A translation,
Chasing after the kidnapped Al, Ed headed towards Central. Since he met again the Tringham(sp?) brohters, Ed is at the former 5th Lab. He gets to learn the location of a huge lab associated with the "philosopher's stone".

What a long week this was. The teaser from 48 was just mean.
Tringham brothers again?
Looks like we will get some more of Full Metal Archer.

Why would he be hard for Izumi to beat? I mean, wouldn't he be the worst thing to send against an alchemist? Just transmute his arm or leg into a cage or pointy object to impale him. He's supplying the materials for her.
Will Winry be in this episode? If the dog is shown, Winry can't be far off.
Ooo. can't wait to find out who the mysterious Ed look alike is.

Is it me or it seems like Al is missing a bigger part..?

Perhaps Hagane no Archer has a few other tricks to pull off first. ^^ It'd be boring to see Izumi just wave her hands and defeat him...
Oh, and yeah, it does look like Al has been used again...

I find it amusing that every other episode or so, there's a mysterious "Ed look-alike." ^^; I wanted to post about this in the 48 thread, but it didn't work. Anyway, here are some possibilities as to who he is. Some were mentioned in the 48 thread. (This is from the preview btw)
1. Envy's true form
2. Hoenheim's body when he was younger
3. Ed with his arm back
4. Ed the way he looks behind the gate
5. Some sort of flashback, although I have no idea of what
6. Russel
7. Wrath, after he steals Ed's body. (*dodges flying objects*)
8. Envy making a bad attempt to look like Ed.
9. Al (highly unlikely)
I think it's Russel, although I'm not sure. The shirt looks like something only Russel would wear somehow. Maybe he straightened his hair and got contacts? ^^; Or it could be Ed on the other side of the gate, the way he would have been if that incident never happened to begin with. We'll see.
Has anyone noticed how in the preview, Al's "head" falls or something like that? Maybe he gets his body back and discards the armor?
Also, I wonder what happens with Rose. Ed did say he might not see her again, and usually, when he says that, it's true. I hope Dante didn't take her body.
I'm also worried about what will happen to Roy. The whole episode 48 was named after Ed's "Sayonara," so I wonder if that means something will happen to him. He'd better be all right! -.-
These previews raise soooo many questions. Like what else was up with the 5th lab, what happens to Al, and is Hoenheim alive? And just what's the deal with Archer, anyway? This is all getting too confusing. Anyway, I think too much, don't I? ^^;;;
Random note: The title is "Tobira no Mukou e," same as the second ending. "Tobira" literally means door, not gate. I wonder if the theme of this episode has anything to do with the second ending. The lyrics were pretty interesting. (Again, I think too much.

A little random, but . . . that dress doesn't really suit Roze, and is Den going to fight with a little beetle!? I think it's a beetle anyway . . . nonetheless, I want to see Den in action!

I'm gonna ask something really stupid now, I just know it, but what the freck is Envy holding?

I thought it was Wrath at first, but now that I've looked at it more closely it has the distinct form of a vase.

Hehe, Den's chances of actually winning seem pretty slim. Ah~ if only he could do alchemy.

I wouldn't mind some Den action either. Gives him the chance to show Black Hayate he (is Den a he?) can be just as cool as the little pipsqueak in the manga.

Well...What should I say after finish to see the ep 49...
The predictions by many people here is correct. therefore ,
there are not so many new clue about the riddles.
I will wait one more week to get them.
in London, I could see some zeppelins at the final moment of this ep.
It's too early to say what is the meaning in its attack.
Anyway, I could enjoy a quite long time of phillosopical conversation
between Ed and Dante. The meaning of death might be an important
theme toward the end of this story.

at first in London , Hoenheim said to Ed (looking guy) as
"Edward-kun" and later Hoenheim awered that
the mind of "Edward-kun" changed to "Edward who is his son" and
he asked "Are you my son Edward?"
This means (in London) their relationship is not a father and son.
Then who is the first "Edward-kun"? His looking is quite close to "Ed"'s.
Who is "Edward-kun" in London? Is(Are) there different Edward(s)
in diffrent place and time?
This is the newest riddle from this episode.

