Super Mario World 3 was my first video game...I still rember that i could never could beat the star map. You needed a blue yoshie to fly and something else but I could never get it done.

IPB Image

The place you warp to when you get to the middle star. I got to the second stage....and failed thereafter

I love ALL mario games, i had trouble with the star think laugh.gif

I don't like to run like an idiot and not even know where i'm going, and you can't even enjoy the graphics either..... tongue.gif

Yes, the original Mario Bros. (see sig) is very fun as is the old Zelda games

I agree! Can't beat the classics, and unlike other games, I could just play those for days without getting bored! biggrin.gif
Kyros
I haven't played an older game in a while, which makes sense cuz they're OLD hehe... Well, there are some really good games that are still as good as, if not better, than some of the stuff out now. For instance, Shining Force II and FFVI pwn lotsa stuff that's new or still popular. I'm not saying there aren't good games now, I just still like some of the older stuffs smile.gif

If you want an answer so bad Zarpia i will tell you. The sonic games are fun because it took 2D gaming to it's limits!
It's because the bosses were so fun to fight. And the most important Thing.......... Its the only really good game that came out for sega. laugh.gif
~.:Anime_Gal:.~
my 1st ever game i played was a mario and luigi game, i forgot what it was called cause it was all in Japanese ><
SONIC GAMES RULE!!!!!! it was my (you could say) 1st english game i ever played, i think it was sonic and knuckles
Heartless_Soldier
cool.gif Anime Gal you picked the best english game to start with.
Quistis88
I managed to find a used copy of Mario Paint for SNES for $5.00! Oh, the nostalgia.

I am ecstatic. However, I haven't tried it yet, as the console is at home, and the store said I needed the mouse. I remember playing it nearly a decade ago with the controller though, and it worked just fine. We'll see how it goes. Thank goodness for return policies.

d00d are you crazy?! did you ever play any of the phantasy star or shining force games?! those were insanely awesome, and are better than some big titles now like the stupid gta series (bleh)
halomasta
No, What do ya think their making new games for?
Duh! dry.gif
Kyros
Well, apparently they're not making most as good as phantasy star and shining force. Halo is a good example of this. It is a mediocre first person shooter...yay...*shoots master chief in face* There's also FFVII, IX, and X2, none of which are as good as phantasy star or shining force games (the classic ones on genesis smile.gif). Legend of Dragoon is now kinda old since it did come out several years ago, and it pwns lotsa games right now too.
elalquimistafilosofal
some like FF VII, VIII, IX
Heartless_Soldier
mellow.gif Hold on a sec Kyros. I didn't mean to insault. Your right I haven't played many other sega games. And
some of the other sega games I have played like all the sonics and phantasy star do beat some of the korny games
there maken now a days. However some people just have diffent taste in games and you can't blame them for that.

And what wrong with halo one? The story line was great.
adamclark
i'd say that a few old games are still fun.

final fantasy vii in my mind is still a great game. i don't think they've made a better rpg.

but it does get old. and, alas, we are crave newer better games.

as the technology improves, we need better games.

we need more games like mercenaries. that is an awesome game
elalquimistafilosofal
i agree with you, but i like more yhe FF VIII laugh.gif laugh.gif

Um, I don't think FFVII is anywhere close to being one of the best rpgs >.> It's okay I guess but there are tons better...LoD, FFVI, FFVIII, FFX, Star Ocean, Disgaea, Shining Force, Shining Force II, Ark the Lad Twilight of the Spirits, Vandal Hearts, Vandal Hearts II, and Vagrant Story are nice examples smile.gif I don't care for random destruction in games either cuz there's no point most of the time...haven't played mercenaries and don't care to cuz it's advertised like this so yeah >.>

As far as Halo is concerned...bleh. There might as well not be much of a story to any shooting games in my opinion cuz all you do is the same thing over and over...little/no customization factors or anything.

