Yes, there is many threads discussing about manga. Go to the forums main page and click 'Full Metal Alchemist Manga' below 'Full Metal Alchemist Anime'. (Yes I'm utterly lazy and I didn't give you a link because of that.)
sasamilove
As far as I know, judging from what I saw in the FMA "shambara" movie, at that time he honestly did not remember.

He did'nt know at all, but at the end of the movie he got them back for "Equivalent Exchange" for passing through the gate the final time i believe. smile.gif
The New Fullmetal Alchemist
Agh, you guys beat me to it! laugh.gif

Yeah,
at the end of the series, Al honestly did not remember anything that had transpired while he was a suit of armor - once he got his body back, he got his "original" mind back, too (ie his mind and memory up to the point where they transmuted their mom... Pretty sad... But no, he wasn't pretending. He just had a sense of certian things, like how Ed was like, even though he didn't conciously remember him doing many things, such as the red coat and clapping of the hands - although it is possible that someone told him about those things...
Semiotic Alchemist
Yeah that's right I guess.
Because he had known about the gate and how to get his brother back the first time. I just thought that his wish to bring his brother back implied that he knwe where he was and what had transpired between them. But it does make sense, because I remember they spoke of that Al's early premetal memories were faded or nonexistent.

But here's another one: what was the purpose of Roses baby in summoning the gate? It seemed as if Dante had to sacrifice the child to the gate in order to summon it, yet there was the baby again every time, and it had nothing unhuman about it. It only had that transmutation circle on him. of course this is with the anime rationale.
don't read that if you're not far in the story. . . or else santa won't come for you ,. . . .
Reta McClain
Semiotic Alchemist:
Dante didn't sacrifice the baby. She used it to open the Gate. Why the baby? Because the link between body, mind and soul is weaker and this way the baby is more closely connected to the Gate than we older people. It's almost same thing with the near death experiences, 'cause the link is weakening as life is leaving from the body.
I hope that helped.
Arsid
I have a question about the Gate... WHAT THE HECK IS IT? I just watched ep 29 and i don't get it at all. could someone help?
Reta McClain
Arsid: Gate of Truth is source of alchemical energy. The alchemists who have seen it, don't need a transmutation circle. They see it, if they try Human Transmutation. (No, Al doesn't remember seeing it.)
Other alchemists (Roy, Armstrong, Al for example) just pour the alchemical energy from it via transmutation circles.

Was that explanation confusing enough?
The New Fullmetal Alchemist
Not a bad explanation! happy.gif

the Gate is basically like a portal - that's really all you need to know, though, until the final episodes - I don't want to spoil it for you! AFter you've seen the whole series, come back and ask again if you're still not certain. For now all you really need to know is that it is the source of alchemical energy that alchemists tap into in order to manipulate the things around them in order to perorm alchemy.
Arsid
Right, also how many homunculi are there?

Lust
Glutton
Envy
Greed
Wrath

How many more are there?
Chiyo
Arsid; there is also a Pride and a Sloth
Tombow
^^ Yap, Chiyo is right.
They are "Seven Sins." smile.gif
Arsid
So what are their powers?

Lust - finger stretch
Glutton - eats everything
Envy - morph
Greed - ?
Wrath - ?
Pride - ?
Sloth - ? (also is sloth that one brown-haired person)

Let's see if I remember right...
(Please highlight to read)
Greed has Ultimate shield (turn skin to tough armor)
Wrath can perform transmutation (sort of)
Pride has Ultimate eye that can foresee what the opponent would do, and he is super fast, too.
Sloth can turn to liquid/water
I'm sure others can add better explanation!! laugh.gif
Funderful
Correct you are.

And yes, she is that "brown haired person".
Is Lust created when Ed tried to recreate his mom?
???
Is Lust created when Ed tried to recreate his mom?
???
Nop.
Lust was crated when Scar's brother tried human transmutation.
Ed's attempt created Sloth.
smile.gif
The New Fullmetal Alchemist
Go Tombow! Two in a row! laugh.gif
Arsid
So.... I don't get something.
HOW DO HOMUNCULI DIE?!?!?!??????
So.... I don't get something.
HOW DO HOMUNCULI DIE?!?!?!??????

They seem immortal, but that's not true. They contain philosopher's stones inside them and that makes them to regenerate. When the stone's energy is all used up, then next time that homunculus get killed, no more regeneration, hence it dies.
Lysander
Go Tombow! laugh.gif <--Totally Off Topic
Arsid
So all you need to do is
hurt them a whole bunch so that they use up all their regenerative power then you kill them?
OT: Lysander and The New Fullmetal Alchemist!! laugh.gif
You guys can pitch in anytime, you know... biggrin.gif
Mudkipblader
I think I might add something about it.
Homunculi get weaker when they are near to something from there former selves; like the piece of hair from Lust, the ashes of Ed's mom (for Sloth) The alchemy of that piece can be activated with a special transmutation circle and then is the Homunculi no longer able to move.
Hope that might help.
Reta McClain
Mudkipblader: Almost. It was right up to the point about ashes. There wasn't cremation with Trisha. It was the normal way to bury; body in the big, wooden box and the whole thing into hole in the craveyard.
Mudkipblader
Oh I didn't know that. The box seems quite small to me.
Reta McClain
How come? We don't see that box, well, coffin (I didn't remember it was called 'coffin'...) in the series...

