i think there are a lot of things BONES did that arakawasensei didn't really intend for the story to have...  at least not YET anyway.  but i get a kick out of how she pokes fun at it.  her movie omake art was a laugh riot!

Different mediums. Artistic license. They are making a 51 episode series while the manga is still being written out and its story ongoing.

oh. thanks for clearing that up, Captain Obvious. 9_9

i was mostly irritated by how the timeline seemed to be in constant flux.  the boys' ages kept changing irrationally, and there seemed to be time warps where the space-time continuum seemed to uh...shift.  i had a helluva time trying to get the timeline to work for a fic i was working on, because i was using events from both the anime AND the manga...and making them fit together was a *bear*!

Its not the anime's fault you have a hard time with fanfic.

and it's not my fault you have a stick up your ass. i see you had no glib comments to shoot down my complaint, so you had to attack my fanfiction? that's mature.

and VileOne, i think you need a nap.  there's no need to get crappy with people. if you have an explanation for something, say it, but don't get shitty about it.  nobody's attacking YOU, so stop acting like you're taking this personally.  dry.gif  but why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel?  i think you're holding back... rolleyes.gif

They were being shitty towards the anime, FALSELY and wrongfully calling it shameful and pitiful. I defended it as such. Did I go overboard? If I did, I apologize, but I am getting sick and tired of the manga purists constantly ragging on the anime and nitpicking over stupid crap.

They sound just like the people on the Spider-man boards who nitpick and whine about little crap and how it ruins the movies and in relation to the comics as well.

there is a difference between defending someone and just being a jerk. you've succeeded swimmingly at the latter. if someone doesn't like what was done with the anime...that's their opinion, so what right do you have to cram YOURS down their throat? the point of this topic is to discuss what people who don't care for the anime don't like ABOUT the anime... not to shoot down everything they say in a snarky and rude manner.

there are a lot of inconsistencies and holes in the plotline BONES worked up. but we still watched it, didn't we? we're still here, aren't we? you don't need to defend an anime from its fans, honey. O_o now quite trying to sound so smart and superior and get over yourself. the manga will always be better, because the manga tells the full story. and that's not an opinion, it's a fact, so don't start with me. as you already pointed out to us...the anime is 51 episodes, half of which had nothing to do with what went on in the original storyline...which is 49 chapters and counting. the anime was lovely to see and fabulous to hear [well...in japanese anyway, i have never cared for the dub, but that is a different discussion]...but it's not the whole story. not by a long shot.

let them vent their opinions, and if you have a rebuttal, post it. but don't be an asshole about it.

Your complaint about the timeline? I never had a problem following the timelines in either medium.

That's their opinion and that's fine. But when they are FALSELY AND WRONGFULLY calling out mistakes that are NOT there and calling it pitiful and shameful, I'm going to step up and call them on it, so boo hoo.

In regards to the manga and anime, yes you are. And quite frankly I'm sick of it.

Simply put, there are things I like in the manga better, and things I like in the anime better. I'm not going to subscribe to this notion that the anime sucks or has inconsistencies, or that it butchered Arakawa-san's work.

Do I hate what Bones did to the story? If you are calling what I think is one of the greatest anime series of all time hate...guess so.

Erroneous.

The birds clearly weren't alive.  I don't know what he did to them, and I don't really care.  The idea was to get across that this person was NOT Cornello and was a fraud too.

And who's to say that Envy in that form didn't have an incomplete stone and used it do as such?

Sorry, but even having the philoshopher's stone with them (read the manga if you need to) they CAN'T use alchemy. Yes, of course, they where dead, and there's precisely my point, noone can convert something dead to life, and in the anime are continously doing that. Sorry if I'm so drawn to what the manga says, but you know, the anime comes from the manga, and the manga is the REAL thing.

And it's ok if Cornello is not that one, but the fact is that Envy can't use alchemy, even with the philosopher's stone, and he uses it. And that, my friend, is a BIG mistake.

QUOTE
Just because Envy said so to Lust doesn't mean Envy was telling the truth.  Envy was obviously around a lot longer than Lust was.

That seems like a really soft excuse to me, sorry. Something as important as him being the homunculus of Hohenheim's first son should have been shown more, or at least hinted more than in the last 2 episodes. It makes you feel as if it was something they just took out from their sleeve.