In conclusion, there are tons of older games that pwn much more than the new ones =P Sure, there are some newer ones that hold their own and are awesome but many are overrated (like FFVII is/was).
Heartless_Soldier
Well Kyros I guess your just not a first person shooter fan. Ill take your advice and check out legends of dragon or shinig force
just to see if there as good as you say they are.

But the way you dised halo that was Heartless.......Nice one laugh.gif
adamclark
fvii is definitely not overrated. it was one of the highest rated game ever for the playstation. you might not like it compaired to other rpgs, but it still was one of the best.

mercenaries is much more than destruction. it is a multileveled, intricate game with many challenges and adventures. one of the perks is blowing up stuff.

i agree though about halo, i really don't like the whole franchise.

ffviii had some definite improvements over vii, but i still didn't enjoy the story as much. but that is just my preference.
StrawberryShampoo
FFVII was fun but there is a limit to how often I can play it.
Two old games from the playstation that I still play are Breath of Fire III and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Side note:(Symphony was on Gamespots: Greatest games of all time list.)

I still play a lot of old games besides these. IMO some of the older games had better story, and maybe there graphics weren't great but the stories more than made up for it. Like I said this is only my opinion.
Matt Perry
Final Fantasy Tactics, just as one example as an old fun game.

I believe most are. Unless you played them through more times then a hooker is paid in a month. wink.gif

((Sorry if any of your mothers/fathers/siblings are hookers, I am not prejudice. It is simply a gross analogy.))

I can't say that I can agree with the FFVII comments but whatever, don't care to argue over the fact that I think it's just plain okay. As far as mercenaries is concerned I might play it sometime but I don't know. Right now I have 30037429084792 games that I still haven't beaten, some of which I haven't gotten far into, so I'm gonna concentrate on those for now smile.gif
Fan_Alchemist
I find some of them still enjoyable.

Do you mean like super nitendo?
Heartless_Soldier
Were talking about all old games
StrawberryShampoo
@Fan_Alchemist--Yes. Super nintendo counts but it's more than just games on that console. You can talk about just about any game that was made a while ago. (i.e.---playstation, sega, gameboy original, snes, nes, ...atari O.o and any other old platform.....)
Fan_Alchemist
Well I like...

Jurassic Park
Kirby
Final Fantasy 9, 8, 10. (I wish had Final Fantasy 7.)

I'll add more later.
Heartless_Soldier
YES!!!!!!!!!!! Some one else who loved jurassic park the game!

YES!!!!!!!!!!! Some one else who loved jurassic park the game!

It's hot, right? My dad even played it and everytime he bent down he said, "I dropped my cigarettes." Also when he walked and stood by the edge of the woods he would say, "Taking a piss." God, I love my daddy. biggrin.gif
Heartless_Soldier
blink.gif Ummmm ok. laugh.gif Oh wel Jurassic park the game is still really good. Unlike donkey kong which is in 2D but it still an awsome game . Jurassic Park was ine of the first reall 3D game for super nintendo.
-Kr!zY-
one of my favs from ages ago would probably be Alex the Kidd on the Sega ms2-ah, good times. lol
RocketJess
Eighty posts discussing cool old games and not a single mention of Commander Keen. It's just not good enough.

=P

So yeah... I'm a huge fan of DOS games. Keen, Cosmo, Hocus Pocus, Jazz Jackrabbit, Supaplex, Jill of the Jungle... other stuff I can't think of right now... they rock. happy.gif

Unfortunately I don't have any old consoles, so I haven't experienced the joys of retro console gaming. I have Kirby's Dreamland for GB though. That's fun.
The_golden_alchemist
Does Super Mario RPG count? well anyways i love it

Also tetris, heh yeah its probably the most overrated old-game but its addicting really

Oh and Contra, Sonic, Mortal kombat (oohh! I spelled it with a K!!!), oh and does Earthbound count?
zombie
anyone play MDK 2?
Heartless_Soldier
I have and it was awsome! laugh.gif
Ueki
i have games like crono trigger and street fighter from the 1990s and 2000 and theyre still fun
Rave
I think Ninja Giden (or however you spell it) was a really cool game for the Nintendo.
LoMXD
I really like old games like ff7 and tetris
Ektor
Me,
Star Wars: Dark Forces and Dark Forces 2:Jedi Knight
Sim City 2000
Sim Tower
and Prince of Persia 1 and 2

