Eh. I didn't really care. Although I like how he looks in the movie more just because of his ponytail. The ponytail looks good on him. (as it does on Ed :x)

I'm in the didn't like it camp! It really freaked me out to see Al dressing so much like Ed. hehe Def seemed a little 'brother complex' ish.
Plus I think it made Al seem less capable in himself. As though he needed to look like Ed to have any real effect on anything.
However, my immediate reaction to the pics (before i saw the movie) was that he was dressing like Ed to maybe maintain the appearance of the Fullmetal Alchemist, to stave off any questions etc. That would have been cool, and made more sense to me than just wanting to dress like his potentially dead brother.
Which is just... wierd...

As an Alphonse fan I can say without a doubt that what Alphonse is wearing and what Edward wore(Please be spelled right!) are two totally different things. I wish I had pictures to show for it, but I will do my best to explain...
The Shirts: The only thing similiar about the shirts is that they are black with white lining...
Edward's Shirt: Is not a botton up, it has a little metal thing at the neck that hooks the two sides together( Unless you are in the earlier years of the boy's life, then it's a zip up.) And he has a muscle like undershirt...
Alphonse Shirt: Is a botton up, completely buttons up but does shows some of the front of his neck, but not as much as Ed's...The Pants: The only thing similiar about the pants are that they are black...
Edward's Pants: Are more like a leathery-jean effect. Also they are somewhat baggy on him. Also he has a huge belt.
Alphonse's Pants: Are dress pants, they are a little baggy, but only around the ankles. The Shoes: There's nothing similiar about the shoes...
Edward's Shoes: Are big black boots with red at the bottom.
Alphonse's Shoes: Are brown and are dressy. The hair: The only time they have the same hair-due is in the movie... For some reason they decided to give Ed a ponytail instead of his usual braid... So really he's copying Al on that one.
The coats: Ok the coats are exactly the same expect for the hood... BIG DEAL!
And to reply to what was said in the first post, I really don't see anything that would make Al look like Ed... (Other then what being blood relation would make you look.)
So it is in my conclusion that Alphonse is not dressing like his brother... Only Similiar, and they did that to show the wanting to be with his brother again. (I know, they said so on the DVD)
(PS I felt really awkward writing this... Especially the pants part. /._.\ At least take it some-wat seriously. Thank you.)

I completely agree with
hisokaomi . (nice banner btw)
When I saw the movie for the first time, I fell in love with Al. During the serie, I didn't like him (to big and to metaly (if that even is word

) and at the end, his hair is weird).
But the movie changed my opinion at once.
Ed is laying down on the second place and Al is n° 1.
To conclude I like Al better with his red coat and long hair than with his short hair.
And
Mercy_Alchemist94 is completely right, there are a lot of differences between Al and his brother.

i think for him wearing the suit is like showing respect and his llove to his brother and i think he fits in it

al forgot about what happened for four years, and everyone probably told him stories about ed, so he probably really was amazed by what ed did. so al might have wanted something to remind himself of ed. i'm not sure though.

I think it was kind of "cute" with him wearing a kind of similar outfit like ed (it's not really similar i just appears to be similar!)

Well,I love Al's movie appearance. It's cool, and cute at the same time.I think the reason Al's wearing Ed's clothes is to remember him by,because Al remembers his brother, even though he lost memory of a lot of the story.Either way,I love Al's human form so much more than his armor.I've never been a big fan of suits of armor, anyway.

i didn't care, because, well, i kind of agree, it makes al look a lot like ed and makes him look more professional, but on the other hand, it makes ed look kind of sad and not flamboyant when they meet...

it really mind that al dress up in edward clothes. i think that he did that cause he was trying to relive in his brothers foot steps. and aslo i think that was so cool and cute that he did that.

I think it was another example of the no creativity nonsense that this movie represents. Sorry I'm a hater well more of a strongly disliker. I don't know I was hoping Al would come into his own, or maybe have some very subtle nod at his armor look maybe even have slicked back hair and a pony tail coming out the end kinda like the helmet a little bit.

