Although I'm not as active in the church community as I once was I do believe in god. Now I was baptized Lutheran but I went to Sunday school at Catholic churches my whole life... so I'm guessing I'm catholic. huh.gif right?

Whichever doctrine you believe determines what you are...at least as far as I know.

Well I really don't know the difference in beliefs... I should do some research.

I'm religious, sort of. I believe in God (a Christian one) but I don't go to church, and I don't think that people of other faiths are going to burn in hell or anything. I don't think going to church or following a certain religion makes you a good person, it's how you treat others that matters.

You could say that if I really didnt believe in God. But since i do it doesnt matter. biggrin.gif

Can you blame me for having the impression that this wasn't the case? You didn't seem particularly enthusiastic about it in your other post.

No I dont blame you. I realised that i didnt give that many details. biggrin.gif

No disrespect to anybody who has faith in a certain belief. But the way I see it, religions are just a way of telling people there is hope in life if you believe and worship in a certain god. To me I don't think so. If you can have that much belief in something that's spiritual and told by a priest, why can't you just have that same amount of belief in yourself. If you can believe in something that you don't know if he, she or it is trully there, than why can't you take that exact same faith into yourself? Knowing that you are flesh and bone. I'm certain that if you do have that same faith in yourself, that you will prosper in life as you wanted it to be. Believe in thine self and prosper.

I'm an agnostic. It's awful because I'm an agnostic and they're trying to force me to be Catholic, which has got to be one of the most boring and strict religions there is. ><

I still haven't sorted out whether or not I believe the whole 'God' thing. I'd like to believe that there's a heaven, or some sort of peaceful afterlife, although I don't like to think that if you sin you go to hell. It's also strange for me to think that there's an all-knowing and all-powerful being up there that, essentially, has put us down here to do his bidding. That doesn't sound right to me.

And I figure that if I decide that there IS a God, I'm not going to follow a set religion. I'll pray and stuff, but I don't like the idea that my religious ed classes has put into my head. Basically that idea is, "You can pray whenever you want and God will listen, but it only really counts if you pray in church". I hate church. It's boring, it's pointless, and they keep repeating the same thing. I'll pray on me own time, thank you very much, and I'll set my own religious rules about what's good and bad.

Religion can be broken down into two basic parts: philosophy and ritual/superstition.

The philosophical element, I can very much accept, because it's based on reason and logic, and there's room for healthy debate about it.

The ritual and superstition, I reject wholeheartedly.

I'm not an atheist, but I don't subscribe to any religion.

i agree with bacon, on The philosophical element, but im only a little religios, very close to athiest, but not there yet..........

I think that would make you agnostic then...

^ That site is so scary. They used to have this little gif of Matthew Shepard (a homosexual who was beaten to death in 1998) burning in hell, and it would scream when you scrolled your mouse over it.

Someone made a whole thread about this site a few months ago, and I still can't quite decide if it's a joke or not. Some of it's pretty normal, but there are some scary parts, like plans to go to Africa looking for Pterosaurs to prove evolution wrong, or launching a huge cross into orbit so everyone can see it. The 4Kidz part is especially funny. I really think it's a joke, but it's so elaborate.

Yeah, but if God is so called a higher power, so is his/her other half which would be Satan. Without evil there can be no good, and It's amazing how they blame the horrible stuff that humans do on Satan. Like God doesn't have anything to do with it. Believing in a higher power will never change the way humans act. With or without that belief in a higher power, people will be people, and that will never change.

....You must be just as ignorant then... *tries to ignore massive spelling errors* They said they were Prebyterian (first of all, they spelled their own religion incorrectly), and compared it to as a similar yet different enitity as Christianity and Catholicism. Catholicism and Presbyterian are both branches of Christianity... But Presbyterian is one of many branches of the Protestant part of Christianity. Catholicism is christian, but not protestant because... just look up the Protestant Reformation if you are really interested dry.gif Anyway, it was just a really stupid statement to make. Like Bacon said, a lot of people are very ignorant as to what their faith is about.

WTF, did you not just read my bloody explanation? PRESBYTERIAN is a Protestant denomination, you dolt. As in a seperate branch from the general tree of Protestantism. You are only proving yourself to be more ignorant of your alleged beliefs, which apparently you know nothing about.

Edit: Seeing as how you completely edited your post, they are similar because like I said, it is a denomination of Protestantism. It has some similarities because they are all apart of Christianity. *you must have spelled Presbyterian about 8 different ways by now*

I don't mean to be rude or to be ingorant to my on believes. But you guys are missing my point. Cathlicism, Cristianity, and Protistent were all made on the same concept. I was asking that as a question. But my opinion on that would be... I don't think so. Once there gone there gone, but look at the bright side, there memory will always remain in your heart. Death is a hard thing to take but it's bound to happen, and there is no coming back from that.