Does anybody still play games from like 2000 or stuff like that, cus i still do. Even though some of the games graphics are old and outdated to me some of them are still cool. 1 of my favorite games from the past is Dark Cloud. Why dont some of you tell me some of your favorite old games?

ph34r.gif, Just Like A Sneaky Ninja

From 2000? Try a few years back laugh.gif The oldest game system I have is a NES, but the oldest console game(PSX), would probably be Resident Evil 1 which dates back to March 30, 1996... Even now the game still kinda gives me the chills...
Kyo Kusanagi
I still have my brother's copy of Starblaze from the TRS-80 (Trash 80) from 1983 and I downloaded Dungeons of Daggorath (It still scares the crap out of me).
I still have my NES in working condition on my VCR, which my sister and I occasionally play Castlevania 3 on... The Japanese version is so much better!! mad.gif
Edamame
I still enjoy playing FF6 although the graphics are far out-dated by today's standards. I still have a great time playing it.
aprilshowers
Anyone remember the game Actraiser for the SNES? I can't get the music from the first level out of my head! wacko.gif If it rings a bell or if you're just curious, click here. Yes, this is the level music that's stuck in my head.
Blitz
Er.... My brother and I still have our SuperNes and quite a game collection for it and I still have my GameBoy Color if that counts as old.
HalfAsian Alchemist
Games from 2000 are old?! No, try games on a Sega Genesis. Those are old, but some are still good, like Sonic or Battletoads. Btw, Sonic could totally waste Mario!
Emerald Alchemist
Yeah, old games are still awesome. I still love playing Sonic and Mortal Kombat on my Sega, they never seem to amaze me in terms of addiction.

Another game that I find is REALLY addictive, is Super Mario Brothers (The very first one) it was incredibly hard for it's time, brilliant game indeed! happy.gif
Miyuki-chan
some old games are still fun but others are so boring
Kas
Hello

I think that the old games are cool, the older soccer games are so funny
Megaman Soccer is the perfect example
Kitty Alchemist
All the old mario game are still fun to play.
Demon x
I like mortal kombat 4 1997 and mk trilogy and (the adventure of little Ralph) it's old and lame and played then my brother came and said what are you playing are you crazy or something! And woke up and what am I doing? And I found out how lame it is! well anyway Mario games are fun to play too but the ultimate game is castle vania
symphony of night it's a 2d game that I'll never forget it's filled with secrets and it is an always fight adventure in Dracula's castle and it isn't horror and it has riddles and it is really a memorable game the character is un-like all castle vania games is Alucard Dracula's son ! And you'll know the story, and it has two endings whether you finished the game knowing that or not! If you went through all the castle with its areas and levels and killed all of their bosses you then have to go to the center of the castle which is a huge clock tower and use a special two rings their description is mysterious? you just have to get it!, each ring completes the other's description not completely you have to figure out how and when, and it's all about leveling-up you may be strong to defeat strong! bosses you may not encounter all of them! See the game is filled with secrets! Then you have to go and fight with a wizard then with Richter Belmont who is someone's mission? in the game that does not appear a lot and you know that she's here to find Richter who has been missing since he fought with Dracula so you say why not if encountered let her know you fight with him once before but after you killed that wizard you go and find out that he possessed him well actually you don't find out but when fighting you see something behind him a sphere actually, well if you defeated him the castle is destroyed and end of story BUT if you had attacked and destroyed the sphere behind him instead of him the STORY goes a totally different direction the castle instead of being destroyed an upside down copy castle appears and guess what you have to repeat everything again but UPSIDE DOWN do you know how long is that! well after fulfilling his purpose killing his father and destroying the castle Richter is back and everybody (actually only two I think) they ask him what is he going to do next he said life…over...Something well anyway he said that and never back...
Maybe I didn't say that in a good way the game is better really...
