Hughes death just felt too fast to really be sad. I mean his death (which came out of nowhere btw) and funeral took all of like 5-6 minutes while Nina's was basically the last 15 minutes of the episode. Greeds wasn't really that sad, other then Ed's reaction. Overall, I feel more tension and sadness was put into getting to know Nina and her death, while the others really came out from left field or wasn't really sad in itself.

Hughes, Greed, Marta, and Nina's deaths are the most tragic to me so far.
Hughes was (and still is) one of my favorite characters, Greed turned out to be pretty cool, Marta kicked MEGA ass, and Nina was just a sweet little girl. I miss them all,
Ed reaction when Greed died though, I was like 'Holy crap....holy crap...

.' I couldn't even say anything, I was speechless, literally. I have siblings who can testify it.

I thought that Hughes death was the worst. It is definatly the reactions of the alive characters that makes a death. It wouldn't have been nearly as sad if Elysia and Roy weren't crying for Hughes, or Ed wasn't crying for Greed or Nina. Near the end of the series the deaths get even more depressing in my opinion, so be prepared (bring kleenex).

Hughes death made me most upset because the plot was centered around him for some episodes, and even though Nina´s death was really sad I was not that upset about it, I mean she was transmuted together with Alexander and she was not human anymore. but it is a strange way of argumenting about Nina not being 100% human....

In my opionon Huhges death was the most depressing because he had always been there. You got used to his presense, and then he died. All the others were depressing, but Huhges was a main charactor and in a lot of episodes.
Greed death was also really depressing...I mean sure he was a great charater. But it was Ed's reaction to having to kill him that we'll freaked me out.

Yeah, I was seriously freaked out when Ed killed Greed.
For some reason I didn't think he'd do it...
And Hughes's death, too... I really didn't see that one coming.

Maes Huges' death shocked the hell out of me. i mean, Greed? C'mon, hes a homunculous, its in Ed's job description to kill him. Nina was too adorable and had too much screen time to be around someone so powerful (tucker), who was under that much stress (tucker), and also, to be such a quickly introduced character. Huges actually cared for and was helping the Elrics, i think as much as Mustang was. When Hughes died, Ed & Al lost a great behind the scenes help I, for one, never saw it coming.

I think that Nina's death was not only the saddest, but also the most important, when considering early into the show. Nina was found by Scar in that horrid body and it made him realize (well, he THOUGHT it did anyways) why his brother gave him the symbols on his arm. He thought his arm markings were supposed to use to kill state alchemists in the beginning.
But in the end, he discovered that it wasn't about killing state alchemists, but to use it instead to use the trapped dead souls inside of it to create the philosopher's stone.
Hughes got to me the most - I mean he was like the father figure and just and all around good guy. I was beating the seat when Mustang wasn't at he office to receive Hughes phone call.
Nina was tragic as well, but I wasn't as attached to her as Hughes. It was VERY tragic though, her being so young, and to have her trust violated like that.
Greed, I didn't really feel anything fo Greed, but seeing Ed's face, that was moving.

Uh, what about...? You know...? The other person who died...? T__T *is not going to say it in fear of spoiling people*
Even though Hughes is my favorite character out of those 3, I'd have to say that Nina's death was the most tragic. Hearing Ed cry just ripped my heart apart, and he was so full of turmoil that he couldn't save her...ugh, so sad.
Then again, Hughes's death affected a lot more people than the other 2...but I still say that Nina's was the most heart-breaking.

Nina's death, although definitely sad and moving, is not the most tragic. Think about it; She's a Chimera that can talk. If ever discovered, she'd be a lab animal for the rest of her life, which I imagine wouldn't have lasted much longer. When Scar felt her, he register that she was in constant pain. As much as I hate to admit it, it was a mercy killing.
Greed's death, although, touched by a spark of redemption, was also far from tragic. For almost 200 years, the man had done evil, and it was his turn for judgement. Had Ed not killed him, I doubt he would have attempted to reconcile himself.
Hughes, however, was definitely moving. You grow to love him, his loyalty to his friends and family, his skill and motivation. Everything about him. His death in the line of duty certainly draws tears.
Are we forgetting poor Martel (I think it was Ep 40)? I liked her character, and it made me wanna reach into the screen and throttle the life outta Bradley when he kills her in Al's armor. And Al had to go thru it all- having her stabbed while she was still inside his armor. That episode left my jaw hanging...
But yes, the deaths of Nina and Maes were moving, too. Such good people, and Nina being so young and innocent, that's my choice of the three. I was pissed when Greed died, tho. I was hopin' to see him slap Ed around a bit more and live to fight another day.
I don't know about you guys, but I stared at the screen for a
long time after Marta died. I never dremed she'd die like she would in the manga. That's when I started to hate Pride.
I was seriously shaking when he said "You're snake-like moves won't work on me, chimera. I have the ultimate eye." What, it was creepy! It would have been more moving if I didn't know beforehand who he was

Definitely Hughes. Yes, Nina's death was horrific, and her father deserved to be castrated and hung, but the scene where his daughter is crying over his grave had me crying. I do not usually cry over characters from a show, and that was the first FMA episode I ever saw. So touching.

