'Real' punk is who came out in the 1970's
But new punk isn't too bad, don't listen to a great detail myself as its mainly American and not too easy to get hold of.

I know people have there big OMG Simple Plan are not punk! moments, but I just have to say as an obssessed fan that they don't think they are punk. I love them to death!

As for "punk" people have there different opinions about what's punk and what's not. (Believe me I have gotten into big arguments on other anime forums about that crap!) I like Simple Plan,Green Day and My Chemical Romance. Yeah, they probably aren't what you all consider punk, they're "alternative"

according to some stupid crackheads I know. Well that's it. Yes I am prepared to be yelled at. Go on ahead!

People can't seem to distinguish between punk and pop anymore, thanks to all this Green Day/Offspring/Good Charlotte/Simple Plan horseshit that's floating around.
I'm into a handful of punk bands, which are pretty borderline. Stuff like Television, The Birthday Party, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Big Black/Rapeman, and of course Motörhead.

Not necessarily.
Just because someone is into punk doesn't mean they will like either of these bands.
Of course, only people with no taste what so ever would hate the ramones.

In reference to this pop/punk idea, we don't even refer to those bands as punk, it was only after looking at them on the net that I heard it.
Green Day are only popular over here thanks to American Idiot, otherwise few people knew they existed. Suppose they were always more mainstream in America, its different here.
Still not punk.
