<Merged "The Opening Credits, A question on how they differ" thread with2 pages of posts that starts on page 9 of this thread. Edited few posts to ensure the posts continuity, and confirmed posts continuities of both threads would survive the merge. 03/05 07 ~Tombow>

Official Opening and Ending Themes: (ETA: 03/02/07 by Tombow)
(Differs in U.S from the list below.. On Cartoon Network in the U.S., and on YTV's Bionix, "Ready Steady Go" and "Rewrite" were the only openings played, because of, as I heard, deals with L'Arc~en~Ciel and Asian Kung-Fu Generation to promote their songs.
However, the DVD released from FUNimation included all openings in their original places.)

FMA Opening Themes:
#1: "Melissa" by Porno Graffitti (eps 2-13)
#2: "Ready Steady Go" by L'Arc-en-Ciel (eps 14-25)
#3: "Undo" by Cool Joke (eps 26-41)
#4: "Rewrite" by ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION (eps 42-51)

FMA Ending Themes:
#1: "Melissa" by Porno Graffiti (ep 1)
#2: "Kesenai Tsumi (The Unerasable Sin)" by Nana Kitade (eps 2-13)
#3: "Tobira no Mukou e (To the Other Side of Door)" by YeLLOW Generation (eps 14-24)
#4: "Motherland" by Crystal Kay (eps 26-41)
#5: "I Will" by Sowelu (eps 42-50)

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet.

Which is your favorite FMA opening? Right now, I'm torn between 2 and 4.

Least favorite was 3... kind of a less dynamic opening compared to 2, so it felt like a downhill turn at first.

i think opening 4 is the best.....2nd is good too
Chibi Viki
i love "rewrite" the most! you should try listening to it while travel i.e. in a bus or train, or car... etc...

it almost feels like you're traveling with the Elric brothers... i travel a lot, you see... smile.gif
Omakase Shimasu
Hmm, I'm the first to vote for UNDO... I don't think it's really all that bad. (...well, obviously -___-;;) Melissa would be my second choice.
Prinz_Zoisit
my favorite is MELISSA it has got the best harmonies.... and i like the scene(i mentioned already many times) where the military officers approach.....
Kokoro no Hana
I wanna vote for all of them! laugh.gif
RolfKaese
so far rewrite is really cool and best of all OP :,3

i just have to sing as soon as the refrain comes...

XD~

but its sounds not that good since i try to sing high tones with my bass voice.. sometimes i dont try high tones and sing it in bass... sounds awesome then :>
L35747
2 and 4 for me thanks..
tainted_roses
i like all of them though my favorite would be melisaa AND rewrite=3
RolfKaese
well. i kind of dislike the "comment" behind the songs.. the season thingie... actually, there is only 1 season so far... might get people confused ^^
Sakura-chan
As I just sad in Rewrite topic is very cool. It brings you power and a good filling!!
So that's no question witch is the favorite ( for me ). biggrin.gif
ScaR
Rewrite ownz.... after that one it is Undo.... happy.gif

But i voted for rewrite
Prinz_Zoisit
hm, first i condemmned the intro REWRITE, but now, i don't find it soo terrible anymore...

I listen to it when I'm going to school and other places! biggrin.gif

I like op 1, 2, and 4 all the same... (op 3 is not too catchy)
But if I have to choose... it'd be:
1) op 2 --> very upbeat; I like the guitar and drum combination, though the vocal is not so good
2) op 1 --> I simply love the guitar in the background
3) op 4 --> I like the chorus part, but I think the second stanza can be cut off
Vx Tao Ren xV
It's so hard to choose!! My favorites are 2 and 4, but I absolutely love the animation in 2 (it's so refreshing after "Melissa" ^_^;;).. especially the scene with all of the military personnel ^_^, so therefore I voted for "Ready Steady Go".. although I do realize that the vocals are better in "Rewrite".. heh ^_^;;
Greed
i voted 4 the 3rd season. but i like 1 n 4th 2.

2nd 1 was boring espically wen they used english 2 say ready steady go. i skipped it everytime i watched it
Shinigami
Definatly 2 for me.

My two-cents: LOL, I love it when songs in anime use English but not appropriately and/or not making any sense. But I myself have always preferred English to my native language, so I understand the hype.

I've been wondering if in this song "back" is supposed to rhyme with "luck." smile.gif
wolfi1412
I voted for UNDO, dunno why but I like it so much.
Radel
The first place goes to Rewrite and the second one to Undo. wink.gif
Ayumi
I like the 4th OP since there's alot of action going on there biggrin.gif
-+maboroshi+-
I am torn between 'READY STEADY GO' and 'Rewrite'. (T T)

Rewrite followed by Undo...Ready Steady Go is good too but after hearing it too many times you kinda get sick of it, I never liked Melissa...
Roy
I like Ready Steady Go most, followed closely by Rewrite. Possibly because of the animations pair with the music for both. They're really cool.
Omakase Shimasu
Hmmm, after hearing and seeing the OPs all over again, I'm reconsidering UNDO for Melissa. Aw heck, they're both good~
Quistis88
I didn't vote because I like them all . . . except "UNDO". I liked that one, too, but not as much as all the other ones, unfortunately.

I really love the lyrics for "Melissa". I wonder why it was titled that?
Omakase Shimasu
Maybe Melissa (a person) was their/his source of inspiritation? Or maybe they thought it was just another one of those cool American words and because of its coolness they wanted to use it? biggrin.gif As you can see I don't have the slightest idea.
Sian
2. Tempted to say 4, but I definitely prefer L'Arc~En~Ciel's sound to that of Kung-Fu Generation, and moreover I think my opinion of 4 is based on its accompanying animation, which is more impressive than that of Ready Steady. GLEE for Hawkeye and Hayate, Mustang of course, and for the lovely blue-green ruins.
Elderberry
About the Melissa song, in the second verse, the guy sings about how he won't wish for wings- instead he wants to be able to dance in mid-air like Melissa. (Maybe Melissa is a goddess from some myth or religion...The Melissa PV had this woman in white sitting on a tree...)

