Today I learned that a guy in my math class is 16. He's...a little weird. Like, today as I was quietly sitting and listening to the teacher talk, he just reached over and grabbed my pencil and notebook, drew a weird picture in it, then gave it back. After that, he asked me what my favorite Naruto character was, then told me he liked Gaara and Temari. He's nice and all, but just a little...weird. The teacher joked around and called him a thug, then picked on the quiet ones. After being called an evil mastermind, the class voted that I look like a psychopath murderer, because my hands are always folded over my face, kinda like Roy does sometimes. And all that in one hour.

I find ATLA to be a lot of fun, and one of the best (US) kids shows to come out in years for sho. The animation of the fight scenes are fantastic, the characters are cute and fairly characterized (they mess up and make logical errors like actual kids would do, while still being adaptable and learning all along.), and the silly, self-referencing (occasionally slyly fandom-referencing) humor is enjoyable. One of the best parts though, I think, is how much attention you know the writers are paying to the fandom, and the hints they drop that they've been listening. Ember-Island Players, (the best recap episode ever. EVER.) was pretty much a direct love-letter to the fans, addressing many of their assumptions, theories, fan-pairings, and poking fun at them all along. ("Great. Another fan with ideas.")
And that is why I like Avatar.
Also, my sister and I stayed up way past my bedtime (I have a bedtime now, whut!) to watch the insanely long finale.
It was so worth it. Crazula, ohmygod!

I watched an ep of Avatar once!
Sister girl was upset because brother boy was being impulsive or some thing.
The had to cross some canyon because the awesome flying yak was lazy or something. Anyway, they meet two groups, one weak but smart/liked planning, one strong but impulsive (Wow what are the odds of that?) The two groups hated eachother because their ancestors got upset due to some "sacred" rule being broken.
Brother and Sister split up with Aang doing whatever. Eventually everyone learns to get a long and the tribes make up because Aang claims the ancestors were just kids when they fell out and it was just some silly ball game. Big twist: He made the whole thing up.
I didn't really care for it until it revealed he made the story up and became a good character in my books but I never tried to watch it again. Maybe I'll marathon it. I probably won't though.

I think perhaps the only weak point that prevents me from getting too emotionally involved in Avatar is the fact that it's a Nick show and thus no matter how much they push the US-children's programming envelope, there will almost always be a deux-ex-machina involved that prevents actual deaths from happening. If it were anime, I'd probably get more intensely worried about the characters, but the fact that it remains a US cartoon means fewer surprise deaths/maimings/super upsetting stuff.
Pushing the envelope though- as I mentioned before, Azula's descent into unadulterated bat....tery. I didn't think they'd let a 14 year old villain, even a sociopathic one, come to an un-redeeming ending. But they so did. And I felt so bad for her.
Too much other stuff to squee about, but it was pretty cool.

The episode you saw was The Great Divide. It's usually considered the worst episode in the whole series. So you should probably find you a better episode to watch, perhaps Lake Laogai or City Of Walls & Secrets.
