Anyways, I'm not to crazy about the EdXRose pairing. When I saw episode one, I was, but then I kept watching and figured EdXWinry, or EdXRoy would be better couplings. I mean, Rose is too hung over her dead boyfriend to worry about anyone else. I say Ed deserves someone who cares about him, and Rose isn't it.

I like Rose (OK, I couldn't really stand her at the beginning for being so damned naive but later on she really made an effort and pulled through) and I like the fact she turned out okay in the end. Doesn't mean to say I support her potential relationship with Ed, though. I like her with Mason~ *__* They'd make a very cute couple. Her baby... is ugly, I have to admit. But give him some time and he'll turn out find fine like his mommy did. ^.^

I like her better than any other girl in the series, actually. Except for Panninnya of course. XD She's hot, independent, has wit and... far too underappreciated. -__- I can't even spell her name right. T.T

Ed and Rose Are you mad?

I don't think he was actually in love with her (niether was Al) its just Dante wanting to hang on to Hohenheim in some way. Rose could be seen as a beauty, and I'd guess Dante always wants to be beautiful. She must have just assumed the Elrics would love her.

And I'm not just saying this because I'm an Ed/Win fan.

*smiles* Something a leeeettle bit important has been forgotten here. It's possible to be attracted to more than one person at once.

Ed is a teenage boy who's spent most of his puberty period, the time when most normal boys are discovering girls, in a deeply involving, rather obsessive quest to restore his brother. Hence, he does not display his awareness and/or appreciation of girls as blatantly as, say, Lieutenant Havoc. It takes a more subtle eye to find his likes and dislikes.

Now, personally, I'm a huge EdWin fan, and I fully support them as a couple. However, I don't think it can be denied that Ed was attracted to Rose. Maybe not in a deep, true, lifelong sort of way, but he definitely liked the girl.

Evidence? Let's start with their first meeting. Ed is right smack dab in the middle of beating the tar out of some people who broke the Rule #1 of Dealing With Fullmetal; don't insult his height. Typically, when people do this to Ed, he rabidly freaks out until Al manages to physically drag him away from them. However, when Rose speaks, Ed instantly freezes, looks at her, and loses interest in his current victims. Later, when she teases him about his height, he reacts without his usual venom; his reactions are more of an "Awww" and a "Hey! No fair!", respectively. He chases her, but does not attack or verbally abuse her. The whole thing comes off almost like (the closest Ed ever gets to) flirting.

This is not chivalry. Ed does not spare women over chivalry if they tick him off. Al is the one who doesn't like to hit girls.

Ed then proceeds to not pay a supreme amount of attention to Rose for the rest of the arc. He argues religion with her, but doesn't do much else. Okay. However, he seems genuinely determined to teach her a lesson about herself, which is unusual for Ed. He tends to blow through towns, do his good deeds, and leave; he rarely spends this much time trying to convince one person of anything.

During the brothers' second trip toward Lior, Al mentions Rose. Ed responds, gruffly, "Who's she?" His voice sounds penultimately fake. Al tells him in a knowing, patient sort of way, "Don't pretend you don't remember, Niisan."

Most of the rest of their interaction in Lior can be chalked up to Ed's general tendency to throw himself into helping others.

And then, in the opera house, comes the dance. Now, Rose had snapped out of her daze when Ed battled Wrath in the tunnels. She seemed aware and sensible. Later, she seems strangely detached and vaguely happy, a big change from her previous silent and depressed state. She chatters, she dances, nothing that happens around her seems to touch her. Dante did something to put her into this new dazed state, which is very different from her previous symptoms of shock. Considering the absurd cheerfulness she displayed, I'm guessing it was drugs or some kind of mental manipulation.

I think Ed is fully aware that something is really fishy about Rose's behavior. He's not stupid. However, he does blush when Rose tells him she was waiting for him, and does not at first protest when she sweeps him up into her dance.

So yes, as a general overview, I would say that Ed was attracted to Rose, but not in a supremely serious manner. I think he was drawn to her from the beginning and protected her to an unusual extent; and his behavior around her indicates attraction; but it also indicates a lot of confusion.

And in the end, there's the problem of the baby. Rose loves that baby and takes excellent care of it (when she's not utterly drugged to the eyeballs by Dante). Rose and baby are a package deal now, and I don't think Ed's ready to be a stepdaddy. So, between that and Ed's stronger bond with Winry, I would say that his attraction to Rose probably won't go anywhere.

(Oh, and incidentally, I don't think Hakuro raped her. He's arrogant and foolish, but I don't think he's /that/ cruel. For that matter, the baby looks nothing like Hakuro, or like Hakuro's children, whom you see in the train terrorists episode.)

Then again, it could just be Rose gets special treatment. You know, like when something bad (generally for humor's sake) happens and a character, generally female, gets off easier than the other characters.

I think Tobu Ishi has hit the nail on the head. Of course it is possible to like two people at once...he's a teenage boy.

But as you say, ultimatley he isn't ready to be a dad. Especially to a child that isn't his own.

I agree with Tobu Ishi. Ed already has the weight of the world on his shoulders...he doesn't need a baby on top of that too. In my opinion, he should get with Winry, but that's just my opinion.

I think i saw in the gallery where Al is holding Rose's baby. He looked like Roy in a way. I'm not implying taht Roy's the one who did that, i'm just saying the baby REALLY lookes like Roy in a way. Also how old was Rose when she was err raped? 15 or 16?

I'm not sure you find out exactly what age she is but I'd hazard a guess that she was 16.

