I was just wondering, 'cause I've been checking around other fanfic sites, and it seems like EVERYTHING is yaoi. No offence, but personally, I hate yaoi. Just thought I'd see what everyone else thought.
Envy's lil' miniskirt
I like yaoi. I get such a kick out of it. Of course I find most hentai/yaoi that uses established anime/VG characters amusing. laugh.gif

Although one thing I hate about yaoi is they way they make they uke (catcher) either look girly, scrawny, or like a kid, even if it's someone who's orginally buff and manly. Some of the FF7 doujinshis I've seen are just frightening.
Mustang's Apprentice
Meh, it's OK, I don't really care that much about it, though.
Murasaki
I personally don't like it, but if other people do, it's fine with me... As long as they don't try and convince me that it's 'right' or anything. happy.gif
Morgri
I think it's sick and wrong, but I don't complain about. If you like it, you like it... nothing I can do about it.
Lyndsie_Elric
*shudders* I HATE, HATE, HATE yaoi! Tis disgusting! dry.gif
Jellybean
Yaoi = yummy. biggrin.gif

I have to admit, it didn't even occur to me that FMA had yaoi potential when I first watched it, but then I got online and found all these huge yaoi fan communities with fanfiction, doujinshi, etc. Now I can't get enough of it.
miss_neko
i don't like it. but i don't mind if other people are interested in it. everyone has their own taste XD
LoMXD
eww yaoi,
I think I'm gonna barf (no offense to yaoi likers) wacko.gif
NightMistress
I chose It's ok, if you like it. Though I am majority a non-yaoi fan, I would prefer to see a yaoi couple that totally works and makes sense over a non-yaoi couple that makes no sense and doesn't work at all. It's just that in most of the animes I've seen, it's been the non-yaoi pairings that make the most sense to me because usually the potential is obvious in the storyline. The only yaoi couples that really work for me are HughesRoy and TrowaQuatre (Gundam Wing). There may be more to come.
MoshiHibana
I don't like yaoi and people go waaay over board with it just go on a place like fanficiton.net it's all you can see. Well pretty much anyways I guess it's their choice though since it is fandom. But I don't like it lol
Peace out smile.gif
Zarpia
I hate yaoi
Edo-mame
I don't like it at all but I don't care if others do since its their own preference. But I do find it extra disturbing if its yaoi that has do with character's or shows I like(bad luck for me since Edo, Al and Roy are my favs but they are always paired up). To me it seems like there is quite an amount of yaoi fans that are really extreme and into it... like an unhealthy obsession(but then anything can be an unhealthy obsession). Is it really that interesting to read fics about characters who are in no way homosexual being portrayed as angsty characters in homosexual relationships? I will never know but I prefer fics to be more true to character rather than stuff made to be sexy. Maybe its the "kinkiness" that attracts people but I find it more to be some kind of fad that didn't go away.
Ava_Michelle
Personally, I love yaio. I'm very open about sexual preferences like that, and I think that, like anything else, if written or drawn properly, it can be really good.

But I do agree that there's not nearly enough hetero fans out there who write good fanfiction. *sighs* I write both, but I've never considered myself a very good author... But that's besides the point! In moderation, it's good. happy.gif

There's not even enough good authors who write yaoi. I am so sick of reading hentai and yaoi written by people who.

a: Are scared to write a sex scene.

b: Haven't had sex yet so they have no idea what they are writing about and the sex scene sucks.

Too true, too true... I've yet to have sex myself, but I don't shy away from sex scenes, but that's because I have a dirty, dirty mind... *flits off to go write Roy/Riza fanfiction*

Good points, but for b, if someone has had heterosex then there's a chance (not saying it's guaranteed) that they still don't know what they are writing about which in turn makes the scene suck. I think a solution could be reading a lot of good yaoi sex scenes to get the idea of what to do to make the scene effective. The same can be said for non-yaoi authors. I've read some baaaad sex scenes to the point of where I just skip it. I have however come across an absolutely excellent Royai writer. Talk about steamy!

Even if someone hasn't had sex yet they can still find some good erotic literature to read to at least give an idea on how a good sex scene can be written. Same as anything else, do research. A dirty mind is also very helpful.

That goes back to research. A few years ago I wrote a yaoi fic for fun and before I wrote it I hunted down some gay erotica and, back then, there was less yaoi fanfiction so it was easier to find good stuff. So those two things were helpful, that and what I know from hanging out with people who talk openly about sexuality.

Can you share who the Royai writer is? It would probably be best to PM me with it. I have yet to find any good FMA yaoi. Usually the ones I find write stupid stores about Ed and Envy setting up house and rasising Wrath as their kid. dry.gif

Got it.