I down-right loved it. Alphonse really looked like he was following Edward's footsteps. Besides, if Hiromu Arakawa had to make an entirely new costume design for Alphonse and it was like amazing, then that would be a waste if it was only for show in one movie. It makes more common sense for Alphonse to wear something similar to his older brother's outfit, and I think that had fit his character anyway since he's already similar to Edward.

I think at that point when Al lost his memories, he was told all these great stories of their adventures and what of Ed did. It's Al's homage to Ed and following in his footsteps. Maybe a bit too similar, but the general idea behind it was nice.

I thought it was cute how Al dressed like Ed.. probably to remind him of his brother, and to convince him that Ed
is alive somewhere, somehow.

I liked Al's new look, though I also thought it was Ed at first.
I thought Ed had crossed dimensions or something. XD
I also like that Al has a hairstyle similar to how it was when he was young, with the hair curved on the side more.
Also I thought the clothes were a bit different, I wouldn't say an exact copy.
But I wished Ed would have kept the braid so he looked more similar to his appearance in the series. so they'd compliment each other more, course Ed might have stuck out in Germany. XD

I thought Al, wearing Ed's clothes, looked AWESOME!!!!! In my opinion, Al looks so cute wearing Ed's old clothes (If thats what they are). I think Al should have kept the ponytail! He looked so much better than he did at the end of the movie! I think Ed's clothes suited him. Made him look.... much more older and mature? Much better than his short hair and normal clothes! XD

But I wished Ed would have kept the braid
I'm sure he didn't because he couldn't. His new arm in the other world isn't as functional as automail, so he probably couldn't tie the braid.
I forgot what I voted for back then, but I'm on the "I like his new look w/ the ponytail" boat now. xD

I totally loved it! When I saw him for the first time in this red outfit it was like: 'Wooow! He looks awesome!'
Every other time when I watched the movie I felt the same way. His movie design was breathtaking and his outfit made him to look like Ed... What for me was great!
Do I have to add that his ponytail is ultra sweet? I sipmly love Al's design from CoS!

I loved Al in the movie! It's what settled Al as my favorite character, along with Riza, Roy and Ed! (Not the outfit, mind you, but him in general.) He looked perfectly normal in Ed's old coat... he had a goal to accomplish, and that red coat symbolized that goal.
I also heard (think it must have been in the movie commentary) that when Kugimiya-san was about to give her lines for Al in the movie, she thought it was Ed at first. And when she found out it was really Al, she started crying. I thought that was SO touching!

It was like seeing Ed but in the form of his brother. But that's the thing, Al's not Ed, he's Al. And with the ponytail, you could tell he was trying a little too hard.
Then again like people have said, they were close, the red coat must have reminded him of his brother (though I didnt know he had memories of the time they travelled thus wouldnt even remember the coat...?).

You never know, maybe it was all Winry's fault or something! Someone obviously gave him that outfit to wear.. someone who knew that it was Ed's old clothing... I don't think it has to do with Al 'trying' too hard to be like his brother... in a way he is trying to be closer to Ed, but definitely not trying to be Ed.
And maybe the staff just likes screwing with our minds and making us all think: "Omg Ed! No... not Ed?" lol!

I really disliked his outfit. It just did NOT fit the character at all!
He's copying Edward! That annoyed me. I saw him as a wannabe in that movie. Seriously, the transmutation circle on his hands? He just wants to copy his brother.
It annoyed me throughout the whole movie.

^nah . the outfit was superb . i think the main reason for him to wear sumthn like that was to keep his goals in his head all the time ..and we all know wat his goal was..

I think he borrowed his brother's outfit because he missed his brother and I guess wanted to keep his memory alive.
people do that sometimes. like if someone they love dyed they'll borrow their clothes because the clothes smell like the dead person.
but I never got that. people don't really have a smell unless they use perfume or someting....
and ed wasn't really dead but he could have been.
but still!! <33

well I thought it looked amazing on him but also agree that he should have had a blue instead of red coat to make it more original, as I said in a previous post but that got edited out but I wasnt actually taking credit for the drawings just the fact that I changed the coats blue but I'll say where I got the pictures this time k here is what it would look like if al had a blue instead of a red coat...:

I don't know who drew that just that I didn't draw it I found it on photobucket.com but whoever drew that is a very good drawer ^^
he looks better in a blue coat than a red I think.
