Just because something happened in a doujinshi, dosen't mean that's what's likely to happen. Roy is so far from the rapist type, and yet all these silly fangirls seem to think of him as the big bad abusive molesty pedophile. He teases Edward and watches out for him. Even if he were to suddenly turn on his established preferences and decide he liked young men better than hot nurses, he certainly wouldn't be cruel and forceful about it. Nobody portrays him as 'omg rapey' with Hawkeye. So why Ed?

Yeah... I suspect that's the reason most people dislike Rosefic in general. Rose isn't really my favorite either, but I love writing about her. There were a lot of things left unsaid by her, and she really didn't get a lot of development as her own person.

I've liked writing about Noa as well, even though I'm not super fond of her in canon. I like being able to complete character gaps and give a more sympathetic face to those who are overlooked.

No, I haven't... I just started reading DNAngel a week ago (along with around ten other series outside of FMA) but, really, I rarely read fanfictions anyway because they're so rarely well done. I don't exactly have the time to jump around on fanfiction.net sloughing through scores of 'and then... OMG ENVY JUMPED ON ED AND THEY GOT IT ON!'

The fangirl is an interesting species, divergent from a 'true' human. Her closest relative in manga taste and fanfic writing may, in fact, be the gay male. Incidentally, among the fangirl population, rabies seems to be far more prevalent then in similar groupings. The reason for this is currently unknown, but the primary theory is that it, and the general fondness for yaoi, mainly stems from the unabashed sexiness of so many manga males, and the desire to see and/or imagine them in explicit situations without needing to be jealous of another girl.

I do agree about your definition of rabid fangirls and it made me giggle, though there is not only that sort that is annoying: There's also the rabid het fans (EdWin, Royai ones mostly) who are -mostly- anti-yaoi, and the fangirls who self-insert into the FMA world and gets paired up with Ed/Mustang/Envy...(remembers 8th sin Sue fic and cries)

Fangirls come in many shapes sizes and subspecies, including those who are quite intelligent, fangirl just for the fun of it, and make fun of themselves, admitting their own fangirlishness. Fanboys refuse to admit their problems, and will lash out at the fangirl species to mask their own insecurities. While fangirls tend to carry on avid, multitasking, varied social lives, often travelling in packs and doing annoying but harmless fangirlish things, the fanboy is more of a loner type, most often residing in basements and dank closed-in rooms, spending long hours in the dark, reeking of pretzel snacks and mountain dew, spending half their internet time on World of Warcraft, the other half on depraved borderline pedophilic hentai. It has been theorized that these creatures are intimidated by real females, and thus turn to fictional females, most often the young submissive and nonthreatening ones to fulfill their unrealistic fantasies of a perfect woman.

Oh he gets the occasional Mary Sue fanfics, but not all that awesome, because he's not teh hawt, and most fangirls don't have the attention span to appreciate a cute boy who dosen't get his shirt ripped all the time. He's very often nonexistant in fanfiction. (Either that or they make He and Ed have a fight and part ways or Ed will disown Al in order to be with 'insert fangirl sue here' without any distractions to their twu wub)

But then again, there are Mary-sues for everyone. Heck, there was even a Breda Sue. (She beat him at chess.)

The exact same thing that's wrong with EdxRoy. The first scars fangirls, the second, fanboys. Each think the gay pairings for their sex are nightmarish.

But not always. It's most often only the immature prepubescent ones who are insecure in their own sexuality, thus feel the need to stamp out anything within their sight that contradicts their desired 'normal' sexuality. It's the same syndrome as that of teenaged boys who become hypersensitive to homosexuality out of fear. We see a lot of it in high school hallways of "God! Don't touch me, you faggot!" They will then proceed to try to overcompensate in other ways to prove their preference.

In my opinion, it's a matter of nervousness and silly defensiveness. In the same branch, I've seen girls who feel the need to openly declare how gross it is to see naked women, even within the art community. "As a straight girl, I find boobs disgusting.", and such. I find that equally pathetic as homophobic adolescent boys.


Lots of straight yaoi fangirls also actively participate in het and yuri works. Heck, I've encountered a couple of fangirls who are stone cold lesbians, and they love to write yaoi. Go figure.

Not much of a Roy/Ed fan, nor a straight-up-hardcore-yaoi fan, so I guess I can't judge, but some of them were pretty mediocre.

Next Restraint was pretty sweet, though. I liked EstEstEst, since it took the time over three volumes of gen-ness to actually develop a relationship and some emotional ground, rather than, 'Ed and Roy smex in the office and say i luv you, lollerskates!'

Lots of series have more slashable girls than guys, but the fangirls will go for yaoi, because it's pretty simply understood that fandom is predominantly made up of heterosexual girls.

Riza Winry only really makes sense in the manga, and even then, only a little bit. I guess I could quote Fey in saying that she just doesn't give off 'lesbian vibes'. I think it's just that she doesn't give off any improper sexual vibes at all.