I actually started writing an Ed/Envy piece for fun and for a writing exercise. I've since started another writing project so I'm not sure if it will ever be finished.
NightMistress
I do that as well. I started on this NightWalker fic a looong time ago and then stopped writing for a bit. My computer then crashed and I lost it all. That heavily deterred me from starting up again.
Envy's lil' miniskirt
That sucks.

That same thing happened to me years ago. I had a couple of fics I was picking at but never finished then the puter crashed and, well, that was that.

That reminds me, I really should back my stuff up incase it happens again.
empty
Quite enjoy yaoi, myself. Haven't seen too much FMA yaoi, unfortunately, but I shall continue my searches biggrin.gif

Yeah, you'd better believe I back my stuff up now. I do it with schoolwork more than anything since it's the most valuable.
Zii
Used to loathe it with all of my existance. :D However I was shown the 'light' and now I greatly tolerate it. Like whatever you want, I can't stop you (and believe me, I tried). Bleh, I even draw some of the stuff now... I can't help but give it a humorous theme though XD
Yah. Don't read fanfiction. Too many words for my meagre artistic/morelikepurdypictures brain.

But to be completely honest, 1. I avoid romantic anime, bl het or otherwise. 2. I see no point in focusing on romance fandom-wise in an anime that isn't about it. I'd rather complain about everybody being drawn extra girly in fanart than the homosexual aspect now, regardless... it drives me mad. *twitchtwitch*
Fullmetal Fangirl
Yaoi?! AAAAAAAGH! (screams and runs into a pole)

*gasps heavely* yaoi....ew....(barf)....crap....(barfs more) ....*gasps again* ...hold ....stitch...i have a stitch...(burf)....cramp....ouch...(bark)

by the way, I like beans.

Well, not for me...
I am a huge RoyXRiza supporter
So when I see the EdXRoy fanfics, I scream and shout, lol.
No offense to Yaoi likers, but not me.
Fullmetal Fangirl
POTOPHREAK, I agree

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yaoi is one of the most disgusting kind of manga/hentai ever, personally I can't stand it. I agree with Fullmetal Fangirl when she says that Yaoi is utterlly disgusting. the last time I saw one of these I torn it apart and burned it.
Electrastar
To me, it depends on the context. Example, in X, there are some Yaoi tendencies (a bit more in the manga than in the anime or the movie ). It was written in the story, and I am still of fan of it, so when it's a part of the original story, I have nothing against (even if I still think it's weird) Where I'm against it, is in fanfiction or doujinshi. Example, most FMA doujinshi's I come across on the Internet feature Roy and Edward, Roy and Hughes, and I even saw some with Roy and Alphonse....I really don't like those. I think it's tampering with the original story and characters. If they were'nt written to be like that in the first place, I think it's wrong to use another people material and use it like that....
Pheonix-chan
Eh, I myself am a yaoi fan. I have to agree though, some people do take it a little far and obsses over it. The only thing I can't stand is when people go "Eww... Yaoi OMG! So gross..." No offence, a little maturity isn't a hard thing to manage.

Oh by the way... Completely off topic, but yes, I know my spelling and grammar is bad, I apoligize.
Toby-Chan
Wow. I'm rather surprised at the number of scared children on this board who are saying "Omg yaoi is teh gross!" It's almost as annoying as yaoi fangirls themselves.

If you mean yaoi as in hardcore/hentai yaoi, I say no. I'm a major prude, so explicit stuff is </3. However, I'm casually open to the whole gay-relationship prospect. Shonen-ai,shoujo ai,and het are all equal to me. If a pairing is appealing, or cute, or whatever, I'll support it.

I find most yaoi fangirls to be greatly annoying. "Omg! Hot guyz screwing! If u dont like yaoi ur a homofobe!" Yeah. Me no likes.
It's people like that who spawn godawful canon relationships like Yuki/Shuichi. Ugh. Seriously, it's a sick, impersonal and abusive relationship between two people who really have no reason to talk to each other in the first place, let alone date/kiss/have sex, and I honestly don't believe anyone would find it acceptable if Shuichi were a woman. And yet, the general argument is "Gravitation rocks because it has hot guys making out." </3
empty
Basically my sentiments exactly, Toby-chan, although I can't comment on Gravitation, as I've never seen it.

