORT* LOL!!!! Well, in all fairness, he was pretty messed up anyway. I mean, that is some grudge to want to kill your old man 400 years later. When Hohenhim (I can't spell...) transmuted him, he must have accidentally transmuted some stick up his butt or something to have a grudge that severe for that long (which amazingly would explain the miniskirt, LOL)
kakashi_n1
I though that it was a good ep but I think that they rush it a bit, i thought that they killed off Bradley too fast and we didn’t see how ed put al back together and also the ending sucked who ends a great anime like this one on a cliffhanger I don’t know what the hell they were thinking but even with all that it still was a good ep
from what I’ve read, even the movie leaves you off on a cliffhanger, I personally think that if they are just going to keep leaving us with cliffhangers then they should be forced to continue with the series
YouTube has the english version of the final episode up now. It's in three parts which means it's pretty good quality and it load really fast. It's under the English title "Laws and Promises" so look for that in the heading. I was kinda bummed that they took out Ed's final line before the commercial break. In the Japanese he transmutes himself and then says/thinks "Come back Al." Also, in the Japanese Ed did not see Al's body getting put back together, he had absolutely no idea what happened to Al or if anything he did helped. Still a very good episode though.

And to answer someone's question Ed did not have his automail in the other world, he was imagining it. Ed relost his arm and leg when he went through and his father set him up with prosthetics from that side of the gate. Because of that you'll notice how limp Ed had his arm, he can't actually use it most of the time. According to the movie
he has a little motor that lets him use the arm briefly but it burns all the false skin off his arm and has to be repaired.
For all intents and purposes, Ed's arm in the real world is primarily for aesthetic value, he can lift it and do basic movements (since his father designed it, it's advanced for that time) but he can't do much else. The leg he has can do most of the stuff the automail did (bend at the ankel and knee mainly) but it's a lot more fragile than the automail leg was.

I know, huh! I knew something was up, was different, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. But I knew for sure Ed was missing a part of his "speech".

Kinda late for this.

First off. Dante, you got what you deserved.

Gluttony. Jabba the Hutt is a good look this year...

Bradley. You strangled your son and threw him against a wall. I felt bad for the kid, he trusted you. I feel Bradley truely loved his son, he only killed him in a fit of rage.

Hey hey! Archer! Had you not driven like a drunk woman you would have had a working mouth cannon and killed Mustang. Can't blame you though buddy, must be hard to drive with a few tons on your left side.

Wrath! You are still burnt.

Everyone else. You brought nothing to the ending!

After seeing the movie, I almost wish they hadn't made it, because I felt that FMA had such a beautiful finale and it was somewhat spoiled by doing a follow-up story that in ways plaed in comparison to the TV series. But enough of my babbling. Did anyone else cry during the scene at the gate between Ed and Envy? The music drove me to tears and I'm not sure why. Maybe I just haven't had a good cry in a long time and it was a way letting myself cry. Yeah, I'm emotional, and proud of it. biggrin.gif
Jedi28
I thought that was a little bizarre myself. Envy had just killed Ed and they're having a relatively normal conversation? AND Ed warns Envy about opening the gate? I'd have been like "Yeah, open it you jerk, it'll be all happiness for ya." I was expecting a conversation like:
Ed: You bastard you killed me, why are you here?!?!
Envy: You bastard I killed you, why are you here?!?!?!

That music gave me chills too... I went and looked it up online and found out it's Chopin's Etude No. 3 in E Major, commonly known as his "Tristesse" etude. I loved the orchestral arrangement of it during the second half of the episode too. A while ago I transcribed the piano arrangement of "Bratja" from Ep 38 and learned how to play that, and now I want to learn how to play Tristesse, lol...

I still haven't quite digested the episode.....I don't think I ever will really. But when thinking about Ed's limbs coming and going throughout the episode and several wandering thoughts to when they tried to resserect thier mother, I came up with this.

(At the Gate)

Ed: So...Truth. What's it gunna cost me this time?

Truth: Well buddy...an arm and a leg.

It's funny at 4 A.M...I burst out laughing when I thought of it. I'm horrible really....and in much need of more sleep. This little joke is not quite truthful to the anime...not sure if I ever heard of Truth watching it...