Hughes death definatly went for the emotional jugual...Danm the Elycia...so sad and so cute*Holds back man tears*
Scars was pretty crule;
Having one arm blown off, shot several times, amputating the other arm then vapourising himself. In the end didn't that sufering make up for the "bad" he did?
Ninas was sad aswell but we never got as close to her as the others.
Greeds was rough but heroic. He knew he was gonna die but he didn't flee.Instead he "let" Ed kill him and then told him how to kill the others which is a pretty decent thing to do.I wish we could have seen his reaction to hi 3 mian chimeras dieing.I bet he was somewhat upset even if it was because "They were his property"

Poor poor Hughes! that was soooo sad!
I cried when he died, I cried during the funeral, I cried when Elycia started with her "Don't bury papa!' and again when Roy was crying. (There's nothing more sad than seeing a guy cry.)

So Basicly I cried throughout 2 eps.
On the side: I did feel sorry for Nina, but it was really for the best.

Hmms, let`s see..
Greed`s death wasn`t too tragic, as he stated himself that he wanted to die so he could be free, though it was very moving to see how Ed reacted to it.. I felt really sorry for him.
Hughes` death didn`t affect me too much, because I knew it was gonna happen (read the manga before I watched that ep..), and it all happened so fast. Although his daughter asking why he was being buried almost made me cry..
However, Nina.. OMG. I watched this ep before I read the Manga, so I was totally shocked when I found out Tucker had transmuted her and Alex.. It made me feel so, so sad and horrified at what he had done. Then, even though Scar did put her out of her misery by killing her, it was even more sad when Ed and Al found that blood splatter on the wall. Seeing Ed cry like that really affected me.. And it was still sad at the beginning of the next ep, when he kept on clapping and touching the wall to try and bring her back somehow..

So overall, Nina`s death was the most tragic for me.

Definitely Hughes. I thought that he was way more lovable than Nina, and definitely Greed. He really was always trying to help people, which makes it more unfortunate than nina, who, though it was not her own fault, was neither really helping nor hurting people, and Greed, who was only in it for himself. nina and Greed, too, were inhuman, and one can almost justify putting nina out of her misery...
But Elicia asking how Daddy's going to work if he's in a hole was the saddest.

I voted for Nina's death....I know Hughes was really really REEEEAAAALLLLLLLLLLYYYY sad and all, but his life was on the line because he was a state alchemist...its what he did for a living...and i know it wasnt fair to kill him off, im not saying it was!!!!! I'm just saying Nina was a poor innocent child who had a jackass as a father, and did nothing wrong but try and live. Hughes's death made me cry and all cause i know he really wasn't doing anything wrong and he was such a family man, but he knew when he became a state alchemist he would put his life at risk on a daily basis...poor Nina didnt have a choice, she was born into it, with a jerky father....pook kid

heh heh heh...i fell asleep during the episode when Hughes died. i was mad at myself for that. but, i was also moved by ed's REACTION to greed, and Nina's death than the actual death of them. you might think i'm cold hearted, but that's for you to decide...

Hughes was NOT a state alchemist. He even referred to Roy and other alchemists as freaks once. He was just an officer in the military who was in charge of the Investigations Department. This merely adds to the sadness of Hughes' death; he WASN'T an alchemist, so perhaps he shouldn't have even been involved....
Anyways...
I voted for Hughes' death, because this poll is asking for the most
moving which is quite different from sad. I found Hughes' death the most moving because he died trying to get his friend to the top, and was loyal to Roy until the grim end.

Wow, this was a hard decision for me...
Nina's death was definitely a terrible death. It was so sad! STUPID TUCKER!!!
Greed's death was moving because he told Ed how to kill a homunculus, and Ed's reaction to his death was sad...Greed was actually one of the good/nice homunculi!!! Greed was so cool!
I chose Maes Hughes because... he was HUGHES!!!! He was so nice!!! He loved his family so much!!!!

*sniffle* And the funeral was so sad...

Maes had a death that was not to be forgotten, but I feel most sorry for Nina. Not only was she a victim, but I was on the point of tears (no, really) when I saw he being killed by Scar.
That is not to say I was affected by Hughes dying. I just feel Nina's to be more dramatic, because of her circumstances.

My vote goes to Hughes.
As horrible as it sounds.. I don't really remember crying ( it did still make me feel sad though!) when Scar made the Nina chimera go kablooey ( and I didn't even expect her death ^^; )
..although I've only recently found a reason to hate it for the fact that Nina and Alexander's souls *don't* go up to heaven as everyone first thought..
They go into Scar's right arm instead..
And the only time they *probably* do go to the other side, is when Tucker uses Al in that transmutation to ironically, get his daughter back..or when Al brings Ed back.. then their souls would of finally been at peace.
Hughes's death on the other hand.. ( I knew he was going to die anyway, because loads of people had signitures honoring his memory on another website I go to, so that spoiled it for me ^^; ) made me cry like a baby.
He's a character that's just so likeable.. you can't help but feel drawn in by him..and then of course, when the inevitable happens..
It just hits you hard in the face.. and that's when emotion sets in.
It's also the way *that* he died that makes it even more upsetting o.o`