Haven't you guys ever heard the saying that imitation is the greatest form of flattery? Well, I personally would love it if something that I made became popular enough to garner enough attention for fan fictions or fan art involving yaoi pairings. You shouldn't really look at it as insulting to the show, its more like a form of worship, heh.
Toby-Chan
XD. That's pretty much my stance. If I made a comic I thought was good, I'd be rather offended if nobody felt inspired to make doujinshi/fanfiction/fanart on it. I'd actually be quite interested to see what sort of things people want to do with my characters, or their interpretations of relationships. That's probably why I like to make the relationships and friendships so ambiguous in the first place. I suck at romance, so I'd leave it to the fans. X3

And to Empty- As much as I loathe the main pairing, Gravitation is still a semi-decent series. (However the manga and anime are practically different shows altogether. They're both about equal) It has cute characters, it's funny, and it's jumbled together semblance of a plot carries enough intrique to keep a little attention. Hiro, Ryuichi and Shuichi(If only he'd grow a little more of a brain)= Love. <3
Jellybean
Hmm, that's a good point. Some of it's gotta be a little disturbing for the authors, though.

LOL, I can just imagine poor Arakawa-sensei coming across one of those Al(armor) x Ed doujinshi and dropping dead from shock. laugh.gif
empty
Yes, if I created something that got that much attention, I'd encourage fan fiction and fanart, and probably have a good time amusing myself looking at it too. biggrin.gif

I suppose I'd like Gravi just for the cute characters and naughtyness, although I am generally more attracted to fantasy/action based animes rather than those that seem to be a bit more soap opera-ish. I'd definitely check it out if I had the chance, though, seeing as I've heard so much about it.

Heh, well, it shouldn't disturb them if they have open minds tongue.gif Ok, yeah, some of the yaoi out there can get pretty disturbing. T'would be very strange to see armored al in any kind of yaoi, definitely. But I did see some adorable EdxAl a few days ago. It wasn't sexual or anything, just very cute and sweet and innocent. They were snuggling in their sleep, aaaaawe ^o^
Kit
Even though I prefer yaoi over multiple things, I'm not horribly obbsessed with it. And the people who gush about how wonderful yaoi is make me sick. I just think yaoi is cute/nifty/fun to write about. I [also] hate the people who think yaoi is evil and horrible and wrong. And to those people who hate yaoi, you don't have to scream about how much you hate it. All you have to say is 'I'm not a fan of yaoi.' SIX. WORDS. PEOPLE. Not that hard. And after saying those SIX WORDS, all you have to do is look for something else and leave us people who like yaoi alone.

Saturn Stars
You can always tell who the 10 year olds are on this board...

Anyway, I read the stuff for fun. It can be interesting. I have a mild interest in the stuff that involves Ed. But it dosn't do anything for me... Like it dosn't hit home like a proper pairing does. The fact with Ed Roy is that it's totally out of character. It ignores the intial relationship. But hey, it's still an enjoy able read *Grins*

But EdxWin fan at heart
Kitty Cat
Ew, gross. FMA wouldn't have that. - I choose that option. I mean i don't mind about yaoi but iI agree with Electrastar. It's just not.. good to have things like Roy and Ed, hughes and ed etc etc
Toby-Chan
HughesxEd is purely wrong on so many levels. I don't even get where some of those pairings come from. >.> I mean, even with my dislike for EdxAl, at least it makes some sense.

And most people seem to be pointing out RoyxEd as their main point for FMA Yaoi hate. In spite of what some people may want you to believe, that's not the only yaoi pairing out there.
There are some that work in-character, and are wonderfully cute. Like Havoc/Fuery. (So much LOVE! <333)

(I mean, they did dress up as Roy and Riza. They're clearly just trying to emulate the perfect couple. laugh.gif )
empty
Yeah, RoyxEd doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I can see where RoyxHughes would work, if I could even picture Hughes being the least bit homosexual in the first place, lol. I am really attracted to the cute, innocent couples, though, and there seems to be an absense of them in FMA. EdxAl would be wonderful for me if they weren't brothers. Al needs somebody cute to be paired with, rawr!
A Dude that says stuff
Hehe.. this is funny! An open minded discussion about homoporn! I mean.. i don't know how it is in your countries, but what i've learned of porn is that it's usually a personal secret stash that you hide amongst a bunch of documents where no one would ever think of looking! You don't just walk around saying that you like porn! It's not supposed to work like that!

But then again... what do i know..? well... i do know one thing; keep that yaoi crap as far away from me as possible!
brrr... *shivers*

Furthermore, FMA should not be degraded with this... my god... what a terrible thing to pair fx the brothers... you know what, im not gonna think that thought to the end.. god damn!!

ps: NOT "no offense" to yaoi likers, be offended if u must! homoporn, NO THX blink.gif
pps: I would love yaoi if I could change just one tiny detail; replace all the men with chicks! then we have ourselves a freakin show biggrin.gif
Toby-Chan
A Dude who says stuff- (Nice name, by the way), we're not talking about porn, per se (Although whoever's preference is their own business... >.>) we're talking about yaoi.

