^Yeah, around here people doesn't really have watch an entire ep of wherever anime, and they are already hating it...they have really no good resons at all.

That seems to be the case in generalized hate of all kinds; if someone has their sites set on hating something, then they will hate it no matter what, and will not stick around to be convinced otherwise. Sometimes, if they fear that they're in danger of starting to like it or even just become more neutral and understanding of it, then they'll defend themselves by actively yelling about the stupidity of it all rather than paying attention. It's their deal. *shrug*



Yeah, cause there's no way they'd ever just be curious about what you're reading. Be it a novel, a comic book or a magazine, people just have that tendency to ask. Maybe they're just trying to start a conversation or be nice.

Not enough people do nowadays. ><

exactly....people hate anime because they think it's all childish, but they should'nt have any room to talk if they haven't even seen more mature anime (not saying that they should watch all the anime with a bunch blood and cussing or anything) but at least one that has a good plot...heck D.N.Angel is better then pok'emon plot wise. (no offense) But people just say those things because we anime fans get mad >< People can be such idiots sometimes

I don't know why people in my school hate anime.... they should at least give it a chance.... Well, actually, my cousin hates some of the anime I watch because I make her watch it until she wants to shoot the T.V. screen, but anyway..... she still really likes Miyazaki's movies!
Anime is so unique and interesting! People shouldn't hate it!

P.S. I don't watch any anime on 4kids entertainment..... I watch all of my anime on Cartoon Network.

That's not really a fair comparison. American cartoons are made purely for humor and never have a plot that continues for the whole season. They are made for a quick laugh, not keeping you watching for 26 episodes of story. The only American cartoon I can think of, from the recent past, that had a season long story line is Frisky Dingo. Frisky is a funny show by the way.

I remember some classmate of mine a few years back saying that anime sucks because it's weird and it's Japanese. O_O Yeah right... look who's talking. That guy loves cartoons, American cartoons that is. Though now I'm not sure if that guy still hates anime and loves cartoons. He's not in our school anymore.

Those kind of people are stupid. They never explain well why they " hate" anime. A friend of mine says I'm totally weird, because I watch anime. But I don't care. It's her problem if she don't like it.
EDIT: And saying that anime sucks because it's " weird" or " japanese".. That is just dumb.

The stupidest reason I've ever heard for hating anime was because it was a 'cartoon'. Sure, it IS animation, but most is mature, not a children's cartoon. Besides, whether or not it is a cartoon to some, ANYONE can watch a cartoon.

The most stupid reason I've ever heard for hating anime was just because... it's anime. No seriously, that's what my friend said- she hated anime because it was anime (and now she's a fan of Ouran and FMA =.=)

It annoys me, too. I was wearing an FMA shirt one day that had FMA's Japanese name written on it and a pic of Ed and an Invader Zim jacket tied around my waist and ne boy from my Civics class asked me what they were. I told him the FMA shirt was an anime, and the jacket was a cartoon I enjoyed. He just gave me a dumb look and said "Why don't you grow up and watch MTV or something instead of cartoons?"

I was so pissed off afterwards that my friends had to get me a milkshake when school ended for the day (milkshakes always cheer me up^^)

Lol, thanks^^ I feel a lot better about it. It was about six months ago. It really is funny how I usually watch MTV everyday and no show on there appeals to me I'd pick anime and cartoons over MTV any day!

I got one that makes me mad all the time. good lord. When a show takes a different show's time block, and the person who was in love with the original show in the time block decides that its pure crap and not worth their time with out even seeing it. They automatically write to the network saying so and so was better.

It happened when FLCL took Inuyasha's place on adult swim.... ugh I got so mad. It was so annoying.

I know what you mean. When some anime (I don't remember) took FMA's place in the Saturday line up, I was mad, but I didn't stop watching or complain. I still didn't complain when Inuyasha got a full hour block when AS pulled FMA for awhile. EVERYONE complained about that almost. I know a lot of people who stopped watching AS anime because of it

Well, The reasons I often get to hear are something like that:
"The characters are all the same."
"It's perverted."
"I've seen something on RTLII and I didn't like it." (RTLII has the longest anime-history in the german free-TV but the animes they are showing are mostly awful, or the censorship is so stupid that good series are actually made awful...)
"It's just for little kids. I'm too old/mature for something childish like that."
"I've never seen one, but I hate it." (<- well.That's a reason isn't it? *headdesk*)
And the list goes on and on...

"Stupid Japanese cartoons."

Oh good god it feels like a witch hunt! And I'm the witch! So disgusting that I'm constantly surrounded by that same type of attitude. Ignorance is a more serious word to call it. Xenophobia is an even more accurate word (as well stated by Void at the beginning of this thread). It really is quite maddening.
The grand majority of my former classmates have the same beliefs. What was one bit of gossip I heard?

Now I had not actually watched an anime until about... a year and a half ago (I don't count Dragon Ball Z because I considered it a cartoon at the time) but I never believed it to be any of what they had said. More of a nod my head and agree for the sake of not attracting attention to myself kind of thing. When I actually watched one I found no reason to dislike it or any credence to the... misconceptions of others.