QUOTE
There was a big difference between Al when he said the first quote and Al during the second quote.  For instance he was an all powerful and glowing PHILOSOPHER'S FREAKING STONE!

I KNEW! someone was going to tell me that. And how the hell do you know that it's because of that????? They explain why Al can be poored with water without needing to worry (oh! and why did they even start worrying about that when in the anime Al even goes fishing to the sea!! Fishes and Water all over the sign and noone is worried and suddenly they make a lot of fuss because he fell on the river) but they don't explain that he can feel now that he has de Philosopher's stone inside of him, when we know that one thing he wanted his body back for was to be able to feel again????

Sorry, but being the Philosopher's stone the one allowing him to feel is just your opinion (and probably of more poeple), but it's not proved.

QUOTE
Well the only mistakes I'm seeing are in your posts.  For instance its pitiful not pitiffull, which is pitiful and shameful, not shamefull.

How about you have some respect to other poeple?? You know, SORRY for not being neither from USA or UK or another country where English is actually spoken, I'm spanish so SORRY for making such mistakes while I try my best to chat with you people.

QUOTE
How about all your mistakes you just listed are bullshit and you should stop nitpicking over little crap.  You are probably pissed how Psiren in one episode becomes a nun, yet how there's no existing Christian religion in the world of the series.

How about you shut your mouth and start talking when you are able to discuss something maturely? For example, giving real reasons and not atacking people??? Oh! And yes, there might not be a Christian religion in the world of the series, but there's a God and as there's a god there can be nuns, as well as there are people like Cornello.

Ok, the birds are not alive, I agree. But they were "animated" in some way... Envy hast not the power to do that, and he can't use alchemy even if he has the Philosopher stone, so... hey, a fail! XD

It was hinted at. They hinted about it in episode 22 for instance. And BEFORE the last 2 episodes when Envy gets pissed that Hohenheim was taken through the gate because he wanted to kill him himself and he reacts violently. Once again erroneous.

I don't see it as a fail. I see it as a plot device. There's no evidence to prove that Envy couldn't have done that with the birds, its a great moment, and I accept it. Just as I can accept in Spider-man a kid getting super power from a spider-bite. Or in Fullmetal Alchemist people being able to perform ridiculously sized alchemical reactions with arrays. Or a brother whose soul is in a suit of armor.
it is a continuity fail, Envy can't remember his true face (hey, he could be even a girl XD), but in the last chapter Boness needed a dramatical moment, so they just make the stupid change XD and then they transmuted envy into a third rate Shenron (Dragon Ball dragon XD)... until then, Envy could only transform into human beings... not even inanimated materials... oh, I know, maybe Hoenhein was a dragon when he and Dante (another stupid anime change XD) created him XD.
Dramatical biggrin.gif .

Ok so...just because Envy had only been doing so until that happened. . . doesn't mean he couldn't. Envy never said he couldn't transform into inanimate objects or things like the dragon. It was NEVER without hyperbole established that he couldn't do that in the anime. If he can't transform into inanimate materials TheEvilOne, then how does he transform WITH clothes? Are clothes not inanimate objects?
you don't have any reason to say that. We all know that one of the most important things Al is missing is his touch sense (I suppose it is not the correct name at english, sorry about that). YES I KNOW! That's why it was such a great moment that he could finally FEEL Ed again before he disappeared so he could revive him and give him his limbs back.
The rest...I have no idea what you are talking about.
Dai
I think you can't argue properly if you don't know what are we talking about... because Reika and I were watching the anime and the manga step by step, if you don't remember things (Like Al picking fishes with his empty "stomach" at their training island, when they came back to remember their training) you can't say there is not fails... that's my opinion...

and when a character shows powers that he hasn't before just to that moment... it is a big fail, or the worst guionist ever... "I don't know how to end this... so I'll give pepito that new power! that is! then I will not have to bother myself in thinking! yay! XD
Guest
To put it bluntly, there are some things that BONES did that I liked better than the manga and some things that they did that I disliked. I've read the entire manga and seen the entire anime and, at the moment, consider the anime superior (since the manga's still going, that might change, of course).

