Any formal inquiries I do usually start off just like a letter even when done in email. Technically email is a form of written communication, which requires standard protocols. So, use "dear". Don't introduce your name in the email as it's not conversation. At the end of the email, you'll have the "sincerely, <xrninja smile.gif>", so you don't need to say, "hello, my name is...".

Be brief and specific about what you want as people are inundated with emails and don't want to have their time wasted and inbox even more full.

thanks, arche! smile.gif i'm bothering my sister for help too, though it's kind of dangerous as she's also studying for law school finals and is scarier than usual.

- my new dermatologist is nice. smile.gif unfortunately, she also has no idea what's wrong with my skin and has prescribed me some very strong stuff. the pills prescribed are supposedly like Benadryl but makes you a lot sleepier. except Benadryl already knocks me out right away. blink.gif

- went to mitsuwa again to pick up more groceries and a fix of milk coffee, and i saw a young white cashier, which means mitsuwa doesn't only hire middle aged japanese women! i'll probably turn in my application soon.

- Had first Japanese class today and I love it.  It's hilarious.
- My professor is an adorable Japanese lady married to a British man.  biggrin.gif  Her imitated exaggerations of foreigners speaking Japanese is so amusing.
- The projector screen wouldn't scroll back up, no matter how hard she tried.  The attempts were punctuated with the occasional "Nani kore!?"  It was funny just to watch.  laugh.gif
- Japanese class is pretty easy so far.  Writing it is another story, but it isn't so bad.  Initially, I had trouble writing "あ" but that's in the past now, fortunately.

yay! japanese is my favorite class. i'll help you if you need any. biggrin.gif back in the japanese 1 days i used to have a lot of trouble writing nice-looking "a"s and "nu"s, but my handwriting's pretty good now. (in fact, it's better than both my english and chinese handwriting. >__>;; )

Not always. There's one that I go to that's populated by college kids.

Is there something wrong with me? I don't want to learn any new languages anymore dry.gif

I guess after going through so many different ones, I'm tired of learning languages and should go back to actually understand the ones I learned formally. I'm just so much more interested in theoretic linguistics. I do need to pick up some latin though as it's spread out in so many books I've been reading. Perhaps I should pick up a dictionary to see if that's enough.

Here's a good book that offers excellent guides to how to present linguistic/mathematical information that I got from the library recently:

Mathematical Logic ~ W. V. Quine

If you're into math, you should at least read the introduction as it talks about how mathematics can be reduced to logic. It also shows presentation mistakes made by math books because mathematicians don't always follow good form for writing about concepts (i.e they forget that they are dealing with the same thing philosophers are dealing with in logic). In any case, the bad form can cause some mistakes in understanding mathmatic concepts.

It's also a good book if you're interested in learning about logic in general. I'm just started through a few sections and really find it quite interesting.

If nothing else, you'll learn why Boston isn't dysyllabic laugh.gif

Just got Foundations of Arithmetic ~ Gottlob Frege from the library today. I need to read through it to get some info on some linguistic/logic concepts.

Also got An Intro to the Philogophy of Science ~Carnap from the library. I don't know how far I'll get into that one as I'm not sure I'm up for the subject as much as general linguistics, but we'll see. I have been wanting to push myself to get up to par on philosophy of science.

I'm so glad I live near plenty of academic libraries that are linked to my public library. I just need to find a way to get borrowing priveledges with the Boston Theological Institute libraries. Perhaps through my old seminary as I think it may have the cheapest non-student rate. I miss having access to over 2 million volumes sad.gif

yeah, and plus there was the white guy cashier today...which gives me hope. and i know beggars can't be choosers, but i really don't want a cashier job, since i'm clumsy and i always drop change and it takes my brain awhile to break down 45 cents of change into a quarter and two dimes. preferably i'd like something simple like restocking shelves and cleaning or something. biggrin.gif;; same with barnes and noble.

I miss having access to over 2 million volumes sad.gif

naah, not yet. which is kind of bad if i do end up going, because it was $85 last week, $95 this week, and $105 next week. and as there's only friday left of this week, it's $105 or no-go. i think i'll probably opt for no-go and blow my money on merchandise at fanimecon instead.

- hmm. i can either work on chinese homework so i'm not swamped tomorrow while studying for the chinese final, or i can work on my senior mag PC, which is due tomorrow fourth period. i'll probably write my lovely PC on how anime has destroyed any productivity i used to possess, since it seems a little more interesting than a chinese essay on my ideal boyfriend.

Ahh, they raise prices? Either they want more money, or they want less and less people to go. Probably the former. Spending money on merchandise is a good idea as well. Don't quote me on this though. laugh.gif

You get such interesting Chinese essays. Do you choose your own topics? I remember when my compositions had to be very creative if I wanted to make it fun. That's why my friends and I usually end up writing something along the lines of mafia activity and bank robberies.

Mormons and their watered down beer. I remember when we were driving to the east coast to work the sideshow we stopped in Utah and bought some beer. That reminds me of my Shaolin Kung Fu class. We started off with a really good teacher who came from the Shaolin temple. He got a knee injury and was unable to teach so the head of the school came to teach for a while. He also studied at the temple and was good. Third teacher was a monk who was on a visa to teach, he was tough but really good. The school had to tell him he could not hit his students here in the US. laugh.gif

Anyway, good teachers visa ran out so it was back to China he went. He was replaced by a kick boxing teacher who sucked ass. He kept correcting my horse stance, which was deemed fine by three masters into this messed up painful position. Then he was teaching us all these boxing stances that had no place in Kung Fu. Needless to say I never went back.

I didn't spit on him but I wanted to.

Oh my god...I just stopped watching the Blair Witch project. I got about 4/5 of the way through it and I couldn't take it anymore. I am such a scaredy cat with scary movies. I kid you not when I tell you that this is only the second horror movie I've ever watched. I didn't finish the first one either.

I am so freaking scared. I stopped just after the part where they find Sean(is that his name?)'s tongue in the stick bundle. My dad told me the end and I swore that I'd watch the whole thing later. I have not ever seen this movie and I've already had a nightmare about it. The stick figures, oh my god....that's what my nightmare was about, and when they showed up I totally flipped out.

My dad said that this was made by like three guys who had like $2000 for the whole thing. And that when the actors went in, they got their lines but nobody else's, so they didn't know what anyone else was going to say or do until they did it. Another interesting fact that he told me is that in the part on the second night when they hear the childrens' laughter and they run out into the woods, when Heather starts going, "What the f*ck is that?" It turns out that the producer set his dog loose and didn't tell them.

I am never going camping again.....

- No FMA tonight on AS. I guess TheVileOne is out of a job for now.
- Had to take my grandfather around again. We watched Blade Trinity and Assault on Precint 13. (sp?) I thought the ending for Blade was kind of typical and lame, hinting at him returning to blood-sucking. Assault was just lots of shooting, blood and violence. Overall, not a complete waste. We got a free meal out of it anyways. laugh.gif
- I was downloading DMC soundtracks through Bittorent, and just as it finished I got an error. Weird. Maybe it has something to do with this WindowBlinds program...
- ...would it be safe to say that America is a spoiled, flip-floppy brat? As some kind of label or something... I know it's not actually safe, 'cause if I said that on television some people might want me dead. But anyway...

It's not that they don't speak English well; their English is decent enough.  But the way they dress and talk is just . . . ugh.

But it's such fun being a fob. When you see a fellow fob among the white faces, the two of you are automatically friends.

Safe or not, it's true.

Hey, they can't help it that they can't speak english well. Though I tried to speak like a fob for a day it was hard.
