Why does Envy hate Ed so much I know he hates Ed's dad, but why else? I DON'T GET IT!!!

my guess is that ed looks like hoenhiem...al looks like..well, al...and the resemblence fuels the hatred. i would assume that if al was in his human body, envy would want him dead too, but since he is a walking suit of armor, he really doesn't care. But envy knows that al is ed's lil brother....he refers to them as "the elric brothers" from day 1.

And remember, his first face to face encounter with the Elric brothers, Al was being used as a hostage; Envy only had Edward to beat up on. He does act rather cruel to Alphonse later on, though. (Won't spoil it.) Not with quite the same venom as Edward.

Maybe it's just some old fashioned rule about ancient vendettas that you have to blame the eldest/first born?

Nah...I still think that it's because ed looks like his dad and al looks like a hunk of armor. Though you make a good point--Envy IS rather cruel towards AL in the end....but he is not nearly as horrible as he is towards Ed. But....you know...there is some stuff that you're just not gonna be able to find out unless you keep watchin' the show....

Envy was Edward and Alphonse's bigger brother, BUT, he drank murcury poision and died. In a retarted attempt to bring 'Envy' back, HOEinheim created the hommunclues, ENVY! Then he threw him aside like a friggin, old, wash rag! Now, he hates the Elrics beacause of such crappyness. (i think there is more to this story but i dont kno it. sorry mispelling things but i did cap "hoe" for a reason *wink wink* and i dont envy's real name...)

[spoiler]Yes, Envy is Ed and Al's brother (And yes, he knows Al is Ed's brother. I think it's obvious) and he hates them because Hoenheim sees them as his sons but he doesn't see Envy like this. Hoenheim tried to resurrect his dead son Hoju (That's a name fans give him. We don't know his true one) who died because of mercury poisoning (The rumor even says he killed himself) but he, of course, failed the transmutation and abandonned his creation, Envy. That's why this one hates him and his sons right now. He's envious of Ed and Al.[/spoiler]

It looks like it was rushed (as if they wrote it before they got an attack of conscience or something) and it was written with VERY bad grammar, but the post was coherent enough to make the point that you posted in your spoiler. Granted, your spoiler got to the point much better, Lux, than the previous post, I was under the assumption that "Flame Alchemist Obsessor" (and other people) hasn't seen the entire series, and so to post the entire thing without the spoiler tags, REGARDLESS of how badly you word it, wasn't (in my opinion) within the ethical reasoning of the question that was being presented. He just died from mercury poisoning, which to my knowledge, isn't deadly by ingestion; it passes through the system and is dangerous in inhaled vaporous form. It was likely an accident. It's rather common to die of some form of poisioning from your environment, and judging that Envy was Hoenheim's son, there were probably many chemicals he lived in close proximity with. Maybe he just walked in Daddy's lab at the wrong time or something. [/spoiler]

It's [] content [], and you put word spoiler in the first [], then word spoiler with "/" in front, like /spoiler in the ending [].

Or, try this: Type what you want to contain in the spoiler tags, highlight it, then click on B you see above the reply composing space, as if you are making the highlighted part BOLD.
Then, erase "b" from each [ ] and replace it with word spoiler.
It sounds like a strange way of doing it, but that works as well.

That's an easy way of doing it...it's a shame I didn't think of that.

His Father always had his nose in research, and his Mother had run off with her new 'fling'. ( Greed ) So When he's around Eighteen he got a little desperate, and went into Daddies lab and stole some Mercury. He took it up into his room, and was odviously hit by its fumes. O.o; When Daddy noticed it was missing Envy Dear was already sick. ( Odviously from the murcury poisening ) Instead of taking him to a Doctor to get it treated or whatever Hoinhiem, and Dante let it sit. In return Envy died, and his parents ignored it. (kinda) Then out of guilt or just testing Hoinhiem brought Envy back to the Humunculus we know. ( and I love O.o ) Anyways as for the name I do belive his name was Edward when he was Human. He's a good 400 years older then he looks though, so are Dante and Hoinhiem. [/spoiler]

I don't think so. In the manga they all seem to be created by the father and not by failed human transmutation. Oh! unless.......

As for the mercury poisioning. Mercury was used for many things long ago and one thing people used to do with it was ingest it for a variety of reasons such as a health tonic and to cure illness. Envy could of died from mercury poisioning in a variety of ways.

Oh, and just in case anyone is wondering, the theory the Envy killed himself with mercury is a fannon theory. No reference is ever made in the anime that he died by suicide.
