Where have I been? 'Tis a long tale, full of intrigue and betrayal. Adventure and peril! Darkness...and the coming light. It begins...
I've been playing World of Warcraft. I guess that wasn't such a long story after all.

...aheh. Hm.
Omakase, you are just too sweet. Thank you very much for your perpetually kind words. Truth is, I kinda forgot that I'd actually have check the forums if I wanted to keep abreast of things. I was used to just responding when I found replies in my e-mail, but obviously that doesn't keep one informed of new topics and such.
So my absence is largely due to my being silly. I'll try to be more active (or else my rank is never gonna climb).

I can see [the makings of] a great writer in you~ And
Warlords of Warcraft, eh? Everybody seems infatuated with that game, is it really that good?

-^^- You make me blush, 'perpetually kind words'? I've already shown my darker side in another section of the forum, you know~ X3
Oooh, that's not silly at all!

I thought you were being drafted away by the sudden flood of newbies and didn't want to brave the forums anymore because of it. T__T I'm glad you've returned though! Although the Fanfiction section hasn't been added by
bryantq yet... XD He's also really into
WoW, you see.

Haha where'd you get "Warlords" from? It's
World of Warcraft and it owns my soul. Yes it is that good. Try it. Heheheh. Trrryyyyyyyy iiiit; joooiiiiin...uuuuuusssssss....

The only reason you think you see a good writer in me is because I write essays instead of posts. Hahahahaha. Well anyway...back to
WoW! Aaahahahahhaha!

Oooh, I just might.

It seems intrigueing(sp? @.@ can't write) enough. Horde side of the Dragonblide?

Essays are always great to read and write [on occasion]. I was talking about your use of fancy words and adjectives. Not to mention flawless grammar. ^^ If you can master it all as well as you can that has to say something about your skills, right?

I've come to respect Kase's opinion, so I'll have to check out telepika's fanfiction (if I ever decide that I have time in between graphic novels, manga, an eclectic assortment of literature, writing, and WoW).
Need to figure out how to get paid for all this crap I do.

Alright guys, for all of you who've been waiting. I think ill open up the section soon, however i will require a fanfiction moderator to review and approve posts. These fanfictions will be posted via way of the forums, however will have full ability to post html within them, as well as be displayed on the main site through our forum sdk (you'll see)
We're also going to need to laydown a few guidelines and hope you guys will discuss that amongst yourself

Ghost and/or
Tokage would be perfect for the job.

One thing we should discuss is how to deal with unfinished work. Reading unfinished work can be annoying, but it's also a big part of the fanfiction community experience. Works in progress, or abandoned works which can be resumed can be fun to read and comment on. Even just begging the author to work faster can be fun, and it's a real inspiration to the authors themselves.
But you probably won't want to lend bandwidth to stories which remain perpetually unfinished or abandoned. So maybe there should be a maximum time limit on how long an abandoned story can be displayed. Or something like that.

Jan 22 2005, 05:09 AM
Oh good one.

I myself hate it when authors give up on their work halfway. (Yes, meaning I hate myself for never finishing anything multi-part -.-) Mediaminer.org has a limit to those stories as well. I think it's going to be deleted from the archives after two years not having been updated.
Also, about the rating. Can't exceed the R rating, right? Or is R already too much? ^^;;
alchemistgirl zero
Jan 22 2005, 03:46 PM
I doubt NC-17 will be allowed here, but as for R, it probably depends on the ratio of sex to violence. Some things are rated R because they don't want younger people to see them; only a certain age group. You could do what Viz and the others do with their manga and anime and do the 'family', 'kid', 'teen', 'older teen', 'mature', and 'adult/18+' thing.
I dunno; just a suggestion.
Ghost
Jan 23 2005, 03:18 PM
Now, I really like reading mature fanfiction (and I'm not talking porn, which is, in my opinion, the opposite of "mature"), and am staunchly opposed to censorship so I'm not sure about the rating limit we should impose.
There's a difference between porn and a sex scene (or even multiple sex scenes). The guidelines should definitely say "no porn" because porn is boring and dumb. And if people really want to imagine their favorite characters having sex, they can do so without aid, or they can solicit some other source.
But I'm a big fan of brutal violence, and I've read many fanfictions which treated their (usually only one) sex scene with taste and maturity. So I'd hate to exclude such fanfics.
Maybe we could just segment the potentially "offensive" fics in a section with very large and noticeable disclaimers which would prevent our getting in trouble when mom finds out that little billy's been reading tasteful "smut" that has like, one explicit reference to sex.
Omakase Shimasu
Jan 23 2005, 05:50 PM
Indeed. I know exactly what you mean about lemons and the like. Although I do enjoy the occasional lemon scene or even something hinted at it, but that's only in a multi-part fic where the plot revolves around something other than porn... NC-17 PWPs. Short, pointless and all about sex. Nope.
Hard R rated because of violence. I've never seen such a fic before, at least not rated because of it. I'd have liked to read such fics though.

Oov, I hope it won't come to those entrances-hidden-within-the-disclaimers kinda thing you sometimes see with NC-17 sites. It might be efficient when dealing with people who don't read disclaimers, enter a site and then starts flaming, but for people who already know and are mature enough to handle the content... Or wasn't that what you meant? ^^;;;
alchemistgirl zero
Jan 23 2005, 06:12 PM
Maybe you should have something like:
Hey moron! Before you read this fanfic, it has two people having sex, a guy getting his head lopped off and blood spilling everywhere, and other things that shall haunt your children in thier sleep! If you wanna go on, okay, but if you don't: turn back because thsi fic is rated 'R'. ...

just a thought
Ghost
Jan 25 2005, 11:03 PM
Yeah that's pretty much what I'm saying, Zero. But let me describe what I was imagining in slightly more detail.
I'm imagining something with different categories for ease of navigation, like... 'Romance' 'Action' 'Drama' 'Comedy' and then have one that's like 'Mature' or some such synonym - and when it's clicked it takes you to an interim page that says "Adult Material beyond this point, continue at parental discretion if under 18." And a [Continue] button.
Now maybe this thing could stick you with a cookie so you don't have that extra step each time you want to visit the restricted section or something, I really don't know much about the programming angle.
OR, now that I'm thinking about it, you could skip the extra step by having a brief genre description under each category link. For the restricted section, the genre description would be the disclaimer and would be in red text.
The potential problem I see with this method, is that many fics can (and should) be categorized with multiple genres, and relegating things exclusively into the 'Mature' section, may make the fics more, instead of less, difficult.
Or maybe there's a simpler solution to it all, but that's all I can think of for now.

Jan 26 2005, 11:29 AM
@Ghost: Hey! What's they used to do on fanfiction.net before they got flooded with all the NC-17 fics and put them on a different site.

;; There are some real pervets out there...
Mediaminer.org does the thing where it tells you if the fic is completed or not. Personally, I don't like seeing incomplete parts of fics. It enraged me.
Ghost
Jan 26 2005, 05:37 PM
The reason this site won't suffer the same fate as fanfiction.net is because this won't won't accept smut.
(If it's exceptionally written, compelling smut, then maybe it can be hosted but with an extra disclaimer on the fic itself. This would be in rare cases and would in no way represent the major content of the 'Mature' section, let alone the rest of the archive.)
Is this a good idea? I don't know site administration/traffic management stuff.
