Do Darius and Heinkel appear in any of the Viz volumes yet? I only own up until volume 10 (I've read all the FMA chapters, I just didn't start collecting the volumes until the new series was announced).

Well they appear as regular soldiers but they don't appear in their Chimera form until Vol 19 which is coming out next month.

~ Fma Manga Details: post little details you notice in the manga here! ~

I have been noticing a lot of little details in the manga recently (since you can't really tell in the anime) and felt like pointing them out to other people, but couldn't find a good place to put them. So I made this topic.

Did you notice that when the Elric brothers were in Reole, Ed's shirt (the one that goes over the tank top) is kind of like a long sleeve shirt that looks like a jacket. And after he rips it off, the shirt turns into an actual jacket thing held together by this piece of metal at the top. Do you think he transmuted it that way in case he had to rip it off again?? XD

I'm not sure this thread is required, as a solo post anyway. It threatens being spammed or ignored. For topics such as the two mentioned, please find the relevant threads already within the Manga section of this forum.

Thank-You

^ Thank you, Chiyo! ^^ Yes, I moved Forsaken Love's post to Is Ed left-handed or right-handed? thread. And, we already have a thread just like this with a collection of these small details people noticed, and that's where the rest of thread would go. smile.gif

I don't know if someone has already posted this, but in the gaiden, "Dog of the Military" the word, "bang" is written as a sound effect 6 times, but there are 7 holes in the wall. Interestingly enough, in the first anime, during the same scene the gun was fired 6 times and 7 holes were in the wall.

Really? In the gaiden too? I hadn't noticed that... I don't understand where the last bullet came from! Is there something Hawkeye won't tell us? tongue.gif She's got some sort of secret weapon or something..

^When I pointed this out to my brother, he said, "It was probably there from something else. I mean it wouldn't be shocking for a woman who's tough enough to shoot at a puppy to have shot a gun inside on another occasion." Lol. XD

OT: (Here's an inconsistency from the first FMA anime series. In the later episodes, they claim Christianity to be a religion that was created, but abandoned long ago. Like, 200 years ago kind of "long ago". However in that episode with Psiren, what was it called, "The Phantom Thief"? In that episode after pretending to be a nurse, she says that she became a nun. With the sign of the Christianity, the cross very popular in the church she claims to have joined.)

It's just the generic embryo form what resembles Envy's true form. It doesn't seem to be a homage.

Yes, it's only an embryo, nevertheless when I have seen for the first time Envy's true form I have thought to a Escher's lithography ->Trappehuis

I noticed in the chapters with the train, one of the panels with the engine room, in the bottom right corner there's a reeeeally tiny note that says, "THE ENGINE ROOM IS THIS BIG?!!"

I was surprised I noticed it too haha

here's the wikipedia entry verision

The Konami CodeThe Konami Code, known in Japan as the Konami Command (コナミコマンド, Konami Komando?), is a cheat code that appears in many Konami video games, [1] although the code also appears in some non-Konami games.[2] The code was first used in the 1986 release of Gradius for the Nintendo Entertainment System [3] but was made famous in North America in the NES version of Contra, for which it was also dubbed the "30 Lives Code". While pausing the game or during the title screen, the player could press the following sequence of buttons on the game controller:

↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A
The code was subsequently re-used in a large number of other games, and has found a place in popular culture as a reference to the third generation of video game consoles.

@kkg22104 - Aha, thank you for that info!! ^^
And, Konami command, if I'm correct, is the cheat code for Konami games. You can get the power ups and other benefits without fullfilling the usual requirements by entering this code. I think it goes like, "up up down down left right left right blah blah..." biggrin.gif

ETA: Gahaha, rzerox21xx posted more detailed info before me while I'm posting mine. XD Yeah, my connection is pretty bad right now. XD

Heya guys, while rereading the manga, I saw that :
It's from tome 21, when Mustang sees the pictures of Pride at various years.

I'm quite sure it's the infamous Gold Toothed-Creepy dude-Crazy Scientist-unnamed man. He has the same face, the same moustache and the same everything.
I thought it was a nice Easter Egg...
Kaleidoscope
Wow! I think you're right! creepy... I hate that man so much right now.
Ezupio
Another thing about this crazy doctor, not as nice though, a mistake that I pointed out in chapter 101 :

In chapters 98, 99 and 100, Goldie was missing a tooth (which he had when he "created" Wrath : see my avatar)...Well, now he has it back :
Chaps 98-99-100 and the one in which he cures Kimblee :

Chapter 101 : (This image isn't the only one in which he has it back, it's like that in every pictures)

Do you think that kind of details can be fixed when the chapter is released as a tankōbon?

Definitely. Things like transmutation circle missing from Roy's gloves, Greedling's Ouroboros tattoo disappearing and Al having no handcuffs in one panel when the brothers were kept in a cell in Briggs were all fixed for the tankoboun release. And Goldtooth's missing tooth is way easier/faster to fix anyway.