I am extremely disappointed at this episode... or rather, I suppose, this entire series.
As it turns out, the world the FMA characters were living in is an Alternate Reality of the Real World, so it's 1916 Sept2nd during WW1 in both the FMA-world and the Real World, and the German Zeppelins are attacking London... -____-
This is the 'big plot twist' that's going to 'bring everything together.'

Ok, let me rephrase this...
They have TWO EPISODES to kill the remaining homunculi, defeat Dante, explain to Ed and Al Dante's involvement IN the story, explain the real world and the other side of the gate, wrap up things in the military - Roy's Scenario and Armstrong's Scenario, finish Izumi vs. Archer, not to mention put resolution to Wrath's situation regarding the Mother [note: The reason why I say this is because they've been kicking his confusion around as a character developement tool for a while now so it'd be stupid to not show his resolution or just plain end to it], and wrap up the Philospher's Stone and Al scenario.
... this is why there's a movie.

I though the "hakenkreuz" were used for the party of an "evil" guy that was named Chancelor of Germany in 1933 (or 1936) by Hindenburg so I guess 1916 is a bit early to see the "Hakenkreuz"(or Swastika)...Well you are German but during the WW1, the symbol we see on the zeppelins are those of the Kaiser Wilhelm II of Prussia, correct me if I am wrong...maybe it is the fnasubs translations of Daisoto to "Fuhrer" that is confusing.

I'm not losing faith just yet, but throwing all these bizarre plot twists at you at the very end of the series means that the writers either smoked some goooooood hash, or just couldn't figure out a way to end it otherwise without making it totally cliché and predictable.

Is this the first time we see Gluttony's (huge) ass?
I had always assumed Al was gonig to die long ago. But my crack fueled ideas never seem to turn out correct.
It seems more and more likely the show will end without finishing everything up and let the movie tie all the loose ends together. Is Archer really going to come back and "get resolved" in the last 2 episodes?

Unfortunately I also think we'll have to wait for the movie to tie up loose ends. And even if said loose ends are tied up
well, using a movie to finish what should have been finished in the episodes seems cheap. I have much more respect for a series that can stand alone, and whose movie+oav appendices are merely nice bonuses.

What kind of tricks? If you're talking about all the grandstanding and swashbuckling that's been going on in the past few chapters, I think I see what you mean, though admittedly I and the other 1937629176394912 Roy/Riza fangirls have been getting fantastic kicks out of 37-39. In terms of general plot the manga seems more cohesive and expansive than the anime, and there are no German zeppelins. (So far?)

This was the WORST Episode EVER!!!
Special Effect AnimeBefore we can even talk about the plot going to hell in a hand basket. What was up with the spinning anime & distorted views of Ed & Dante? It looked like a surrealist on crack. Even if the subliminal message is about another dimension, they should have left the special effects alone.
Plot???Why did Archer run away from the soliders when they started shooting at him and his crew? He's RobArcher. His mouth is a gun but he runs like he is throwing paperclips at the his opponents.
The Mighty Gluttony knocks over a lamp on the floor and no fire.
Envy stops Wrath from using Alchemy by putting his foot on his arm?
I am at a loss. I have been hanging in here with the series from the beginning. I dont see any hope for a happy ending, sane ending or reasonable ending.

I mean, what kind of irks me about FMA is how disposable everyone is. I mean, I guess it's realistic, but... eh, I hate getting attached to characters and then having them die. It makes me crazy. And the recent chapters have been pulling that kind of tease like "omg!!!! rizas dead except not" "omg!!!! havocs dead except maybe" "omg!!!! lust is ded" "omg!!!!!!11onetwo" etc. :/
