A teeny-tiny public school in Cozad NE. The freaky thing is that everybody is related to someone in this town. I fear that everybody in Cozad it either mildly insane or will be. This is how small it is: 8th grade (mine): 92 students, 7th grade 84 students, 6th grade 74 students. There are more cows than people...

I went to public schools up until 9th grade, when I started at a charter high school. It's a public charter school, but you have to pass an entrance test to get in. The school's academic focuses are math and science. It's a good school, and I like it a lot, much more than public schools.

2) drink/smoke/drugs

Public.. It sucks. We have good teachers, though. It's just the school system doesn't have enough money to work with.

I use to go to a private all girl's school until 12 months ago, I miss it a lot because everyone at this public one are just not like me and there is so much fighting and drug taking even in class!
These students don't even turn up to there classes and wag. I am still finding it hard to adjust but it was a big shock for me on my first day.
Oh and I only changed schools because we moved.

I attend a public school. It's the first school my parents saw when we moved to our town, ran with it, and now I've attended the school system all my years. The school acts like it's a private school (no uniforms though) because of all the rules and because it thinks that it's the most powerful school in the county (which, technically, it is. XD) The rules suck, the teachers can easily be outsmarted it's not even funny, and the curriculum is so watered down we can't even use some of the latest technologies besides computers unless you go take a technical class. I went to a public elementary/middle school and a private high school, and right now I'm at a private university. I originally planned to go to a public college, but they're all really impacted for my specific major (nursing), and I wouldn't get out in four years, hence I decided to go private.

QUOTE (kazare @ Jan 11 2010, 07:28 AM)

...what is a charter school?
Charter school:
An alternative type of American public school that, while paid for by taxes, is independent of the public-school system and relatively free from state and local regulations. A charter school has a greater degree of freedom and autonomy than the traditional public school, and students attend it by choice. Each school is granted a renewable charter, usually by a state or local board for three to five years.
The aim of these schools is to increase learning opportunities and to allow for greater innovation in teaching practices. Some charter schools have a higher percentage of minority or economically disadvantaged students than traditional public schools and some specialize in a particular academic area. Charter schools are usually small, mainly urban, and vary significantly from state to state.
The first charter school law was passed in Minnesota in 1991, and the first school opened there the following year; California initiated similar legislation in 1992. By 2004, some 3,000 such schools were serving more than 600,000 students in 40 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
While many applaud the charter school movement for promoting greater choice for students and parents, it has also been criticized by those, including many teachers' unions, who are apprehensive about the possible chilling effect on other public schools, the lack of adequate supervision, and, after several years of operation, the apparently unsatisfactory performance of many of the schools.
<so says in Columbia Encyclopedia. ...sorry, I can't link it tho. ^^>

pre-K to 4th grade: Public Elementary School
5th-8th grade: Public Middle School
9th-12th: Public High School
Now I am at a State or Public College. I wouldn't want to go to a Private College, because I would most likely graduate in debt. And for my major it is a better investment to attend a Public College than a private one.