Hmm... some Spanish speakers, eh? De que lugares nacisten ustedes? My spanish's been rusty for a while now, so please correct me if I said that wrong tongue.gif
lialiakicks
*sigh* Oh, forget it... ;____;
Reika
TheEvilOne, why do I have the feeling that you haven't read the manga yet?
Its a fictional story, nothing about is real rolleyes.gif .
XDDDDDDD By Real thing I was saying that the manga is the original, and what it says is what it's true for that story, not the anime.
They don't bring anything back to life though. The birds were not alive. He just made them pop into the air and then they all explode. What Envy used there might not have even been alchemy, just an offshoot of his own power. I don't agonize over it, and its not a big deal to me.
Are you telling me that making something... alive.. enough as to make them FLY, even if it is for a few seconds, and even CHIRP!, is not REVIVING??? My theory is that they exploded because there's no way noone could revive anything well enough to make them live long, even if it is Envy, Hohenheim or Ed, without the philosopher's stone. And not the fact that they weren't revived in the first place, because they flied and chirped. That's alive enough for me as to say they were revived.

If they didn't tell us what he uses, it makes it to be a hole. When people start thinking there's something strange and "what did he do there?" and don't have an answear, that's a hole in the plot.
And by the way, when you finish reading the manga and extras... you'll see that Envy's only power is changing his own form, not reviving anything, or animating it, nor anything he could do with the birds. Correct me if I'm wrong.
It might not have even been alchemy either.
Same as above.
It was hinted at. They hinted about it in episode 22 for instance. And BEFORE the last 2 episodes when Envy gets pissed that Hohenheim was taken through the gate because he wanted to kill him himself and he reacts violently. Once again erroneous.
He just says "I hate you because you have the same blood as him", you can imagine anything by that.

Envy getting pissed of happens in episode 46 (5 episodes earlier), and even so, Pride saying "your true father" doesn't mean he is saying that Envy was his first son's homunculus. Although it could be, I can't deny that and I won't. Anyways, that's something that doesn't prove it's been ploting since episode 22, and personally, I don't think it's like that. And by saying "last two episodes" I was being general, you can change it to "couple" if that's more correct.
I really don't know what you are talking about...fishes in the sea?
Yes, a lot of fishes use to live in the sea XD

You don't know what I'm talking about? See episode 28 and episode 3 where Al is in the water and noone says anything and doesn't make a fuss of it. And then see episode 44 and tell me there's nothing strange with that XD
You can't disprove it. Al was all uber-powerful when it happened, and it was not much of a stretch.
You can't prove it either, so don't afirm "you are WRONG" with all your willpower, it makes me think of you as "it's like that because I say so".
I was trying to make a point in that little nitpicking and bitching about mistakes I'm seeing are about as stupid and insignificant as me complaining about their spelling.
No, stupid and insignificant would be "Al restransmutates a pealed apple to it's original form with peal and even the branch", or "Hakuro's shot in the ear and it makes him a hole. He reappears in episodes later and doesn't have it".
Plot holes and facts that aren't confirmed or can't be confirmed that affect the plot aren't stupid nor significant.

And personally, I didn't see it as "it sounds like your mistakes on spelling" but as "why are you criticizing something I like when you even don't know how to spell "shameful" and "pitiful"?" I took it as a direct attack more than as something that had to do with the discussion in question: "BONES mistakes in the anime while adapting the FMA Manga".
Hey, I'd like to start seeing real reasons as well instead of false crap about why the anime series is "shameful" and "pitiful". And just a little FYI, I never gave a crap about the Psiren thing either.
Wait 'till I finish checking all the episodes, I've been busy and I'm currently at episode 22. I don't want to add more mistakes in this thread untill then (it would make it repetetive), I just stated a couple of them that came first to my mind. Anyways, I won't state them as mistakes, but as unansweared questions that I didn't find an explanation and that for me that makes them mistakes.