Personally, I like Melissa the best out of all the openings, but Undo comes pretty close. I like the animation in Rewrite the best, though. (It's so cool when Ed jumps off the waterfall, and the part when Wrath is throwing stuff around in the hotel-place...)

Um, I have to say that I never really liked Ready Steady Go that much. Sorry to all the fans that are obsessed with the song, but I just don't especially like L'Arc en Ciel (I don't really know why, though)...The animation was really nice to watch though, especially the part with all the military people...

Riraito - Season 4, methinks .

I know 2 is L'Arc en Ciel. What are the other band or singer names. For the other Openings like 1,3, and 4.
alpha
Rewrite. You've just got to love when Ed jumps off in the waterfall to wrath.
Sycia
Definitely Rewrite.

The lyrics told so much within themselves. ^_^
Uirumusu
I love Melissa, Undo and Rewrite (Rewrite's the best), but I'm not too keen on Ready Steady Go, it's a good song and all but not my type of thing

btw, has anyone noticed how FMA's themes are very anti-sexist, all the openings are by males and the endings are by females, I love all the songs happy.gif

I noticed that too! Also, the first two ending songs started playing a few seconds into the end of the anime (and are more on the upbeat side), while the second two don't start playing until after the screen fades out to black (and are a little more on the slow side)...
Tama
The last opening for Fullmetal is the best. the beat, tune and lyrics go so well together
Excido
1. Rewrite
2. Undo
3. Kesenai Tsumi
4. Melissa
5. Tobira no Mokou e

and the other ones are okay
Shadow Blade
1.) Ready Steady Go - Because nothing beats the return of L'arc! A very catchy and different song than their usuall tunes.

2.) Rewrite - A very close one. Both of the songs are good but Rewrite has a problem. Most of the song is quite (if you heard the full version) so its composition isn't very good (like Haruka Kanata). But it's still a very good song. Better than Haruka Kanata IMO.

3.) Undo - This song belongs to the bottom tier. It's good, but it's not as catchy as the other songs.

4.) Melissa - The worst probably, because it gets annoying pretty fast after a while.
Beowulf
I like Undo the best. The song was catchy and it got stuck in my head.
Kokoro no Hana
I'll vote for Undo, but I like 'em all ^^

1. I personally didn't like 'Ready Steady Go' that much. I think the main parts that didn't really appeal to me were the very repetitive background music and the vocals. But, then again I'm more of a J-pop fan than a J-rock fan...

2. I'm guessing that you meant to say that 'Rewrite' doesn't have a lot of singing, and has a bunch of poorly composed instrumental in the middle... I agree that I was a little disappointed with not having more lyrics, but Rewrite kind of wouldn't be as good without all the instrumental in the middle, and you can't deny the fact that it is very catchy (and probably the best FMA opening in terms of animation)...

3. I personally like 'Undo' a lot, although it originally seemed much more anime-ish to me than the other openings. It's a great song once it grows on you. I liked the contrast in the opening animation. I guess the parts that aren't the chorus might seem a little less catchy than the other opening songs...

4. Eh...I disagree. I'm still listening to 'Melissa' pretty often after 3+ months... I think this opening kind of suffered because the animation was kind of plain compared to stuff like 'Ready Steady Go.' (Well, I'm a big fan of Porno Graffitti, so my opinion's probably biased...)

Also, this is pretty random, but I was looking through CDs in the "International Music" section in Borders yesterday, and they had these CDs that had songs from various artists/bands in Japan. Volume 3 (Or 4? I forgot which one...) had "Ready Steady Go" on it... It was just kind of interesting...(I guess L'Arc en Ciel is going to be pretty populat in the US soon too?)
Versaythe
Ahhh! It's too hard to choose between Ready Steady Go by L'arc and Rewrite by AKFG ohmy.gif

1. RSG is on the top because well I'm a big L'arc fan. I do, however, think they have better songs (The Fourth Avenue Cafe from Rurouni Kenshin and Driver's High from GTO are better, at least DH is better!). But this song is very different than what L'arc did. They have only one similar song like RSG and that's Route 666. At least they're being original this time.

2. IT IS THE BEST OPENING IN TERMS OF ANIMATION. The chorus is amazing from Ed jumping the cliff and fighting Lust. And yeah the composed instrumental is bad IMO, but it is catchy none the less. I'm finding myself humming the chorus everywhere I go... Keshite! Reraito... Em...

3. Undo is good. Cool Joke is the least popular band who did the FMA opening songs (Compare them to Asian, L'arn and Porno Graffiti). And yeah, it's Anime-ish, but Melissa is more anime-ish IMO. The animation while good is kinda stale after a while (well it IS the most lasting opening) 'cause of the grey backgrounds, but the song itself is cool.

4. I like Porno Grafitti too, and Melissa is good, but not as the other songs. I liked more Hitori No Yuro (GTO Again.) which is a more catchy song, Melissa isn't as catchy as the other songs.
Lust
I liked the 3rd and 4th alot. Number 1 was sort of a disapointment, Melissa was probably one of Porno Graffitti's worst songs.
Misha Elric
UNDO! the lyrics is so beautiful .o and rewrite is rlz!

:3 ... in reality i love all xD

I thinking idem xD but melissa is good in the ritmo
Elderberry
Wow, it seems like a lot of us love Hitori no Yoru. I like it a lot too, even though I've never seen the music video or the anime it was made for... laugh.gif
