Riza Hawkeye of course!

Seconded! That panel of the manga when she and Fuu are leaving, and she's promising Ling they'll come back... Yup, Hawkeye's a nice lady, but on random enigmatic sexiness, Ran Fan.

If they had to fight....Ran Fan seems to be more adaptable in how she fights (stopping Wrath's sword with a *knife*?!), but Riza isn't called the 'hawk's eye' for nothing. In close-combat, Ran Fan, but if Ran Fan was within distance of a sniper rifle, Hawkeye.

They both have their own awesomeness, and they are my two absolute FAVORITES of FMA...

I'd say Riza Hawkeye though.. near the beginning I thought she was such a simple character...just the normal "I want to protect someone" girl of the series, but as it went on there was so much more about her! And well, I love the bond that Mustang's crew has.. ^^ It's heartwarming!

I have to say, the first time I saw Ranfan in the series, I knew she'd be one of my favorites.. I love characters like her, and in other series they usually turn out to be real stupid-emo.. I can't wait to see how Ranfan grows in the series

I gotta vote for Riza because she's...Riza! She's just the kind of character you have to like. Plus, she kind of reminds me of Faye Valentine from BeBop and she's one of my all-time favs. Plus, (me being a guy and all...) Riza is drop-dead gorgeous!

A really though choice, but i chose Hawkeye.

My vote went towards Lanfan Ranfan.

Riza Hawkeye, because she is my favorite military character. (Excluding Ed.)

I've read volumes 8 and 9 of the manga, so maybe it's unfair, because I don't know enough about LanFan yet.

I like both of them, but for me, it has to be Riza Hawkeye. Though Ran Fan comes very, very close. I guess it's because [spoiler]right now, she's out of commission temporarily after cutting off her own arm and declaring how she'll get through automail rehab in half the time Ed did.[/spoiler]

However, LanFan is completely hardcore because SHE CUTS HER OWN FRIGGEN ARM OFF in the manga. (Hosh!t, WTF?!? I totally didn't see that coming.)

The two are quite comparable (and admirable) in their devotion-- LanFan to Ling and Riza to Roy.
Many props to Arakawa for developing two strong, positive female characters.



(However, IMO, Olivia Armstrong would PWN both of their asses in a 2 on 1 fight.)

Ran Fan's cool. No denying that. But compared to Hawkeye? No, Riza's definitely my favorite.

As people say Riza and Ran Fan have much in common. They are both strong. And they are ready for sacrificing lives to save their beloved.
I know Riza more time than Ran Fan. She was in anime and she was in manga right from the begining. Run Fan appeared later. But she quckly managed to conquer my heart. She did that horrible thing - cutting off her arm and I never could stay unsymphatetic.
Can't choose... Maybe I'll vote later when I'll know more about them both from new chapter.

I voted for Riza. I guess it's because we know more about her, but in general I just like her better.

I chose Riza, but it's a close one. My reasoning is that LanFan was raised to be kickass, while Riza joined the military and became kickass despite what her father would have wanted.

...I'd have to say...I prefer them both! They're both strong women and willing to defend their loved ones no matter what. However, I lean more toward RanFan than Riza because, well, RanFan cut off her own arm for Ling! And is still willing to serve him despite her injury! She's also a great martial artist and fighter.

Still, if I didn't need to decide between them, I'd say they're both equally cool characters.

This was a hard choice. Just today, I was compiling a list of the differences between Roy and Ling and Riza and Lanfan. It was not very long. I love them both, but I voted for Riza. I've seen more of her, and know her history, so I like her just a teensy bit more.

For me choice is obvious! Riza Hawkeye!
Why? Because she's strong, loyal, loving, and cute and... There's too many reazons why I picked Riza!
I simply don't like neither LanFan nor her beloved Ling XD

I wish I weren't so biased, but Riza -___- But these two are so devoted to their lover superior and would do anything to protect them.

Both characters are in my top 10. But Riza is just a more important character to the story, hence she gets my vote.

Oooooh this is a tough one, because they're both awesome...I love Ran Fan but I love Riza more.

Answer is obvious - Riza for all so many reasons. Lan Fan is a great character too, but Riza's on a totally higher level.

I voted for Riza, because she's much stronger, and I like her better than LanFan.

I may actually give my vote to Lanfan. I like Riza, but for a character as important as her in the manga it kind of irritates me how much of importance Roy is to her ambition and goals. Riza has more of a central role than Lanfan, but I wish her goals were more individualistic (though maybe they will be revealed to be eventually).

Hee, I'm very partial to Ms. RanFan, but I have to say that Riza has Roy by the collar. RanFan is more the "servant" type to her leader.

Riza!! Yeah! Anyway it's true that Ran-Fan is new but if you start reading the manga you will notice that she also have alot of parts since she's with the "prince". But but... I must warn you... If you read the manga you will ruin fullmetal alchemist brotherhood cause you already know what will happen... But It helps me (some how) to know which ones are a bad episode... So yeah... P.S trust me... There will be lots of parts about Riza... that's why she came 3rd on the popularity poll ^.^ hehehehe...

Anyway, apparently I've already voted in this poll though I don't remember who I voted for. Hmm...Riza is always so popular for some reason, but you gotta give RanFan some credit too, even if she doesn't have that big of a role in the story. If I had to vote right now I would probably pick her

None of them I've hated so far, surprisingly. Usually when I watch a different anime or manga, I end up hating the lead female or some of its female characters.

Riza Hawkeye gets another point... Ranfan lacks the stubbornness that Hawkeye has.

Since Ranfun got an automail arm, I'm more in love with her. She must be a super tough girl: cutting her arm off and going through the surgery. I think if all that nasty things happened to me, I would go insane or prefer to die. But Ranfun survives and comes back with all the awesomeness she got. I wish I could vote for her, but the latest chapter show me that Riza is in serious danger, getting her throat slit. She earned my support from the beginning of the manga series. My vote to Riza as a good luck
