I suddenly feel like tracing my family history.

Wow, impressive and interesting family history.

Makes me want to know what my ancestors did. I never did find out.
At least if you lose the family fortune, you won't have to see the fights for it once someone dies and leaves no will (speaking from experience).
And wow, you came to America really early.

you know... due to the lengthy past and the open government position testing of china, almost every chinese person will find some really interesting stuff if they dig back far enough. though many records are probably all gone/destroyed now due to the many military conflicts of china's past, unless you family personally kept them that is. in fact many chinese people carry some tiny amount of imperial ancestry in their bloddline due to the fact that most emperors had at least 20 wives.

Ahh, that's true. Thanks for the info.

Well, at least I'll have something to talk about with my grandparents next time I see them. If I find out anything interesting I suppose I'll post it.

Meh, I knew I sucked at telling Asians apart. It's strange though, because Dutch people always ask if I'm Chinese, while Indonesians always go and say: "You're Indonesian, aren't you?" >_> Even though I and my lil' Brother take more after my Father, while my Brother and Sister take more after my Mother. Dad's got more foreign blood in him. German, Dutch, general European... Back on topic, to me it's weird how they're able to do that.

i guess this was one of those threads i missed in my absence, so here goes:
100% chinese, with family records that go back over 30 generations. my family, on my father's side, was one of the most dominant family's in the an hwei for over 12 generations before the communists. we were primarily military men that were also doctors and politicians. our 19 generations of military service ended at my grandfathers generation, when we were forced to flee to taiwan and my grandfather died of a disease contracted when the allies forced the chinese to fight in india. the family fortune was lost and my grandmother, a woman born to privledge that never worked a day in her life, was left penniless and with 11 children. after that there came a new rule in the chen family, anyone who joins the military gets disowned.
my mother's side are of one of the first families that went to taiwan from fu jian. they were primarily landowners and businessmen. there really aren't any interesting stories on this side of the family, except maybe the fact that most of downtown taipei was owned by her side of family at one point or another.
i personally was born in taipei, taiwan and came to the us at the age of 1.

not offended, more at annoyed after years of this crap coming from folk from the old world, and their brainwashed "chinese are only supposed to act a certain way" crap spewing offspring.
does how i act remove any of the melanin from my skin? will i get less racism for this? why must all the old ways be the only ways?
your kind sickens me... you believe, like a tortoise hiding in its shell, that if you stand still and just act like the world around is not changing is the way to endure the trails of time. its not, you have to adapt to your enviroment.
its because of people like you that we are the silent minority. it is because of your kind that we are perceived as fu man chu wearing coolies that are good for nothing but numbers and acupunture.

the problems facing the modern day chinese don't bother you and you call me not chinese? ok fine i'll drop it...
but understand none of this crap that you always seem to start with me ever goes anywhere and is never started by me... so either:

I consider pride in one's heritage to be a piss-poor crutch for people who have nothing genuine to pride themselves on.
Plus, I don't like all the wacky neuroses I've picked up from my father's side of the family [Ashkenazi Jews], or the nearsightedness and history of cancer on my mother's side [Ukrainians].
