@ Slash: My wife isn't into much anime. She only watches a few - Azumanga Daioh and Saiyuki.
My daughter loves anime. My daughter and I watch: Jubei Chan, Pretear, Wedding Peach, Kurumi (in japanese), and others. She talks about the characters in the anime all the time. I think her freinds are utterly confused when she starts talking about being the "love angel" (Wedding Peach

).

we also play video games together, my daughter and I. I played through Paper Mario 2 while she watched and "helped out". She's really good with Soul Calliber II and can even beat me sometimes

. She also loves Super Smash Brothers: Melee. I had always wanted to play games with my parents, but they weren't into it. I'm a video game person and love playing with her.
BTW: It's obvious I have a gamecube. It's probaby the best for family play time

If you like using formulas and mathematics, you'll like physics. I'm not a math wiz, but I loved working with formulas to express how things work. The big difference with chem is that the math is practical enough that you can actually visualize what's happening in your head. In chem, you can't really visualize chemical reactions well

You'll probably have to manipulate a bit, but unless you get into major physics, you'll only do algebra style movements. Most of it, however, is just plugging in and memorizing the formulas.
My suggestion for you is to get a conceptual physics book or physics for dummies and just get a feel for the subject. It won't get you all the knowledge, but at least you won't be surprised when you get to class (i.e. you'll have somewhat seen the stuff before).

I guess I could try.
Don't pronounce the last letter of a word in French. There are a few exceptions but more often than not, the last letter is silent. Along with a combination of consonants at the end such as -nt and -st. 'i's are pronounced like the 'e' in 'street'. the ending -ez is pronouced like the 'a' in 'hate'. When there is a combination of words where the first word has a vowel at the end and the second has a vowel at the beginning, the two words sound merged together. Example: C'est(seh) which is a combination of 'Ca' and 'est'. You wouldn't say 'ca(sa)' 'est(eh)'.
Did that make sense at all?
You may need to just ask what something sounds like. There's way too many specific sounds to explain. =D

@Ailuro: Oh, you know those slanting stress lines over the vocals? Do they make a difference in pronouncing and what other purposes do they serve, if any?
Ailuro
Jan 28 2005, 06:43 PM
Oh, the accents. Yeah, those make a difference.
é = accent ague. Makes 'e' sound like a long 'a'. Not sure what it does with the other vowels. My knowledge is limited.
è = accent grave. I'm guessing it does something similar to the accent ague.
ê = accent circumflex.
ë = trema.
I'm not sure how exactly the vowels change when accents are over them. I do know that if you leave off an accent, the word may mean something completely different.
Oh, more pronouncations. 'ch' is pronounced 'sh'. 'th' is pronounced 't'. And an 'h' at the beginning of words is silent. Usually 'll' is pronounced like a 'y'.
May I remind you that I am only in the first year of French in high school. Even with those years I took French from grades 4 to 6, my knowledge is still quite limited. I may not be a very good source.

You're certainly on the right track, Ailuro.

Good girl.
As far as I have seen (in the French language),
l'accent aigu has only appeared over the 'e', and like Ailuro mentioned, is pronounced 'ay' (like in 'day').
L'accent grave can be found over 'e' or 'a', and when over the 'e', is pronounced like 'e' in 'check'. Right now, I can't think of an example for à off the top of my head.
L'accent circonflexe appears over 'o', 'a', 'e', and the occasional 'i' (?), I believe. Most commonly found as ô, usually after an 'h' (
l'hôtel,
l'hôpital, etc.).
Le tréma turns the letter itself into its own separate sound, I think. A perfect example would be the pronunciation of the English word 'naïve', with the
tréma over the 'i'.
La cédille is the only accent that does not appear with a vowel. Commonly seen as 'ç', it makes the hard 'k' sound of the 'c' become a soft 's' (
français = [fran-SAY]).
That's all I can really remember.