Yaoi is an abbreviation in japanese, from the phrase "Yama nashi, Ochi nashi, Imi nashi" meaning "No Plot, No resolution, No climax". Essentially, saying yaoi only refers to something being plotless, which is why it came to be a term to refer to amateur works of relatively plotless m/m relationships, and became a common doujin term, but today it has expanded to simply be a term descriptive of any m/m relationship. So, as a convention, it refers to male/male relationships, but individuals may change their interpretations of it.
I generally prefer to use the term "Shonen ai", meaning "Boys love", because it dosen't have the possible implications that yaoi has.
I'm not fond of "Porn" of any sort.

And to empty- Cute person to pair Al with? Winry's a good choice, non? (Tobu-ishi wrote an AlxElysia fic once. It was majorly cute!) Al/Wrath is a rare one which I've come to like, too. X3
empty
Heheh, Winry isn't so much cute as she is...a lunatic? ^^; That is what makes me think she is great for Ed, though, so its hard for me to picture her with Al.
AlxElysia? Never even heard of that one before. Sounds risky, albeit interesting. I haven't seen any of wrath yet, so shhhh, don't spoil, heheh. He does seem cute, from the few pictures I have seen, though.

I was thinking Fletcher, and then Ed could be paired up with the other brother in a sort of competetive relationship, heheh. I'm surprised I haven't seen that anywhere, yet.
POTOPHREAK
My comments on FMA yaoi pairings by the yaoi fans:

EdXRoy: I don't think Ed likes Roy very much... and they've got Winry and Riza.
RoyXHughes: The character Hughes always go on boasting about how great his wife Gracia and daughter Elicia (sp?) is so I think he's str8. As for Roy... he's got Hawkeye and other girls.
ArmstrongXSomeguy: Well I always thought Armstrong was a bit too, erm, sensitive. If he turns out to be gay, I won't be really surprised.
HavocXSomeguy (maybe armstrong? *giggles*): With that terrible luck in females and the colonel stealing her girlfriends *cough cough* maybe that'll do.
EdXAl: blink.gif no, siblings are the ones who see the worst of their siblings

Basically if the yaoi isn't featuring the characters (or pairings) I like they are okay. "okay" here means "ah well I don't like it but it's your own taste". Also, I find yaoi with hentai really disturbing and insulting to fangirls/fanboys or certain characters or pairings.

EDIT: AlXElysa: Um, Elysa is a girl so it isn't even yaoi. But the pairing is kinda good smile.gif And seems possible. Elysa is like three or four years old in the anime, and in the movie shall be 5 or 6... hmm
Kirara
I voted for the "I don't like it but it's okay if you do" option. I have nothing againts yaoi (or yuri for that matter) in particular it just doesn't interest me in the least.

However the one thing I dislike about yaoi is some fans obsession over a particular pairing that they bring themselves to believe that it is canon. Luckily this hasn't really happened in the FMA fandom. I also don't really get the notion that some fans would rather have two male characters get together then have the male characters get together with a female. Its as though they don't want any females to have their favorite male characters and yet since they are all cartoon characters I don't see how it matters.

That all being said I did actually read a few Ed/Roy fics out of curiosity and they were actually pretty well written. I don't like the idea of them being together but I have to give credit where credit is due.
Toby-Chan
In the AlxElysia fanfic, Al was 29, and Elysia was 19/20. They bond over kitties, and stuff. X3

About an earlier comment that Hughes seemed a little gay; actually that thought struck me as interesting too. If he weren't constantly asserting his absolute straightness, he'd almost be a gay stereoptype. (The extreme social extrovertedness/spazziness, the teenage girl-esque phone usage, the apparent ability to identify with female characters (See episode 23 w/ Winry), the purple shirt...tongue.gif) He's sort of an ultramasculine/ultrafeminine character all at once.

I used to be very against the idea of Roy and Hughes together, because I was so in love with their friendship, and their closeness in that manner, and I felt that their platonic relationship was beautiful enough in itself that making it something more would ruin it.
It was mostly due to the pestering of an aquaintance and a very good fanfic that I started to accept the theory that they may have been an item at one point at time. (And... they were... cute? Is that possible? X3)

Keep in mind, I support Maes and Gracia 100%. I don't doubt in any way that he loves her very very much, but also, it is possible to love more than one person in your life. I think if Roy and Hughes ever did happen, they are no more, and decided to stay friends afterwards.

But that's just my opinion.
NightMistress
Toby Chan, would you mind telling me where to find this story?

I used to be against the idea too because of your reasons, but the more and more I saw of them together, the more it hit me that maybe it wouldn't be so bad at all if there had been something more. Now I totally love the idea.

I still support Royai 100% and HughesGracia like you.