Only tombstone and flagstone(?) before it on the ground...
Arsid
Also when Greed asked who Lust was in the shack (before Dante's house fight scene) she said
"im the new lust"
what did she mean?

That, there was
another humunclus who was called Lust, before the current one. The last one, we assume, died tho there was no mention of any info about the last one in the anime. Then when this one was created she was chosen as the next Lust.
smile.gif
Arsid
so, technically nothing happened? (besides lust looking a little different now)

Well yeah, we assume
Last Lust died, and she looked very different, and basically, different person (if we call a humoncli a "person") from current Lust.
smile.gif
Arsid
4 more questions for now

1.)
So the first Lust in eps 1-20/30 was made by Scar's brother when he tried human transmutation. Then the "new" Lust is a different homunculus made from a different human transmutation. Am I right on this? (yes or no question, if no explain)
2.)
Does the New Lust have extendable fingers?(yes or no)
3.)When homunculi are created where to they appear?
(Like when Sloth was created where did sloth come into the world?)
4.)
When the "new" Lust comes do we ever see the old Lust again? (because on ep 35 there's a Lust that looks like the old one and the lust in ep 35 has memories so she can't be new...)
Oh, no no, maybe I wasn't clear.. sorry about that.. what we see in this anime series is the one and the same.
Different Lust was supposed to be existed loooong time ago, for example, could be 100 years ago or something. The Lust in this anime are all one and the same Lust.
biggrin.gif

3.)When homunculi are created where to they appear?
(Like when Sloth was created where did sloth come into the world?)

Do you remember Ed doing human transmutation, and whatever Ed created showed up in the transmutation circle?? That's more or less how they appeared when they were "born." They look kinda ugly, to say the least, don't they?? Then they were "nurtured" to become those sins. Except Wrath. He had a little different "ubringing," so to speak.
biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Arsid @ Nov 2 2006, 07:16 AM)

No...
As far as we know they did not exist at the same time. Only one Lust at a time. Last one died, then some time has past, then this Lust we know had been created. We only see this Lust in the anime series.
So, out of my curiosity, how far in the series you are now?? Up to how many episode have you watched?? Depending on that, there are some examples I might be able to bring up, and that might help you visualizing those stuff better.. biggrin.gif

Arsid
(im on ep 41 now)

I have a couple more questions

1.)
Whats Archer up to? Is he evil? What was with Tucker and all the State Alchemist watches?
2.)What the heck is the grand arcanum?
The New Fullmetal Alchemist
Haha! laugh.gif Sorry for not jumping in sooner, Tombow, but I was having some problems getting on the site!

@ Arsid - I thought I answered that Lust/New Lust one for you already? smile.gif Hmm... maybe not... Anyway! Moving on! smile.gif

1) Yup, Archer's evil! laugh.gif !! He's up to quite a bit, although at this point in the series his motives aren't entirely clear, other than
he wants to go to war because he enjoys it... that and he doesn't like Mustang, so he kind of wants to get rid of him, too... Basically, he just likes making things go "splodey"
2) As for our dear Chimera-Tucker and those watches,
He's putting fake philosopher's stones in them (ie red stones) to amplify the alchemists' alchemy. Possibly also to be used as part of the large philosopher's stone - you know, give you more bang for your buck - or your soldier.
Make sense? If not, let me know, ok? Ok, I'm ready for more questions! smile.gif (Tombow, you and I ought to tag-team, or something! laugh.gif)
Arsid
1.)
when homunculi are created they are weird looking things. How do they get from alien looking things to human looking things?
2.)I still don't get what
tucker's doing with the watches. If Ed had used it wouldn't it have helped him? I thought you said Archer was evil, if he was evil he wouldn't be helping Ed.
3.)AND NO ONE ANSWERED MY QUESTION ABOUT "what the heck is the grand arcanum?

2.)
It would've but the red stone wasn't supposed to be there in the first place. And regarding Archer, he isn't helping Ed. In one episode he took the bribe from Kimbley and in another episode he mentioned, though not exact words, "Fullmetal should be dead by now." He said that without proof.
3.)
The grand arcanum is alchemy to the Ishbalans. Not sure though laugh.gif And by the way, you should avoid capitalizing letters without reason. It was only a matter of time before someone answered you. smile.gif
(Sorry but Tombow you answered the answers the completely, we just have to cheer you on! laugh.gif )
OOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, so then if Ed had used the watch with red stones in it, it would have malfunctioned and blew up or something?
?????

Arsid
OH YA! (sorry)
Arsid
sorry for double post but i have another question
can you use alchemy to do things as well cause in one episode ed blew up a heat vent and in ep 43 he made the two military guys all bloated

what is up with leera being dante? and ed and al's dad? what do they mean by using bodies??!?!?!?!???
sweety_pie
Hohenhiem, and Dante need young bodies, because when they get old, they use a philosophers stone to switch their bodies into the younger ones.
Leera was Dantes apprentice in alchemy, but Dante just used her to help herself live forever, by transfering her soul into Leeras body.
Sorry, I do not understand the first question, can you reword it please.
And also, you could edit your first post.