But I would like to know what do you think that "Real Mistakes while adapting an story" are for you (no meaning of offense here).
Good, you too.
Did I made you feel bad while arguing with reasons to support my opinion? Or was I acting superior by reasoning my thoughts on the anime? Or maybe you tell me that because I defended myself from your direct attacks?
YES I KNOW! That's why it was such a great moment that he could finally FEEL Ed again before he disappeared so he could revive him and give him his limbs back.
The rest...I have no idea what you are talking about.
Yeah, it was a great moment, but I think they should have explain it, I was like "huh??? since when does he feel again???! O.o".
third rate Shenron
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD yeah, why the hell does he transform into a dragon??? XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD I couldn't help but laugh there, I was like "huh? He isn't just powerfull enought to get rid of those... things, by just changing his form, but he changes to a GREEN DRAGON!!! What the hell???" XDDDDDDDDDDD And imadiatly Shenron came to my mind I started laughing hard! XDDDDDDDDD But well, what I don't find normal about that is that BONES says "FMA is a very real anime, so Ed can lose his will to go back to his world" but they put a green big alive dragon in OUR London.
Just as I can accept in Spider-man a kid getting super power from a spider-bite
I don't see that as if it was the same, in spiderman they explain why and how happens that, in FMA noone explains what Envy does nor how. And I don't find it comparable with what happens to Ed and Al, because that's explaint too.
That's why I say it's a plot hole, and a plot hole for me is a big mistake.
Ok so...just because Envy had only been doing so until that happened. . . doesn't mean he couldn't. Envy never said he couldn't transform into inanimate objects or things like the dragon.
Ok, so you are right about that it doesn't mean he doesn't have any other power. But that we know untill now, and I think it's confirmed, all the homunculus have only ONE ability:

Gluttony: Eat anything
Lust: Slice things with her fingers (nails? :s)
Pride/Wrath: See even the flowing of the air with his eye.
Sloth: We still don't know (manga) / (anime), transform into water.
Anime Wrath: mix himself with other things and use alchemy because he has ed's arm and leg.
Manga Pride: We still don't know.
Envy: Change his original form into anything (we've only see him transforming into animated things though).

Why should Envy have more than one power??????

PS: I think you are taking this arguing about BONES mistakes as a personal attack (correct me if I'm wrong) to just you. It's not like it, I'm arguing my reasons when I say there's a problem with BONES' adaptation of the manga to the anime. I'm going to publish all the "why...?"s to discuss them openly and give reasons, not to attack anyone.

see? there I am, between envy's... coff coff! I mean, Shenron's horns XDDDDDD look carefully XD

and, about envy's clothes, as long as we know, they must be from his own body to make him able to transform them... and maybe they are not non-biological... maybe they are just envy's skin simulating that they are made of another matherials... we can't know it, so I'm not going to say it is like I say... It is a person's freedom to give opinions and sometimes they may make a rather extreme statement about something which is deserving of correction or debate. There's nothing wrong with TheVileOne defending the anime, though you should also take into consideration the other side of the argument as well. Vice versa for the other party.
(and please do not start belittling other people or flaming them - that should go for everyone ^ ^)

I've given my thoughts on the anime already, so I won't reiterate my points.

TheEvilOne, why do I have the feeling that you haven't read the manga yet?
Oh I have read it, I just bought volume 2 in stores and finished reading it. I've also read the later scan-lated chapters.
XDDDDDDD By Real thing I was saying that the manga is the original, and what it says is what it's true for that story, not the anime.
So? The Spider-man comics are the original, but the movies still rock. They made a lot of changes in the movie they stayed true to the characters and themes of the story. And some of the comic freaks which are the manga freaks like you for FMA STILL bitch, moan, and complain about the differences in the changes.
You are getting into semantics, this is really not a big deal for me. It was a great visual moment, and it was done to show that it was still the homunculus manipulating people and events. Envy made them fly for a second and they blew up. That's all there is to it.
If they didn't tell us what he uses, it makes it to be a hole. When people start thinking there's something strange and "what did he do there?" and don't have an answear, that's a hole in the plot.
Just because the artists don't tell you everything doesn't mean there's a plot hole.
And by the way, when you finish reading the manga and extras... you'll see that Envy's only power is changing his own form, not reviving anything, or animating it, nor anything he could do with the birds. Correct me if I'm wrong.
So if in the off-chance that in the manga he does something else...will you throw a hissy-fit? Originally in the comics, Peter Parker doesn't shoot webbing out of his wrists like he does in the movies, does that piss you off as well?
He just says "I hate you because you have the same blood as him", you can imagine anything by that.
And yet myself and others were able to accurately surmise that the person Envy was talking about was Ed's father, who obviously had some sort of dark past with Envy. Foreshadowing, allusions, whatever.
You don't know what I'm talking about? See episode 28 and episode 3 where Al is in the water and noone says anything and doesn't make a fuss of it. And then see episode 44 and tell me there's nothing strange with that XD
Episode 3 he just falls in a shallow area. Episode 28, he wasn't completely submerged.

