Densetsu_kid:"Well of course they are not. Every human has a soul and they do not possess one, therefore they are not human."

Actually, the 'without a soul' thing is a matter of great debate, apparently stemming from ambiguities in translation. Though the anime appears to claim that homunculi have no soul (this being the main indication that they cannot be classified as 'human') I have read it argued ([topic="http://www.fullmetal-alchemist.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6661&st=330"]Top post here[/topic]) that when it comes to mentions of homunculi supposedly 'lacking a soul', and Wrath gives his little speech, he could *either* be saying homunculi don't possess a soul at all, or that they - and this is the questionable part - do not possess the soul of the person they were intended to become through transmutation: i.e. they could possess a soul, however corrupted, of their own. The first interpretation gives weight to the common fandom belief that anime!homunculi have no souls and therefore aren't 'human' in the traditional sense of the term. However, factoring in the latter possibility makes the topic a lot more uncertain (and, for me, opens up some lovely fanfic possibilities).

I think only the ability to think dosent make them human , you need to have a heart too !

They have all the normal internal organs...

I do think they are Human, I think they are humans without soul.. so maybe if a human attaches a soul into their body they would be completely humans!
But since their mind is what it was when they were humans (since they remember all that stuff), probably the soul would mess up with the mind so is just not possible!! =(

ppl don't live forever or turn their body into something else so no. rolleyes.gif

Same issue as cloning human. So I will say Homunculus is human they too. They're able to live as normal human, but since they won't age. After a period of times, they might feel depressed.

But beside all. If they kill other human, they're not human. They're murder.

The slicer brother, sure they WAS human. Yet, they can't be call as human (what Ed did) because they're murderer...

In my opinion, yes, homunculi are soulless (figuratively speaking, because yes, they might actually have souls, but not souls like ours), and are missing that essence that makes humans...well, human. Sure, they look like humans, but they're not...however, as they're illusions of the people they were supposed to be, they can have these "relapses"...you know, when they think of their past and the persons they were supposed to become, and for even a moment, feel and think almost exactly like humans can.

I myself think that the homunculi are human in all the ways that really matter. They just fall short in some way that can't really be detremined. I think they do have souls. Merly a small fragment of a soul however. Enough to sustain a body but not enough for any alchemy. Who knows maybe with enough Pholosipher's stone they might be able to complete there souls.

I think, that given time, they would be acting like the humans they were meant to replace. Lust and Sloth were probably on the brink of just doing that. As she was fighting "her sons" she was trying to prove she was fake. "because no real mother would try to hurt thier children"
Lust was trying to remember who she was and who she was in love with.
same with wrath, and to a certain extent (if you squint) even envy. I 'm not sure about Gluttony or greed though.

here's how I think it might go:

monster -->monstr/human---> almost human----> human(?)----- overload/ blacken as the 'sin'.

They are human in the sense of what it is that they want, but they have a somewhat inhumane way of going about getting it.
Chibi_Girl29
NO ¨!They've got no... how do you say... spirit or something...
Plasmajosh
No, just the way they think about things, they plan things to go their way and understand how things work, but when a human would say(like Ed) - "there's no way that i could do that" - they felt that there is no price too big to pay as long as its not them. SPOLIER - When The homunculi want Ed to sacrafice the prisoners for the Stone, they feel that it's necessary and have no second thoughts about the process, while all along Ed is doubting and reluctant to go along with it - even though it means he could save his brother.

Kind of like a human with no fellings of remorse or regret.

i consider homonculi to be human

they are composed of the same materials needed to make a human body
the only thing different if their philosopher stone that acts as a nucleus.

they think and use their brains. they are practically humans in terms of body and soul.

id say the homunculi are an evolution of human beings
