Well, DJ_Zephyr pretty much got my idea, but I'll go ahead and put it down anyway, since it seems to be a variation.

The Furyblade Alchemist

Of course, I'd carry a couple swords; most likely of the Katana variation.

I'd have the transmutation circles tattooed on the inside of my lip to create a new sword whenever current one(s) are broken or taken or whatnot, which could be pulled from the heavy elements inside the earth, like when Ed busts out a spear.

The blade would be highly customizable, to include transmutation circles etched in the blade, handle, and thumbguard, for whatever purposes I need at the time. I always wonder why Al didn't etch his standard circle somewhere in his armor...

Through the might of Alchemy, this sword would be practically indestructable, save for someone using Alchemy to destroy it.

The beauty of this is the various things that could be done. Practically any previously seen effect could be replicated (Kimbley's matter instability, Mustang's flames through clinging blades together to make a spark, waves of air like Leera, ANYTHING) by having the appropriate circles pre-etched into the swords. There is a lot of room for Mary-Sueness in this Alchemist (As long as there is room for the circles, ANY Alchemy could be done).

One of the more obvious ideas would be to transmute a sword with the Philosopher's Stone circle on it, ala Scar's tattoo, which could analyze and break down anything. I think it would be more badass to use a sword than an arm.

The 2 abilities I have thought of that don't steal from others are the following:
-Similar to how Ed and Izumi make hands pop out of the ground/floor/walls, I could slice through the ground and have an "extension" of the blade come out of the ground near an opponent, or a wall/floor/ceiling if I'm in a building.
-I'd be able to transmute the blade into a highly contained blade made of the fourth state of matter, plasma. It would be practically unstoppable, although the matter of containing it is a difficult to solve problem. It would require immense concentration, and unless I've seen the gate, it would likely wear me out to use it too often, or for too long.
I was also thinking that one of the circles on the blade would enable me to transmute practically anything I touch/stab with the sword into plasma, destroying it.

That's about it.

I'm very partial to "Fullmettle Alchemist" and have been using it as an internet handle for quite a while. (I found it funny when once someone had mentioned that I misspelled the name of the anime series.) 'Mettle' can refer to fortitude of spirit, and I sometimes think that Edward's title is something like a pun on that word - in English, anyway. Besides, Edward's character definitely has a lot of that fortitude.

Lets see, I would be The Illusion Alchemist.

In reality, I would need like thousands of circles to actually make it work, but if I could do alchemy without a circle, then it would work.

Well, anyway, I would sen electrical currents through the air and have them react with the elements that make up the air. It's like how neon lights work, only in the air and I would be able to make different shapes, or shock people if I really wanted.

On a side note, my friend is the Food Alchemist (she can clap, slam her hands on the table, and food will magically appear. don't ask how it really works, cuz I'm not even sure, but it would be awesome if it could!)

i would probably be called the blood alchemist or the element alchemist (periodic table, earth, fire, wind, water, etc)

I actually started writing a mini-fanfic a while ago with my own alchemist character. Then I gave up

My State Alchemist codename would be the "Baleful Eye Alchemist". My fanfic character lost his left eye trying to keep a mortally wounded comrade alive after a battle - he sacrificed his eye in process and saw the Gate of Truth. Later, he had a unique piece of automail forged for him that replaced the lost eye. This automail eye would allow him to see over great distances, and record (and project) things he saw. He would often record other alchemists' "secret techniques" and transmutation circles, and then duplicate them. He successfully copies Roy's flame techniques and gets into a fight with Alex Armstrong for attempting to copy his "ancient Armstrong art passed down through generations".

His favorite weapons, besides alchemy, are a sword and a sniper rifle.

I'd be called the same as my username, EveningAlchemist! It was the name I used when I ran around town with my friends pretending to be alchemists. (Good times...) I never really decided what kind of alchemy I would use. It changed from making black fog to warping memories, but you know, I used the name cause it just... sounded cool.

Ironheart Alchemist. Thinks purely logical. Crazy fast and based almost entirely on hand-to-hand and using his katana. Black combat uniform.

I'd be the Teardrop Alchemist. I could control all sorts of water and liquids. I'd be extreemly powerful with salty water becuse of my name. I could also control other people's bodies because humans are over 50% water.
Of course, that's actually the State Alchemist name for my OC of my soon-to-be-released FMA fan-fic. Her name has a double meaning because of her past and her being subseptible (sp?) to other's feelings of sadness, even if it's hidden.

Well, my alchemical skills would match what seems to be the standard, sort of "general" set of abilities; mainly manipulation of inorganic solids, with a little liquid/gas manipulation if I need it. I'd probably tend mainly toward metals, and go for finesse and aim rather than brute strength and quantity. In non-combat situations, I'd mainly be working with mechanical things.

Thus... the Clockwork Alchemist?