[quoteYou can't prove it either, so don't afirm "you are WRONG" with all your willpower, it makes me think of you as "it's like that because I say so".
Yes I can. Because being the philsopher's stone gives Al power he didn't have before, and that he could finally FEEL Ed when he was powered up was a big revelation, and Al was finally able to feel him again.
Well that's the kind of things I keep seeing you guys complaining about tongue.gif .
See it as whatever you want. You can take it or leave it.
Just because they are unanswered questions doesn't make them mistakes. It just means you aren't smart enough to figure it out for yourself tongue.gif .
But I would like to know what do you think that "Real Mistakes while adapting an story" are for you (no meaning of offense here).
In the Constantine movie, making the character American, totally stiff and not charismatic or surly at all. He hates Heaven and God, but he constantly grovels and tries to buy his way into Heaven, something Constantine would never do. He hates Heaven, but he constantly uses Holy Water, crucifixes, and Bible verses as weapons to excorcise demons. Things in Christianity which are a symbol of faith in God and protection from evil.

He also uses a Holy Shotgun, something Constantine would never and has never used.
Yeah, it was a great moment, but I think they should have explain it, I was like "huh??? since when does he feel again???! O.o".
I'm not an idiot, I was able to see it, enjoy it, and figure it out. I think good stories are the ones that DON'T try to explain every little detail. I was able to see the answers, and I figured it out that way, I don't need to have every minute detail spelled out for me like you.
To me it looks like he changes into the serpent image on the Ourobouros tattoo.

And to me, despite the fantasy elements, I find FMA to be a very real anime, that is the interaction between the characters and the emotions they feel.
No they don't. How does a spider-bite give a teenager super powers? They never go into great detail about it, it just does. And now he can shoot webbing out of his wrists, something he could never do in the comics before. In the comics he had mechnical gauntlets with web cartidges in them for that, but the movies totally did away with that. To this day, fanboys STILL complain about it.

It was never confirmed because it was never said! This is only based on what we saw.

In one episode, Envy transforms his arm into a spike to impale Ed.
When people call it "shameful, pathetic, and pitiful" and they talk about how it butchered the manga. I see it as an attack. And I am going to defend the anime from what I believe is erroneous bullshit. So whatever.

Mod edit: First off, please don't double-post. You've been here long enough to know that it's against the rules. Next: You've been unnecessarily rude throughout this thread and many others concerning the movie. People aren't pleased with the movie or the series; okay. Get over it, please. "Its not because they have different opinions its because they are spreading false BS and crap that isn't true. And I'm debunking it." What false BS and crap? You've been attacking their opinions on the series, whether it be their unsatisfaction with the movie or their unsafisfaction with irregularities and holes in the storyline. They say that Al's being able to "feel" Ed's warmth was a plothole; You say it's not. You have every right to say it, but not to force what you consider the "facts" down their throats. More than a few members have already stated their displeasure with the way you have been responding to people's posts. I'm aware that it takes more than one person to have an argument, though, so this is everyone's first and final warning to stop until you all discover the meaning of civility.

I personally think that anime shows shouldnt have parts where people say "WTF? what's that about?" and even though I like the anime, there were parts that DID NOT make sense. And I mean, Al was so important to Ed, if my brother could die by having water touch a certain area, I'd make sure he never got NEAR water, much less partially submerging him. And you dont need to call people stupid, no matter what your opinion is. Envy still doesn't look like the serpent on the tattoo to me....he looks just like any ordinary chinese dragon.....

People are already judging the movie without ever having seen it and already saying that sucks. Sue me if I think that's unreasonable.

