Alright, it's a Miyazaki so you know it's good. But after rigorously (am I using that right?) searching show times, i discovered that it's playing absolutely NOWHERE in my town. The closest is Chicago! Jees...I doubt my parent's will drive me all the way out there...

*cries* someone hug me!!
Gato Gurl914
i wont see it till dvd release either! WAHHHHHHH! *hugs*
Luckyalchemy27
It looks really cute. I've never actually seen an anime movie before, except for the Inuyasha movie on TV.

Oooooh! It's playing in Chicago? Maybe I can get my sister to drive me there...

I saw it last night, downloaded it, yes I'm impatient.

It's pretty good. The story starts out really good then it starts to get a bunch of plot holes toward the middle but none the less I enjoyed it. I'm sure it's spectacular on the big screen I would see it again so I can watch it in it's full glory. the DL I have was fuzzy and I'm sure left out a lot of detail in the animation.
Slashrose1010
laugh.gif How fortuitous. I DLed it a few days ago but haven't had the time ti watch it. I will probably watch it tomorrow. I saw an ad for it on a website, of all things to lure me to DL a movie. It looks pretty good though, and the director or whatever received acclaim for his Spirited Away movie.
Envy's lil' miniskirt
Miyazaki is acclaimed for almost everything he did. But story wise this wasn't one of his best works.

I resent him being called the Walt Disney of Japan since Miyazaki's films have orginal storys.

Ah, I have only heard of Spitited Away. Yes, Disney is a theif. Possibly more so than Nixon tongue.gif
Envy's lil' miniskirt
Definately more so, they've been doing it longer. laugh.gif

I was at the American Premiere of the Dub on Monday. biggrin.gif
The movie is amazing, no surprise since it is a Studio Ghibli film, and Miyazaki is a genius.

It was quite different from the original book, and there were quite a few tangents where he included something that was really important to the story in the book, yet made no sense what-so-ever in the movie. I was particularly amused by the way they called the charecter "Michael" "Markl" even in the dub. Oh wells.

It was good as far as dubs go, so I highly recomend it. I still havn't seen it in Japanese though, so I guess I'm going to wait until the DVD comes out. I was particularly pleased since Diana Wynne Jones has always been a favorite Author of mine, and Howl's Moving Castle was one of my favorite things to read when I was younger. If you have never read anything by her I recomend all of it, no matter how old you are. She's been writting Young Adult Fantasy for decades now, and was one of J.K. Rowlings main influences for Harry Potter.

..Mostly what I found at that premiere is that I can be stealthy lil' ninja when I want to... because in my fear someone I knew would see me there with my parents, I somehow managed to hide from my best friend... neither of knew the other was there 'till the next day, when we attempted to make the other jealous. ph34r.gif

;_; It's not fair...They probably only show it in really big cities.

Hey, Disney's not that bad.

Well, not nearly as good as Ghibli, but still...

I'd love to see this! I'm such a Ghibli fan! happy.gif If you haven't seen more Ghibli films, then for goodness sake, why not? (Princess Mononoke is my favorite. <3)
animejunkie429800
hey, where do you know where the website is? i wanna see if they have one in Los Angeles. I'll probably won't go there, but no hurting in trying right?

i haven't really looked up what this movie is about, but from the promos on TV, i dont think it will be as exciting as princess mononoke and spirited away. im probably wrong, so blame the commercials. >.<
POTOPHREAK
Saw it some time in Easter holiday cause I live in Hong Kong. It was really really good (it's Miyazaki afterall), though I like Spirited Away slightly more.
Hagane no Renzy
Arrgh, so many peeps have seen it already.

Well, after much hardship, I'm takin' a trip downtown Chicago to see it with my friend's family and my big bro. smile.gif Awesome.

I think the problem was that it's from a book and they couldn't fit all of the book in the movie so they left some stuff out that would of helped make sense. I got a little lost about halfway through the movie. I think if I would of read the book I would of been able to follow the movie better.

I agree.

While I did enjoy the movie overall, I thought that the story-line was lacking a little bit. I had a lot of questions that didn't get answered, but at least the ending wasn't disappointing wink.gif
~.:Anime_Gal:.~
well my mums seen the HUGE MOVIE in Japan, she said it was good
ive read the book! so good!
Lord Odenetheus
I'm amazed that you all call Miyazaki brilliant, etc. but refrains from calling the actual author brilliant. I read the book when I was smaller, and found it tremendously enjoyable.