I'm pretty sure Envy has (had) far more than just 10-20 souls within his stone. After all when he reverts to his true form you can clearly see the faces of at least 30+ people (this is assuming the "faces" accurately represent the souls trapped within him)

@archronos - Ummm, no, I don't think the number of "faces" drawn as part of Envy in any particular panel would accurately represents the actual number of souls trapped inside Envy in FMA manga, but regardless... could you kindly tell us which panel of which chapter you are referring to in your post above? smile.gif
Bag of Magic Food
Is it just my imagination, or is the Ouroboros tattoo a little different for Wrath and the second Greed than it is for the rest of the Homunculi? In every panel I can find which features Wrath's or Greed's tattoos up close, there's a substantial gap between the dragon's mouth and the dragon's tail, while on all the other homunculi the mouth is right up against the tail. If someone can prove this is consistent (and in the anime it may very well not be consistent if the directors failed to notice it), then I wonder if it symbolizes the difference between a "pure" homunculus and a "hybrid" homunculus.

And I already know about the anime changing the hexagram into the Triforce-squeezing-out-smaller-Triforce thing. I found out about it at the same time as I was going back to check whether the occasional less-curled dragon was a mistake or an intentional change.
Katya Martin
I'm wondering if Arakawa watched/was a fan of Carl Sagan's series Cosmos-- watch this clip, especially starting at about 3:00: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa79YA0PqdE (This series was made in the 1980s.)

Now that sounds really familiar. Chapter One familiar, even.

Hmm, I think that's just drawing discrepancy (like how signatures don't look 100% identical), though perhaps if you could post related images up, it would be easier for everyone else to see the difference you are talking about.

Whoa, that was freaky. Thanks for pointing that out. The music when he was mixing up all the substances was creepy, too. The music rhythm sounded like the soundtrack that Brotherhood used during the human transformation scene. I wonder!
Katya Martin
He talks a bit beforehand about how "most of these only cost a few cents" as well. The whole series (dealing mainly with space) was apparently very good; I wonder if it was a bit of an inspiration? biggrin.gif
SnakeByte117
Hey new person here. Is this the right place to put a little theory about what I think might be foreshadowing? I posted this on another board but i'd like to post it here to.
Copy pasting from other forum:
Were Lust's last words foreshadowing? I may be looking too much into things, but Lust did say something that makes me think a bit in Brotherhood/the manga.
Looking at my official translation of the manga, she says:
"Those eyes, so clear and focused... I love them. I look forward... ...to seeing those eyes become clouded from suffering. That day will come...very... soon...
She also mentioned his eyes in brotherhood too, and if your keeping up with the manga you know that Roy has gone blind in the final arc, on the promised day or whatever it's called. I may be reading too much into things, but I just realized that that might be foreshadowing. What do you guys think?
Vlyse
^
With the way Brotherhood seems to love flashbacks and totally being obvious, I just realized when we get to the point of Roy going blind that a Lust flashback to her saying that is very possible. I hope they implement it, as some people probably won't catch on.

Ooo! Interesting find. I think I just spotted another one. Go above the one with two snakes and over to the left: Kimblee's eye!

They all seem to be things Alphonse has seen in some form. So, I wonder if that means he will see Roy's door? Maybe it hints that in the next chapter they'll all get to see each others door?

Now that makes me rethink what I always thought about the image under the left circle. I always figured that was Hohenheim holding Alphonse after he got over his fear. But now, I'm starting to think it's something else considering the beard is only similar to Hoho's in style. It's closer cropped then his father's. . . . Ed?? [is probably reading too much into this because the one to the right of his foot is a fetus in the womb.]

Katya Martin
I would actually be surprised if it turns out that Arakawa didn't know exactly how FMA was going to end from the start. Some series seem like the authors started out with "this concept is cool, here's some good characters and a background" but don't know where they eventually want to go with the series (and not knowing the end at first gives them extra time to get money out of it); sometimes you can tell when something's been well-planned out, and I think Fullmetal definitely has been.

Arakawa was drawing Hoho's beard like that on the start (the result is different design for Hoho in the first series, heh...), I mean, for example a scene from vol 5

Well, we know for sure that she had the end at least roughly planned out when they were making the first series... that was in 2003-2004 so even before volume 8... happy.gif

I really wonder why did Al see Ed's and Roy's (part of) gate ;f

lol, ALL storys have neally the entire story planned out from the begginin otherwise they would be crap, they wouldnt go anywhere, there would be no hints, or omg moments or foreshadowing, sure little details changed but the story as a whole is allways planned out, otherwise it just wouldnt work, particually for something as complicated as fma, and didn't arakawa say anyway that the ending was one of the first things she decided on? And a few people who made the first anime knew the ending cause she let slip, thats why she requested it had a different ending and that was around vol6
Broken Chouchou
Actually, I meant that the pages were from vol. 8. Which they are.

Anyway, thanks guys for making me feel like an idiot tongue.gif

My thinking was in the lines of what Katya Martin said. I felt that the series took a pretty sharp turn and went for a whole different direction a couple of volumes back. But you're right, FMA is a too complex series for having the major plot thought of progressively, as the series goes along. As some series evidently are (Cough, Naruto - and there a million fans beat me up for mentioning Naruto in the same post as FMA)
deet-tastic
Good to hear your guys' feedback on this find. When I saw it I ran and grabbed my brother and he let out a "NOWEI!"
It just furthurs my love for Arakawa. Such a small detail like that. That is insignificant for years and years, that no one pays attention to. Until it is revealed in the last chapters. So amazing O.o

I don't know if this has been pointed out already but I think it's kind of funny in this picture when Ed crosses out his doodle of Lust.
