I'm a spoiled middle class suburban white kid, with trivial hobbies, a healthy dose of ignorance, lots of privelege and talent and no motion to use it to make the world a better place.
None of us are born or are capable of making the world a better place when we're young. It's almost as if it's beyond our limits. Does it make you a bad person if you are born into a more opportune postion than others? NO, it doesn't and there's no need to feel guilt over that. Life is unfair by definition. Stop beating yourself up over that.

I waste my art skills on making superficial 'pretty' pictures, and I dump my time and effort into writing fanfiction and silly comedy stories or fantasy epics, because I think it's fun. I don't deserve to be doing all this stuff carelessly when there are people dying of starvation in other countries; when there are people who would kill just to have a chance at taking a few classes at a good school; Children younger than myself who can't afford to play games or live in fantasy worlds because they have to grow up and face their harsh realities. What the hell right do I have to just waste the privelege I've been blessed with on such trivial pastimes as I do?
God forbid that a child shouldn't enjoy their childhood. You might not have time to do these things later so you should be enjoying it now while you still can

I can't even do anything about it, though, and that pisses me off the most. I can't even join the goddamn Peace Corps to relieve a little bit of my guilt because I'd need a college degree and a whole lot more money in order to do that.
Anxiety about the future is troubling you? There are plenty of other volunteer organisations that you can look into, again if that's what you really want to do. Loans can take care of college expenses if that's what you want to do. When all is said and done, I'll probably have ~150k in loans to repay. So it's not impossible to go to college if money is a problem.QUOTE(Toby-Chan @ Jun 8 2006, 08:17 PM)
What can I do? I'm just holed up in my tiny little world, and I don't even know where to start trying to make my life meaningful.
What can you do? Just be yourself. You have plenty of time to figure out what's right for you and how to make your life significant. There's no rush to do it within the first 20 years of your life. Heh, this actually reminded me of something I think you should listen to....
edit 1: i'll add the link in a sec....~
edit 2: Here
Take a listen to it, even if you already know the song/speech. It'll probably have more of an effect than my words.