I have yet to see the movie.

Is the cayenne part in it?
animefreak_zzz
the book is most enjoyable...
there is even a sequal to it..has anibody read castle in the air..??
It is equally nice and Howl plays a small role in it at the end of the book...
The story is hilarious.... cool.gif rolleyes.gif

well i saw a new comercial that said its everywhere on the 17th....

hey!where did u download it from?i cant find its download.....
foolmetal alchemist
Did anyone else read the book?
Tenri Kage
I read the book...and had a hard time deciding which was better. The book was a great read and I really recommend it and the sequel to anyone who liked the movie. Unfortunately for me...the movie where I saw it was in the undubbed japanese... (I CAN'T SPEAK JAPANESE) so I had to read the subtitles that were (again) not in my native language. So I'll be going to see it as soon as I can. I want to be able to understand the whole story!!

Technically, this wasn't his story, he just made an animated movie of an already existing book.

Miyazaki changed a lot of the story from the book version. So a lot of the story is his own invention.
foolmetal alchemist
I didn't like the sequel much because it had hardly any relation to the first.
fullmetalalchemist27
O.o i just finished the book! O.o

I saw the movie a few days ago with my cousins. (Kinda surprised me that it was out in a theater near me.) The way I test whether or not a movie is worth paying $9.00 for is how I feel when I step outside into the sun after watching it. I'm usually bitter and grouchy and irritant over wasting an afternoon...but not this time. I was actually energized.

On a pointless note, I saw Batman Begins the night after and Howl's image wouldn't stop popping into mind whenever Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne, but also the voice of Howl in the dubbed version) spoke.

I must locate a copy of the book...
MasterKris
I finally watched the movie by downloading... in my opinion, it's confusing me very very much... blink.gif

How is Castle in the Sky a sequel to Howl's Moving Castle?? huh.gif
animejunkie429800
I'm looking for the book in Borders... *sigh*

I can't really find one. sleep.gif

I need to download the movie!
Seraphi
-waits patiently for it to come out on DVD- lol I would download it but my computer is crap right now, I'm gonna have to wait a couple more months before I get it downloaded.
DonnaDelDrago
I really look forward to see the movie.
It comes to our cinemas in September.
Looks like they really will show it here, although I live in a country without anime.
DarkHaze
I loved the book but I haven't seen the anime yet

Hmmm, this thread is quite old....
I think we are currently using another thread for more recent discussions on all of Miyazaki's anmime movies. I'll go look for it. biggrin.gif

Here you go:
Miyazaki's movie thread has more recent discussions on all of Hayao Miyazaki's anime movies, including Howl's Moving Castle. biggrin.gif

(Yap, I'm a big fan of his anime movies too!! happy.gif)
nataliel
Oh, don`t close please. Cause Miyazaki produced a number of movies, and it`s hard to discuss all of them just in one thread. After all, Howl deserves a thread for him biggrin.gif

As someone above had stated, Miyazaki is really genious!
As for the movie and the book, i think it`s quite interesting to observe the difference between them. They`re both oddly interesting and charming.
Of course, the movie (as any other anime dry.gif ) has some anime cliches stuck in it... But it`s still GREAT! And it`s much better then "Castle in the Sky".

@nataliel - As far as I know, I don't think anyone is recommending for closing this thread so far.
And, I agree that Miyazaki is an awsome artist, and "Hawl's" is a wonderful movie!!

But, (aside this thread) I think it makes sense to have one thread for all of Miyazaki's movie, instead of having one for each of his movie (and from studio Ghibli,) although, they are wonderful movies, each one in each own right, and fans of each movie might feel his/her fav movie surely deserves own thread!!
Because, if we start doing that, then we might end up with...

"Spirited Away" thread,
"Princess Mononoke" thread,
"Kiki's Delivery Service" thread,
"Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" thread,
"My Neighbor Totoro" thread,
and so on and on, in this forum.

But since this is "General anime" forum here, and NOT "Hayao Miyazaki" forum, and we have to share this forum for all Non-FMA anime, I think it's sensible to have one thread for Hayao Miyazaki's (and his Studio's) anime where we talk about all of his creations.

In fact, that is exactly what we have been doing on Miyazaki's movie thread, where you can find our recent & current discussions on all of Hayao Miyazaki's anime movies, including Howl's Moving Castle..

Hope you can join our discussions there for all of Miyazaki's movies. biggrin.gif
