I actually think George Lucas would have done better leaving the first trilogy alone or making the "second" trilogy in the same style the old one had.
IMO, the new trilogy got much more money than it deserved; it was like trying to turn a comedy into drama, look at how they changed Yoda for example.
Sure, there are some good memorable moments in the new trilogy, but IMO, it could have been better.

Only a n00b would vote for the new trilogy!
Actually, I haven't seen ep. III yet, but I doubt it's good enough to make up for the hatchet jobs that the first two were.

I voted old trilogy, but I haven't seen the last installment of the new trilogy yet. Except for some screenshots with butchered Chinese -> English subtitles.

It was hilarious, though.
I guess I wasn't all that fond of the high romance factor in the Episode II. And the effects although very beautiful didn't seem to fit all that well. Maybe because I was used to the older movies. I wonder about Episode III... is it really that bad? Some critics really tore into it.

Ditto. The original three are all classics. Episode 3 was great, but it can't make up for 1 and 2 being so horrible.

Obviously the old one is better. In fact the old one that wasn't touched up by Lucas is the actual best one. Lucas can't make a decent movie unless it's unfinished and not to his satisfaction. Once he gets working to make it "better", he screws it up.
Ep 3 wasn't too bad, but not great. It was a bit over the top on special effects and action sacrificing dialogue and even believability of people's behavior.

I don't get why people like Episode III if they don't like the first two. I mean, it's exactly the same: excessive use of special effects (which really doesn't make them special anymore), clumsy dialogue, lack of any believable plot, and terrible acting. If you hated the first two, then you should hate the third.

It was down there with Episode II, and I don't even wanna talk about how big of a disappointment Phantom Menace was...

I've only seen the first of the new trilogy, but based on that and what I've heard, I'd say there's no contest. Old = good, new = not worth the price of a movie ticket.

Easy. Both.
The old was without the whole cud load of money he could have spent, but the new one is. Imagine if the old was made on the exact same amount of budget III was...yup, you would have remembered a differrent Classic Trilogy.
I like them both, because I like Star Wars equally.
END of story.

I grew up with the originals, and have been in love with Darth Vader my whole life, but the first episode left me kind of cold.
I wasn't sure about Ewan McGregor as young Obi-Wan (but I've grown to like him very much since then), and initially I hated Hayden Christensen as Padawan Anakin (I don't mind him so much now) and thought that George Lucas really slid off as far as the screenplay goes, relying heavily on the visual effects to tell the story.
It wasn't until my sons were old enough to get into it that I saw it with fresh eyes, and realized that it is everything to them that the original trilogy was to me.

The old ones are certainly the better for me, there were moments in the new trilogy that bored me to tears. I just didn't enjoy then as I do the original trilogy, in fact they were bad as films go generally.

The 'old' starwars had what you called storyline. This was Lucas in his prime, doing his best work.(given the time and age). The old movie have lore and heroic/epic storyline. What the new one have is lights, action, and loud noises. This is all too common place in movies these days. They lack the indept story, just quick flashes. Mediocre at best story line, then big finish. Boom! Actually after saying that; you could say that the new Star Wars is like bad sex, really.

The old one.
As the world evolves, the minds of the creatures upon it crumble and turn to ash.
The new ones are pieces of crap, but they're no shorter, unfortunately.
So, no, you can't have to 3 hours of your life Episode II discarded.
;-; I'm sorry.
At least you got your money's worth-wait-no you didn't...

....makes sense. I think what you are trying to say is the effects make it special whereas for the new Trilogy we have seen that sort of CGI all before.

"Bad" only in relation to modern. The effects of Star Wars were new and really changed the industry.

If you picked anything other than the original, you cannot be a true fan of the series. If you judge the two trilogies by their effects, then you're an idiot. Movies are good because of the story and acting, not because of the special effects. The original trilogy is on a whole different level from the new three. They were all perfect.
The new three are not even close. Though, of course, I liked them all, they all have large flaws. Episode I looked like a little kids movie, with annoying jokes and childish dialogue, though Liam Neeson (Qui-Gon) acting was as up to par as usual. Episode II was the worst. It was a bunch of different plots thrown together in a bad way. The romance between Anakin and Padame was horrible, the dialogue between the two was terribly cliche. I did like all of the clues that showed what was going to happen, though, and the fight at the end was good.
Episode III is by far the best of the new three. But its major flaw is that in this move Lucas seems to overdo it with the computer graphics. Many of hte places he overdoes the special effects, but the dialogue and acting are poor. But, this one may be even better than the originals if you only take in the movie from where the Jedi are killed off to the end fight, which was, in my opinion, the best duel in any of the movies. Plus, the very end to this movie was the best in any of the movies, easily.
But I am afraid that Lucas was doomed from the beginning. He could never outdo his work in the 70's and 80's. But I've grown up on Star Wars and, as a whole, its one of the best movie sagas ever made.