(Though, due to my habit of forgetting to eat when doing research, I'd probably end up being known more by a nickname, the "Fainting Alchemist.")

I had to research the theory and stuff like having the transmutation circle actually make sense and the alchemy method scientifically make sense to.
Kinda had to research hydroelectricity and static-electricity because my oc separates the moisture particles and electrical currents in the air to create a hydroelectric pathway to direct her attacks.

I would have attempted human transmutation on a door (on account of being so damned dumb) and would have nothing removed from the body - but ADDED, just because I'm different and all. You guessed it, a doorknob on the forehead. I can shoot laser beamz with it.

Hmm, I would probably be something to do with ice.
Everyone says if I was an element or had a power or something it would have something to do with water and ice.
probably because while its snowing out, I'll be in shorts and short sleeves throwing snowballs in my own face. But it's also because I give off an icee vibe or something. Not like cold hearted, but like jagged ice shards that sparkle and stuff. That's what my friends say, anyway.

No matter how many times I've seen FMA, I haven't really wondered about it.

I kind of associate myself with water, seeing as I'm a go-with-the-flow type person. Not like "LULZ I FEEL LIKE A MANTA RAY NO0B", XD, but like a... sea turtle mixed with a german spitz(dog), XD. So... I'd guess my alchemy would either be all over the place or associated with a ceratin element. If it was all over the place, I'd probably be the Random Alchemist(has to do with my personality, too. I do most things on a whim). If it was associated with water, I have no idea... Crying Cloud Alchemist, with the irony being that I'm an optimist, XD.

The Smoke Alchemist. Plain and simple. I came up with the idea when I was watching smoke waft off a stick of incense I had burning one day. I feel like it's unique, it's beautiful, and it can potentially be very useful. It'd probably be more destructive than anything, but that's okay. It'd be fun to mess with oxidization of metal and whatnot. Plus there's the obvious asphyxiation idea. Fun fun.

Okay off-topic, i was sick today and spent the whole day readin the first 8 pages (would of gone more but the religion topic took me a lil while to read) then i realised this topic wasnt dead and got excited

I would prefer the name "The lightning rod alchemist" I would wear metal tinted gloves possibly, or use the iron in your skin and would alchemically bond the metal in the air to create a statically charged current in the air to create a lightning bolt to shock the enemy. When my blood is in the air though it is stronger due to the extra iron.

I no this is just names but i would just like to add he grew up in resembool with ed and al. Hes slightly Ishvalan, with only enough to have the eyes, and he met a young ishvalan girl who was a refugee (Lets call her Jasmine). They dated, both skilled alchemists, her specializing in sending the metal in the air into a whirlwind to create a silver wind. She did this with 2 rings each on her middle finger. They both became state alchemists, hoping to create a philosophers stone to live forever. At one point, coming home one day from an assignment, My character realised Jasmine was gone and that there was a note where to get her. He went to find her, only to find a man with a man with long green pointy hair (envy). After a long battle, I was beaten and i nearly died, but they got Jasmine. Soon i was contacted by Greed (the original). He gave me a chance to save jas. After i reached her through weeks of intel from greed and the military, i found her. Though it wasnt until the day greed was killed by wrath.

I was takin to father and he made me go to find someone who would hurt his plans, the truth. I was sent into the gate, nearly destroyed, but i found a group of 11 homunculi. The virtues. Instead of black, most dressed in white. They were still evil, but they were embodied by a virtue instead of a sin, sometimes in a bad way though. The leader (not one of the virtue) Was a woman named silvia. She was a survivor of Xerxes, and had become a human philosiper stone like hoenheim and father. I was noticed, and quickly taken from the gate by father. I told him what i knew and he sent me to a small village where i was tricked into turning all the inhabitants into a philosiphers stone. Before i did it though, i caught a glimpse of a pair of red eyes in the middle of the town. Jasmine. I ran through before the transmutation was complete, not able to save her soul, but her body. I then got her back and father tried to kill me, now that i was used up. I escaped and did the unforgivable taboo. Jasmine though, unlike believed, was inside the gate. The virtue homunculi turned into 12 and Jasmine was made one (they are brought back as certain people who embodied a specific virtue when they were killed, or reached death. But not their whole life, just the moment they died. I then lost my hands in exchange and got automail ones that amplified my alchemy. I then, after weeks of searching, knew how to reunite with jasmine and get back my body. I died in combat. I then reached the virtues, and was made one of them. Unlike most homunculi, silvia can give her's alchemy. I was able to stay in the state under an alias with the same name and abilities. I used my homunculi ability to make spikes and knives grow from my body, and my alchemic ability to spy for Silvia on the government and on Father. I currently am trying to aim how to take out silvia, keep my abilities, keep jasmine safe, and trying to work up the strength to reveal to edward the monster i am. My life long friend who thought i died in battle months before....
