But if there is life out there in this unfathombly endless univerce I don't think they would look anything like us. It all goes back to those prababilaty equations so if everything was right for their exzistance the odds of them being even remotly humanoid in very slim.

anyway, yes i believe in aliens. to think we are the only living things out there is just ignornt
now weather or not they have actually been here... eh, i don't think so. im not convinced by crop circles. mabe a couple are
real, but otherwise just alot fun to look at
another thing is
where they are. like when we sent the robot to mars, we saw the planet had no water and said it couldn't support life. well that just means WE can't live there but mabe the planet supports a different kind of life, one that doesn't need water because they evolved a different way. (now if you don't believe in evolution, this does nothing for you

) anyway, i just thought that was a good point to make
Popogeejo
May 30 2006, 04:08 AM
Actually there is water on mars. it has Ice caps and evidence that there were Rivers. in theory if we sent all our excess Co2 there it would warm up the planet and melt those ice caps. maybe then Mars cuold support life.

Do Alien's exist? Perhaps, but I doubt they're any better than we are. Earth has existed for ages, as has our population, and we find ourselves today in a world of politics and borders, and some of said borders included rather high fences and barbed wire. If there is any alien life out there, I doubt they're in much better condition than we are, so it'll be awhile before any of us run into each other, I should think.
Whenever you see a space movie, all planets seem to be united into one giant super-nation. I find that idea somewhat improbable, given our own state of affairs.
Or perhaps, to quote the brilliant philosopher Calvin:
"Sometimes I think the surest sign of intelligent life out there, is that none of it has tried to contact us."

Thinking outside the box, I still don't think aliens exist. It would be cool to have aliens though.

I believe that life on other planets in our universe is possible, but I believe that these lifeforms are most likely simple organisms that will never reach the complexity of humans. (There was that discovery about the ice-caps on the planet Mars.) However, there are numerous solar systems that will most likely never be explored that could possibly contain intelligent life. I don't want to simply dismiss the idea of lifeforms more intelligent than human-beings, but I do not believe that they exist in our solar system.

I believe in Aliens but I don't go for the "E.T." image.

Even microorganisms at the least.

I agree mostly with everyone who said that the universe is too massive for there to be one inhabitable planet. I do believe that there are other intelligent life forms, who haven't or may not be able to make themselves known yet. Yet, as ROY JR. mentioned, I don't think that they would look like E.T. or any other sci-fi movie.

There is most definately life out there. If you think about it, the universe is made up of the same materials, everywhere. So, unless there was a miracle or freak accident or something, there will be life. The only reason we haven't found it yet is due to the fact that we only really recently begun the search (I know that 60-ish years may seem long, but in the cosmic time scale it's not), and due to the limitation of lightspeed. Most systems we are observing are millions of lightyears away, meaning any signal sent by us, or to us, provided the aliens are not so advanced that they discovered hyperlight technology, would arrive millions of years in the future. An entire senitent race could come to rise and fall in that time. But, there is life out there, somewhere.

So you know for a fact that:
- There isn't any oxygen out here,
- there isn't any water,
- That other types of life need Oxygen and water.
It's entirely possible that aliens could require totaly diffrent things to survive.

Lets say that we do find strong evidence that life can be supported outside our planet or that there are intelligent beings living somewhere in the universe, would it not tremendously affect religion and peoples view on God? If so, please explain why?
Ive been thinking about it for awhile now, and I would love to hear someone opinion on this.
Popogeejo
Aug 1 2006, 01:54 AM
I don't think it would affect religion much. I don't recall a pasage in the Bible saying:
"Man did ask the Lord "Father, hast thou created other life on other planets?"And the lord did speaketh unto man "Dude, we are totaly exclusive. I'd never creat somone else" and thusly it was setled."
I'm pretty sure it would have been up to God as to whether he creates any other life. Religon will find a way to rationalise anything given enough time.
Ofcourse this is just the opinion of a non-beliver so it don't really count.

I guess i have to say that I want to beleive that there is another planet out there that can support life, because right now, we are on the road to destroying this one. I beleive that there is another life form (but not a movie life form) some where out in vast space, but I don't think that we will ever find it.
