Full Version: ...and The Trogdor Comes In The Niiight!

Envy turned into a long, skinny green dragon when he flew through the Gate in the last episode.

Ed is shown being attacked by a long, skinny green dragon in the trailer for the movie.

Long, skinny green dragons were not typically sighted in post-WWI Europe.

Has anyone else made the obvious connection here? rolleyes.gif

And the dragon comes in the niiiiiight!!!

Gotta love Strong Bad.

Anyway, I think it's safe to say that the dragon is our boy Envy. I'm kind of curious wether he's stuck in our world as a dragon or if he can change back to his cute little self.

Someone suggested that he might be stuck as a dragon becasue alchemy doesn't work in our world but that doesn't make any sense because:

1. Homonculus cannot use alchemy, shape shifting is his homonculs power.

2. If coming into this world made his powers null and void wouldn't he cease to exist since he was created through alchemy? In other words just come out of the gate dead? I don't really see how he would lose his powers coming into our world but it may be the same principals as alchemy. Something that cannot exist in this world.

I don't know that's just my hairbrained theory for right now. I guess we'll find out in the movie.
hitokiri
argh, don't you people pay attention? envy DOES NOT turn into the dragon. if you watch the part again, the dragon:

A - appears while envy is still transforming
B - comes on screen from the left, while envy is still in the middle

so unless envy learned to split into two people and teleport its not possible that the dragon is him.

Well I'll have to watch the ending again but I'm pretty damn sure while he's in the gate he first turns into Ed, then his real form and finally the dragon. But since I don't have FMA on my work puter I can't back this up right now.
Jellybean
Yeah, I think those Newtype scans even said something about Envy being the dragon. Besides, Tobu Ishi is right. A dragon would be kind of random if it wasn't Envy, don't you think? Is the gate just spitting up dragons for no reason now?

And yes, Trogdor does rock. happy.gif
hitokiri
who's to say that the dragon isn't part of the gate?
-drake-
Well i just whatched the last epsiode and im gonna have to agree with hitokiri the dragon comes from the left side when envy is transforming but i whould still like to think the dragon in the movie is envy biggrin.gif
AliCat
Eh, I just watched that scene a few times and I have to disagree. The snake does come from the left side of the screen...but I think that was a stylistic move and not intended to be literal. You see Envy flash and light up inbetween form shifts (Envy-Ed-???(his true form?)). The snake comes into the light from Envy as he's changing and kind of melds with it. I think the snake is supposed to be Envy, and the way it swoops in is just meant to be a cool image.

We'll find out soon enough I guess.
Kaskas
Im pretty sure that Envy is Trogd... ejem the dragon that apperas on the clips.

Hahahaha biggrin.gif
Now that I think about it, imagin that dragon in the movie with large muscles and a skinny leg with short wings and smoke coming out of his nose.

TRONGDOR ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
King:You can't go around in your short pants, upseting the battles!
Peasent:I'LL UPSET YOUR BATTLES MY LORD!!

Still, I think we will learn if Envy is the dragon in the movie.
kimichaninjapan
i think that envy is the dragon, it looks like he turned into it, and the movie previews mention him being the dragon. I also have another reason. i recently bought the FMA fanbook binder, and it has a discription of every character, and their forms. And it shows the dragon in the end. its like called "gate envy" or something. maybe envy through the gate?

If I'm not mistaken, it's 'balance' not 'battles'... happy.gif;;

Alright so I'm home and just watched the clip of Envy in the gate. From what I can tell yes he did turn into a dragon.

1. Notice the dragon appears just as he is transforming out of his "real form".

2. If you look closely when he transform his lower body, which is all white light, elongates and the dragons tail appears in front.

3. It makes no sense that Envy would disapear and a dragon suddenly appear out of nowhere.

So that's that. If you still don't believe that the dragon is Envy then we will just all have to wait for the movie.

That was from the main site a while back. Read the translations of the clips in the pic =\ I'm sure the translator didn't randomly put "Envy" in, so I'm pretty sure the dragon is him.

As for the how Envy can exist in the real world as the dragon/serpent. Who knows, he just does. There clearly seems to be more to the gate than we know. It seems to have its own set of rules beyond the rules of our world and Ed's. Its like how Ed was able to bring back Al in his body without the memories of their journey and Ed didn't die. Instead he was sent to our world and lost his restored limbs.

There's also the clips we see in the trailers. It looks like when Ed is fighting the villain (emperor of Shambala?) he can use alchemy again. So maybe he's trying to merge the two worlds, or they found a way to use alchemy in our world.

That trailer is probably all scenes from flashbacks since it has Armor Al too.

If the main villain of the movie is just in a flashback...ugh.

The feeling I'm getting is maybe that the Emperor transmuted the Al of our world into the armor.

Anyway, hopefully we will have the answers soon smile.gif . You think we will be able to find online spoilers right after the movie comes out?