Sorry for not reading all posts in this thread (just too many DX), and sorry if this has already been asked, but those scenes with dante/ed/roze in that house/mansion thing...was Roze somehow possesed by something? like taken control by Dante? Hypnotized somehow? To me it seems that way...but I'm really not sure. And what's the story behind Dante saying something like: "Roze was waiting all this time for you Ed. (sorry for butchering that quote XD)" was Roze in love with Ed? I'd appreciate someone clearing al this up for me ^^...and sorry again if it's been asked before.

Well Rose may have been waiting there, but she was in a trance most of the time so she had pretty much no idea where she was. Dante just wants Ed to be in love with Rose so that when she takes Roses body he will then love Dante.

Let's have an analysis to the Rose bashing in this thread:

Listen, the stuff that's happened to Rose goes beyond the crap people whine about in their live journals. And even when Rose was as far as half-way through her trip of mental destruction, she was trying to protect those damn helpless children before the soldiers captured her.

It seemed pretty obvious in Episode 1 and 2 that Ed was attracted to her. i'm sure the Homunculi noticed this, and likely informed Dante later on, which influenced her decision.

Also, let's remember that Ed is a teenage boy and is extremely susceptible to T&A from almost any source.

I do wonder (I think I have mentioned this sorry) what would have happened if Dante ever saw interaction between Ed and Winry? Her goal is to get the son of Hohenheim to love her yes? If she was smart she would have chosen the childhood friend over the small crush surely? Ed loves Winry, even if it is as a friend, and always will do. That would have been a far more secure body to take.

Yeah Chiyo I mean Rose would be secure but there was always the off chance Ed would destroy Rose's body. I wouldn't believe a word that Dante says... shes crazy after all (she wants the son of Hohenheim to love her ). Just because you help someone doesn't mean you will like them... especially if you don't really expect to see that person ever again but they show up a couple months after anyway. Al thought that Psiren was pretty and kind, he had more feelings for her than Roze but he doesn't even like her(too old anyway). Roze's relationship with the brothers is just like any other girl they've helped. And that would really suck if they did have a thing for each other. Roze, even though she is not that crazy about her religion anymore she is still weak and stupid. She let Dante (and maybe some others like Scar) make her into this "holy mother" and use her even when she probably knows it's wrong and the stupidest thing is when she was talking to Edo in the end and doesn't even tell him to be careful or at least try to catch on to what he was about to do, instead she thinks everything will work out fine and just leaves. Your friend has just been revived and you leave him all alone in a place that will be destroyed and all you do is ask if he will make it out because hes got legs to walk now... some friend.

I think it shows that Rose likes Ed, but when she first saw his auto-mail she was way too freaked out. to Rose: people loose limbs sometimes. I'm not so entriely sure Ed likes Rose , it does show really. but what if he does *gasp* that would be a heart breaking shock. I don't like Rose AT ALL! I found her just as annoying as Ed did when she first appeared. Damn she cried and whined too friggin much! Walk on your own two feet, move forward, the strongest minded survive, and this crying won't do crap!

Ed and Rose just don't mix really. They don't look good together at all, just can't see that. Him suddenly liking her must just be a sudden attraction, but nothing really clicking. I don't see how, unless these days slut is just another word for 'person I don't like', Rose could possibly be seen as a slut. And you seem to be implying by 'Winry wouldn't let anyone touch her' that she let herself get raped? Are you really one of those people who blames the victims? Rape is not the victim's fault, especially in a situation like this. It was a war crime. Look through history. Soldiers rape women to destroy the enemy's morale.
And by saying that Winry wouldn't have let anyone touch her, you seem to imply that she might have had a choice in the matter. I'm sorry, but rape, especially in times of war, isn't a slutty little game where you go, "Oh noes, tee hee, don't rape me, mister. Really I mean it! Oh, oh well, whatever go ahead." It's a brutal and violent crime. I highly doubt any of the female characters in the series, (Or even males for that matter) save perhaps Izumi would have been able to defend themselves in just a situation. Even Hawkeye with her military training and strength with firearms would be very much at a disadvantage against a group of other soldiers, especially if they were with the mindset that she were only an object for them to have their way with.

Yes, to an extent, that's important, but remember, those things take time. I hardly believe you would march up to a defiled young woman in a third world country and yell at her to 'Get over it'. She will. And in all likeliness, she's trying as hard as heck. Just her living on can take willpower.

And, really, if you haven't noticed, or just decided to omit details because you're clearing out your memories to fill with hate for your ovary-scapegoat™, She IS getting over it. "She should listen to Ed"? Um... duh. She is. That's the point. Ed is pretty much the only truly trustable person to her, and even if she dosen't agree with him or trust him completely, those words of his saved her. She listens to him and how. That's probably the only thing that kept her going after her life became a complete hell-pit. (And really, that was partly Ed's doing. If anything, you should be hating Edward for making such a mess of things and making so many people suffer with his actions.) I can't imagine living on the way she did and still trusting his words. Heck, if all the crap happened to her happened to me, I probably would have killed myself before I had the baby. But she lives on. Why? Because she still has a shred of belief, a small flicker of strength within her. She still has a strong human soul within her. She keeps on living because she knows she has to. That in itself should count for 'getting over it'.

Hey, Rose is just not a favorite character. For me...ahhhh, not really becuz of the her and Ed thing...but I just couldn't find it in my heart to like her much when she first appeared in those two beginning episodes. she was just a minor character, like everybody else, and suddenly she kept reappearing?
