It all depends on what channel you're watching. Shows on Adult Swim, for example, typically only have one ad per show [unless it's one of their 15-minute shows].

SciFi, which explains the amount of fast food adverts.
Sadly it seemed some content was cut for no reason other than to make room for adverts and some of breaks were in really bad spots. Ultimate crime though lies in getting rid of the eye catches. They were wonderful.

Funny you should say that. I just watched a trailer for Sasami: Magical Girl's Club. Her name should be Sah-Sah-Mee, like it's been in the dub for about, oh, 8 years. But I guess Caitlin Glass decided she better say Sah-Suh-Mee. Not to mention the horrid art, terrible un-Tenchi like concept, and unfitting VAs. Alison Viktorin is not Sasami-sounding, just like Luci Christian is nowhere near Washu. And again, the annoying new art...

To watch TV, we have to pay about £136 a year. This is because the BBC shows no adverts, therefore we have to pay for them to make programs. Even if we don't watch the BBC, we still have to buy the license....or men come round and break your thumbs.
At Uni, we all had to pay for one for each seperate room, rather than one between us in an apartment. They know how to make their money the thieving bastards.

What I love(d) about one of the public libraries in my area is how the sci-fi/fantasy books have their own dedicated shelves (for my easy browsing). It's been about a year since I last visited and, well...the section is no more. The sci-fi/fantasy books have been dispersed amongst the general fiction. This makes me sad. :(

A 5.8 earthquake fifty miles from our area rocked our street to the point where lamp posts started swaying and the staircase separated about an inch from the wall.
Then people started walking around, claiming they needed to leave work early. Hm.

I thought so. :D We don't live close enough to the epicenter to get much earthquake drama locally--hell, we couldn't even feel any of the 30-ish aftershocks--but the 10-15 seconds of house-creaking tremor was pretty exciting. Not enough to send folks in my neighborhood outside, but still. (Or maybe they were at work? Or just lazy? Could be either.) It's a good thing no one was seriously injured and nothing was seriously damaged.
And this is only a 'moderate' quake. Momma Earth is simply bracing us for THE BIG ONE. :D

My parents prefer earthquakes over fires, else they would've gotten a house up on/against some fire-prone mountain where the danger is seasonal. We like the surprise of earthquakes.
Also: Californians, on the whole, are notoriously self-centered. Any little thing that happens here gets broadcasted nation-wide by any means possible. I'm just doing my part.

Party started around 8pm. I was dropped off there at 1pm and stayed until 9, forgetting about the damn thing.
I didn't join the party; I was pretty much avoiding everyone else in a little corner by the manga section while every girl and her mom was wandering about, screaming and laughing and so forth, all of them sporting 'Team Edward' or 'Team Jacob' t-shirts.
Sadly, the bathrooms are right next to the manga section, and for some reason the teen girls would run out of the restroom and wait for another girl to come out, then jump out and scream at her o.O
Can you say 'scary'? I sure can.

I hate to admit it, but I can imagine one or two of my friends (I have two who're hardcore fans, one who likes the books but aren't in love with Edward) acting like the girls you mentioned.
