SPOILERS:

Lust "defeated" Roy then went off attempt to kill Hawkeye and Alphonse. When Lust told Hawkeye that Roy and Havoc were dead, Hawkeye went beserk and started shooting all her bullets into Lust. Lust recovered then try to kill Hawkeye, Al stepped in and defended Hawkeye. However when Lust almost "kill" Al, Roy came to the rescue and blasted Lust away with a lighter (!?). After some serious blasting, Lust was killed by Roy.

Now I hope Havoc will survive.... At least Arakawa sensei hasn't confirm his death yet.... *fingers crossed*

in page no. 240/page 14 Envy mentions Pride... it's like pride is talking to them by telepathy... hmmm... is pride about to be revealed too?

and apparently, this is also Barry the chopper's last chapter. well, it was fun having him around.

anyway, looks like Roy and co. have almost discovered the headquarters of the homonculi. if they weren't caught off guard, and if they only knew what they were up against, they wouldn't have ended up so battered like this... and they ALMOST found out about wrath.

I also didn't get the idea about Barry's body... (saw the raw chapter) What the thing was he holding in his hand?

i think what you're asking is that rectangular plate with that circular circle that barry's body scratched off, right? that what barry's blood seal that contains his soul, the same as Al's. now that he scratched it off, both body and soul died. well, that's how i understood it though.

I see now. I just couldn't understand it, because I though Barry's body had already been chopped.

Uh... just wondering (if it's allowed) where you guys are getting all the newer chapters... (doesn't this site only serve up to ch 32?)

First post here but I have to say after reading chapter 39

Roy should wander around with his shirt open looking angry more often!

Barry won the fight against his body, but he hasn't chopped/ killed off his body yet. I think he was about to do that when Lust came and chopped up his current blood seal body.

*rereads the the post and realizes how confusing it is*

Erm...Maybe this would be better. 66 won the fight against Barry, but even though he won, 66 didn't kill Barry...yet. When he was about to chop up Barry, Lust came and chopped up 66...

we're waiting for Evil Genius, the scanlator, to release the next few chapters (bryantq prefers EG's over yebyosh... dunno why though, EG's scanlations aren't as well defined as yebyosh and have typos almost everywhere). Besides, the manga isn't licensed yet so it's still ok to post links for them.

yep, barry's armor got chopped off by Lust. but barry the armor thought he killed barry the body. in the end, barry the body found the blood seal w/c killed them both. i think it means that the body cannot live w/o the original soul, now that the soul is gone, the body has finally ceased to function.

Yeah, that's the way I see it too. The body and the soul are still connected, even if there's another soul in the body.

Was it just me, or was blood-array Roy strangely hot?

It wasn't just the array that was hot!

um....can anyone translate the stuff that riza said when she knew about the "death of roy"??

Riza shouted "Kisama!" and started firing.

The literal translation of "kisama" would be "Why you!"

"Kisama" is more like "Damn you!" or some other cussing of that nature...

Kisama is a really rude way of saying "you". So, it's more like a curse, and often translated as "you bastard" or something similar.
In some series characters sometimes use "kisama" instead of anata/omae/etc to show extremely disrespect to the one they are speaking to.
(Or so I think...)

Yes, it's true. Scar often says kisama when speaking to State Alchemists.

Really? I thought his speeches were quite polite!

Depends how you see it. For a guy like Scar, I guess you could say he's polite... but if others use the same type of speech, they'd be considered very rude.

ok, back to the topic...

question, since lust revealed her philosopher's stone that was on her chest, does that mean that the philosopher's stone of the other homonculi are where their ouroboros tattoos are or also on the chest in place of the heart?

here's the thing... remember when Ling sliced gluttony in half? shouldn't he have seen or sliced gluttony's p. stone by then since, being sliced straight in the middle, he should've seen it. if it was in the place of the heart and since gluttony's ouroborus is on his tongue, then Ling should have sliced it too in the process, but it wasn't.

I was thinking about that too. My guess is that because Ling was looking straight ahead when he sliced him, and Gluttony "pieced" himself back together quickly, Ling didn't see it.

Um, thats an interesting question... .
Wether it is in his chest (the "heart") or his tongue, it should had been sliced. Personally, I think it's in his chest. The stone is... a little big for his tongue o.o
Kasumi might be right: Ling simply didn't see it. But it's still weird... .

I don't know, Gluttony's tongue is pretty thick, so I do believe the P.Stone is in the tongue. There's got to be a reason the Ouroboros tattoo is in difference places for each homunculi, right? Well, that's what I think anyway.

I was just looking over the "Ling sliced Gluttony in half" part. Things happened too quickly, Ling was looking ahead, it's highly unlikely that Ling saw anything.