Don't assume just because you are aware of continuity errors for certain artistic works that you are smarter than the creators or the artists. A lot of artists are aware of continuity errors and just say, "oh well, there's a mistake."

And if you are smarter then them, let's see you create an anime series that's just as epic, brutal, emotional, bitter-sweet, and poignant.

Are people are judging the movie? Yes. Are you judging the movie? Of course you are. Otherwise you wouldn't have an opinion of the movie (as I think I'm correct to say that you've said before that the movie was great and the ending was great, etc etc). Forums are great places to have discussions and if you become hypocritical, it becomes amusing. Correct me, if you have actually watched the film, and I will apologise for calling you hypocritical.

I have to agree with the moderator (and probably many people who have answered to this thread) that you were being rude about people's opinions. Actually, a better description is that you seem to be on a crusade to crush all proponents of negative comments towards the series/film like you're the champion of FMA - it's quite amusing actually. smile.gif While a forum wouldn't be as interesting if there wasn't a difference of opinions, you don't necessarily have to be rude about people's opinions. But in any case, thanks to you, I think the thread's become even more interesting to read smile.gif tongue.gif

I just finished watching all 51 episodes, and I have to say what an awful, awful series that was. Love the manga, but the anime is steaming pile of dog poop. For those of you who haven't watched all of it and don't want any spoilers, you should stop reading this now.

***SPOILERS BELOW***

***SPOILER WARNING***

First of all, the basic premise doesn't make any sense. The great secret behind The Gate is that it links to Europe during World War I and II? What a bunch of mindless pedagogy. "Oh gee, war is bad!" Thanks for the memo, what a shocker. The show never missed an opportunity to grandstand on the obvious, like how killing innocent people is wrong, people should not be greedy or ruthless, children should honor their parents, blah blah blah. Who needs the petty moralizing? What a giant waste of my time. When it's not spitting out some incomprehensible nonsense about the cosmic order of the universe, it's delivering some grade school lesson about war. On a sidenote, I also find it ironic that a Japanese television should would select Germany to deliver the lecture on countries who wage war on innocent people--where's the rape of Nanking? I guess it's easier to stuff generalizations down the throats of your audience when you're pointing the finger at someone else.

That show is 17 hours of buildup for no psychological payoff. If Dante was controlling all of the homunculi, how about a little mroe background information on her? Or Hohenheim? Instead there's a lot of weepy, maudlin scenes where Ed and Al have to Do the Right Thing, Even If It Hurts. Snooze. It's a boring, one-dimensional show with little or no character depth. Like, could Al be any more of a whiner? I kept hoping he would die so I wouldn't have to listent to him complain and whine constantly. In fact, the most interesting character is actually Scar, but he is poorly used as a foil to Edward.

The only thing I can hope for is that the manga doesn't turn out as bad.

But somehow I doubt it.
Singhay
If you didnt like it... you shoulda stopped at Episode 50...
Guest
FMA the anime isn't a steaming pile of dog poop. It might be an overly dramatic, too heavy on the angst, bad piece of writing anime, but it ain't no dog poop... It is better than some anime though it definitely ain't the best either.
Singhay
On a serious note....

Before you get half way through the Series you find out "Oh gee, war is bad!", why didn't you stop there?

Reasons why MAYBE Amestris was a mock of Europe during WWI and WWII not Japan.
Alchemy never reached Japan. (I could be wrong, I know it was in China)
Alchemy in Asia was used for medicine.
The Military of Japan was never like the Military in FMA.
Its not too appealing to Japanese viewers to have Japanese characteristics in an Anime. But on the other hand... give the Characters different sounding names... different colored skin... BAM it'll attract people.

Yeah maybe they rather blame killing innocent people on another country but would FMA be as exciting as it is if it was set as a mock- WWII Japan era?

Don't you realize this Anime series isn't just about War and how bad it could be? I mean can't you see this is also a coming of age series? Yeah theres tons of that too but I think your the one thats one-dimentional. Its merely for entertainment and yeah maybe learn a lesson or two, if you haven't learned it from the other "Oh gee, war is bad!" Anime series. I still don't understand why you didn't stop when you realized this was another "Oh gee, war is bad!" Anime series.