I've watched part of the movie...I haven't gotten far, so I'm not labeling it as good or bad. But overall....I think my reaction to FMA in general is *WOA*.

....and I still can't believe it's over.....
Jedi28
Someone had a really cute avatar that had Ed standing before the Gate and asking what the meaning to life, the universe and everything was. The Gate responded "42" and when Ed asked what the proper question was the Gate said, "It'll cost you another leg" to which Ed responded "darn." The avy was actually longer than that, I forget who had it though. It was hailarious.

Wait...I just realized something...

Why did Archer fall over and die instantly?
I mean, his right half was left?
What is in our right side?

OUR LUNG!

Now, he got shot in the upper right side, so, his lungs got all F'ed up, right?

But why would that cause him to keel over dead?

He should of had a good two and a half minutes!

That is if he needed a lung!

He does not have a heart! The vital pump in which to move OXYGEN enriched blood throughout the body! But without a heart that lung has no purpose, so Archer never used it! So why did he die when shot in it six times?

I call BS on this particular part of the episode! BS I SAY!

Maybe one of the bullets hit his spine...
Yeah,he din't die,he just became paralyzed.He's now a head mounted on an automail body....uh-huh.

I watched the clip! Many times! Not one bullet strayed to the spinal column!

The interesting thing about the series, the first episode that I saw was episode 13 (Full Metal Vs. Flame) So I was hooked from the first time I saw it. I pulled a lot of strings in different places to get my copies of the Subs. So I saw the ending along with the movie several months ago. I was a good little girl and kept my mouth shut and said nothing to anyone for fear of spoiling something.

Now that the series has concluded. I can say this very loud.... Is that it? What the hell? How dare you? Course then after seeing the movie, I was happy, but still sad.

So I have started reading the Manga to find out what the heck really happens.

Deciphering done. dry.gif

There's one movie that ends the series after Episode 51. It takes place a few years after the last episode, I believe two. Check out this thread for more information about Conqueror of Shambala itself.

By the way, welcome to the forum! happy.gif

There is only one movie out at the time and I believe that'll be it, ending the series. It comes out subbed in October I believe. More info on that can be found here. For the best info on that movie I would recommend checking out the movie forum area. Also the thread I posted a link to in my last post is always a good place for movie information.

Well, he was still human there.
And do you think that any human could actually survive 6 shots into their back?
I think not.

As for how the final episode went..
I cried. It was the most emotional episode of all(except for 26, when Hughes died. nothing tops the sadness of that).
But my 2 biggest questions:
1. How in the F did Mustang survive when that huge chunk of his head was assumibly blown off?
and 2. When in the crap is the FMA movie being released in the us??? Im going insane right now!! There are so many questions taht the final episode didnt actually answer.

Oh, and what actually happened to Dante and Greed? Did they both get take past the gate? Or what? Still a little stumped about that is all.

yea buttlet wounds are much worse than they actually show in movies and stuff....where the hero can still walk when shot in his leg and then saves the world
i dont think Mustang had a chunk of his head taken off,,,,the bullet probably got stuck in his eye blink.gif

I did not see this post until now. Agh.

I know close to nothing on anatomy but I do know if things were going greatly logically Archer would be dead a good long time ago. Not saying he should have died. But the truth is he's still alive, ha! -end fangirl-

But yeah everything said is true. Archer doesn't need that lung nor many other vital internal organs. Either Riza hit his "robotic" heart or basically whatever had been keeping him alive(though I'd find it odd they didn't stick that in the protective metal half) or he just froze. If you hit a machine enough in the right area it'll probably freeze up.

We never know if he really did die now do we? He could be alive in hiding somewhere. Hah!

Soldier 1: I think it's over here...
Soldier 2: No you idiot, why would it be on that side of his body. It has to be under his leg or something.
Soldier 1: IF it's under his leg, you are the one looking for it...

The american version (Not sure the difference between the two as of yet) wasn't that awesome.

I have to say though, I didn't want it to end, it's like they ended it way to suddenly, rushing so much in the end, I was stunned.. I'm not sure if I am dissapointed in episode 51 or not.