What is questionable though, is that homunculi dies if the P.Stone is destroyed. From the looks of it, Ling should've sliced the P.Stone in half. So what happened there?

Maybe he missed the stone for 0.00001 milimetres... o.o
(Just kidding, but sometimes they used explanations of that sort in some series... so unreal @_@)

I suppose...But Arakawa-sensei isn't the type of person who would use that kind of explanation.

I have a question, how did Lust dies? that's odd.. I mean she suddenly goes poof.. (sorry, coz I haven't read the translated version)

Roy attacked the P.Stone. If the P.Stone is destroyed, the homunculi dies. If may look like Roy wasn't able to damage the P.Stone, but he did.

well, at least now we know that at least Roy is capable of killing a homoculous... but i wonder how Ed or Armstrong will?

but, really, roy has just proven how cool he really is!

and pride, envy mentioned his name... it looks like he's a special type of homonculous of he/she's able to use telepathy like that. her/his voice called to envy and gluttony that made them retreat.

Yeah, maybe Pride's special ability is mind-reading...or something like that.

i really like how wrath is in the manga... he seems so powerful than in the anime where he got kicked around by anime-wrath. the mere fact that he was about to join the fight in this chapter already sent the "Roy and co. are gonna die!!" signal. good thing he backed out.

well, at least he was considerate enough to have medics called for roy and havoc.

Wonder what Bradley is up to... Yeah, I agree, Bradley is so much better in the manga. Hehe, gotta love his sense of humour. ^^

he seems so lovable that one can't really imagine him to be a homonculous. If i were in the military and I was told that he was a homonculous, I wouldn't belive it even for a second!

but then, he's also so cool, and so strong despite being a seemingly regular soldier (non-alchemist) that you'd also have to wonder sometimes.

Yeah, that speed. Still, one could argue that it came from experience...(or maybe not...) *sighs* It's somewhat sad to know that he's a homonculus, and will, at some point, be defeated by Ed and co. (Wrath is such a cool character though!)

Hmm... I don't think Pride was contacting Envy and Gluttony through telepathy though, since it seems Lanfan and Lin can both hear Pride's voice as well....

Now I really wonder if Pride is actually someone we already know...

I've now read the translated version.... Jesus! I couldn't believe Roy actually burn his wound in order to stop it from bleeding.... OUCH! And he actually fainted several times for doing that....

Also I love it when he said he won't let Havoc die before him.....

I think Prides voice comes from the darkness near the roof tops, both envy and gluttony look up there when he/she speaks

hmm... sounds like pride has a higher rank in authority than envy. wow, this pride sounds more interesting now. but i wonder why he/she didn't show himself/herself... shouldn't he/she have helped lust defend their lair? yep, it is confirmed that the 3rd lab is their lair.

Suspense-filled chapter once again (my compliments to Arakawa!). The RoyxRiza moment couldn't have been orchestrated in a better manner. Roy is very intelligent, mending his wound in such a way. Awesome chapter! Wow!

Stop killing of Lust! Geez, first she dies in the anime then a week later, dead in tha manga. I'm so sad now. ;_;

And Barry the Chopper is dead too?!? He was so funny.

Great chpater though. I used to be one of those people who prefered the anime to the manga, but the quality of the manga seems to going up and the anime going down. I will have to reverse my preferences. Just look at the Al's character. He became a real dumbass in the anime but the way he protected Liza in this chapter was so wonderful.

P.S. Where's Ed? It's been 2 months with no Ed.

Yes, so many unexpected twists. We can never anticipate Arakawa-sensei's next move, which is why FMA is such an amazing manga. I bet nobody (with the exception of Arakawa-sensei and her helpers) would've thought Roy would mend his wounds that way.

Chapter 39 is perhaps one of the best chapter so far. Now, RxR fangirling aside, this chapter developed Roy's character quite a bit. We see how much Roy truly cares about his subordinates. I think we can all feel Roy's desperation, fear, and care throughout the entire chapter, especially during the part where Roy tells Havoc not to die before him.

Ed? Who cares about Ed?!

This manga is all about the Flame Alchemist and his gang! The way it should have been right at the start

Poor Ed... Seems like the little joke at the end of Vol 1. really did come true

Don't worry, Ed will be back soon. Afterall this is Fullmetal Alchemist... uh, yeah Vol 8 still shows Hagaren no Renkinjutsushi

i have a feeling chapter 40 is an Ed-centric chapter...



not only Roy, but the other characters as well... Al proved that he's not such a pushover, Wrath is still above everyone, and Riza, despite being such a sensible soldier, could still breakdown and cry making her more human.

Alphonse rox Though he'll need to wait for nissan to fix him up...

riza....somehow i think if roy really did died then she will also think her there will be no more reason for her being in this world....just like what lust has said when she try to kill riza..