I'd rather be spoiled and know now since we don't know when the hell we might be able to see this in the states. I need the closure right now. And if its good, I won't mind knowing before hand. Sometimes spoilers just get me more excited about seeing the final product.
Kirara
I am almost positive that those scenes with Armor Al are flashback scenes because not only do we have Armor Al but Ed with his red coat and automail arm, both of which he does not have anymore. Also we don't know if that guy in those scenes is the main villian of the movie. And if he is the main villian then he could be in both the flashbacks and "real time" of the movie.

And yeah I don't know if I will be able to wait till the movie gets subbed that would be torture. Besides you know some idiot is going to end up spoiling it for everyone anyways by not putting a spoiler warning up and revealing the end.
Tobu Ishi
I'm going to be in Japan by the end of August...so hopefully I'll get a chance to see it in theaters. happy.gif

If all that takes place as a flashback I think I'm going to be very disappointed.
Jellybean
I'm kind of hoping that whole thing is a flashback and that dude in the mask doesn't actually have a big part. Masked villians are so cheesy. Besides,
all those magazine scans say that the movie is mostly about the Nazis and dragon-Envy. The scans also mentioned that Alphonse H. reminded Ed of Al and of their adventures back in alchemy-world, so I'm thinking the masked-dude part is just a brief flashback.
"Mask" might also be a person who has come to "our" world like Ed and his father. Then again, Mask might be part of the current storyline and they just used flashback scenes mixed up with it to trick us (like the "armor" Al is doing alchemy on).

Wait one more theory: What if Armor Al was seperate from real Al. Maybe Ed gets his automail back (somehow or gets it working again) and goes to save armor Al who might be in our world too.

But it is more likely Armor Al and Redcoat Ed are just flashbacks even if Mask is not.
Edo-mame
When you call the masked guy "Mask" I thought of Scar laugh.gif There seems to be a good amount of footage and scans regarding the so called "flashback" scene where Edo is seen with his automail again. There must be a reason why Bones would be showing so much of the "flashback" since they said the movie will mostly be about Edo in "our" world and how he faces setbacks, his relationship with Heiderich, and how "On the two's promised day, the world will move." (taken from translation). Perhaps through this "flashback" we will learn of how Edo is able to return?

Also, I know in the end of the trailer cosplay!Al is doing alchemy to some metal looking thing but is it really a suit of armor and more importantly, is it the armor that Al was fixed to during the duration of the anime? If it really is that same armor than it raises even more questions... And the dragon/serpent in "our" world, I can't think of anything else that it would be other than Envy. For what reason would a serpent suddenly appear in "our" world and start attacking Edo unless it was Envy looking for Hohenheim?

I can't wait for the movie (but I must sad.gif ) especially since Edo seems to be fighting the Nazis... I wonder how that works huh.gif ?

My idea was that it was the Al our world in the armor. But that could be way off. I just hope they don't go the flashback route, that would be disappointing IMHO.

I also wonder how much the movie will resolve and tie things up. We still really don't know what happened to Gluttony and Dante. Wrath is still lurking around somewhere like a hobo. And so is Tucker.
shamanmedium
I don't really a gree with that, VileOne. Because if you look closely, you see that it is a younger Ed that is fighting the guy (Is it in Shambalah?). The way you can tell is because of the lil' clip that holds his shirt/vest closed.

Even if you don't look closely, you'll see that Al is in the Armor again... Well, maybe it isn't. I don't really know.

Those are just my theories.
Kirara
In one of the magazine articles it said Alphonse H sparks memories in Ed of the real Al. My guess is the flashbacks we see will be Ed's memories of his time with Al and these memories will also be important to the current storyline. I don't think the movie will be mostly flasbacks.

*shrugs* This /was/ originally about the correlation between the dragon at the end of the series and the dragon in the trailers. I guess it kinda got hijacked. sleep.gif;;
Anoyo
I think the article did mention the dragon being Envy, yeah. And, as I just watched the end of the series a couple days ago, I can agree with. ^_^ (Yes, I'm behind. Whoops.)

I was watching the trailers (and reading everything I could get my hands on), and I get the feeling that in the fighting scenes, they're flashbacks of Ed remembering when he and Al fought the Masked Man before the movie, but in a non-important part of the series. That's what makes the most sense in my head (haha).

There are a lot of pieces in the series that just aren't shown (five years is a long time, after all), and I think the "bad guy" shows up on his own at a later date, somehow in "our" world.

Please note that this is just me being . . . well, weird. And trying to think FAR too hard about it. But it's what makes sense, really, in my own shabbled mind. ^_^

But, I do think that the dragon is Envy. *nods* So says the article and my gut. Haha.

Oh well. I'm interested in what those people will do with Envy when and if they capture him. Will they really reach Shambala?
Defade
Conquer it? I don't know, but Envy has 99% chance to be the dragon. And maybe that automail scene is in Shambala? And Shambala is a world INSIDE the gate?
