anybody know about this TV special? what's new about it?
i even heard it was a PPV event.
TheVileOne
Its a good old fashioned recap show. Interesting, because Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the few anime series I remember that very sparingly used old clips and flashbacks. They didn't even have a recap or clip episode.

There's some new voice over by the Elrics and principle characters. I think its basically a refresher before the movie opens up in a couple of months.
Tashi
it just reviews the series, with a few voice overs. but i learned a few things about greed that i missed. all in all i think it was cool. it played 3 of the 4 OP's aswell.
Syn
Heh, I just saw this. It's worth a watch. One of the sections is from Envy's perspective which is pretty interesting, and yeah, I didn't catch the Greed info from the show either so it seems somewhat new.

There isn't any new footage or anything, but it does a nice job of outlining the show and describing what all happened and why.

Sparingly? There was a six-episode flashback (and a flashback within that flashback? Probably, but I can't recall exactly). ¦D But no actual clip shows or anything, this is true.

Yes, but they were flashbacks we haven't seen before. Typically, anime series constantly reshow and reuse flashbacks of footage we have already seen. Naruto and DBZ were pretty infamous in that regard.

What I'm saying is, every FMA episode is truly a new episode.
fullmetal_gradstudent
Ohh, glad I saw this thread. I just finished watching the special and it gave me a pretty decent fresh FMA fix. Recommended viewing for anyone feeling binge-watcher's remorse. So, does anyone know when/where/why this aired?
Envyfan
What episode is it?I've never heard of it.

It's not an episode; it's a 55 minute special that basically recaps the entire show (so don't watch it yet if you do stumble across it! :P ep 51 spoilers and such).

It aired in Japan (or so I reckon, based on the fact that it was subtitled), though I'm not sure when. Someone told me about it the day before yesterday.

As for the 'why,' I've heard that it aired to give people a nice recap before the movie comes out, but that may have been speculation. (: I haven't looked into it.
tinlunlau
i believe there were new footage in this special. the scene where Edward transmutes Al looks pretty new to me. checked the show again and don't recall that implemented at all.
Otoki Tomoe
Ooh! The title is FMA: Reflections? I will have to look for this. happy.gif Anyone have any suggestions as to where to find it? (Syn, you said it was subtitled, yes?)

That wasn't new footage, it was shown during the Izumi arc in the series.

That's another cool thing about the special guys. It basically shows all the Rizenbul and the Elric brother human transmutation things in chronological order.

In the series if you remember, they kind of jump back and forth a little bit. This new special just takes all the old footage and places it in the order of how it actually happened. So it was cool seeing all this basically old footage edited different.

So you see them lose their mother. Then set up the human transmutation experiment, dropping their blood in the pan. Then it shows them starting the transmutation that goes horribly wrong. You see Al lose his body, Ed loses his leg. Ed sees the horrible thing they created. And then he transmutes Al's soul into the armor and loses his arm in the process. Then you see Al take them to the Pinakos and you pretty much know the rest.
NeoKakashi
So where can you find it online?
TheVileOne
That's against board policy NeoKakashi.

But there are ways wink.gif .
NeoKakashi
I didn't think it would be against board policy if it wasn't an actual episode (IE: An episode FUNimation probably wouldn't even release)

Could someone drop me a PM? XD

[spoiler]Hey, this show implies Gluttony is dead. ohmy.gif Whereas the show leaves it open as to his fate. blink.gif

The line is:
"Lust, Gluttony, and Pride are gone."
while showing a few seconds before their last scene/death.

Funimation pretty much has license over any and everything FMA in the US. And they very well might release this later on.

As for why they did this. Well FMA never really had a recap special or clip show like a lot of anime and regular TV shows do. The movie is coming out very soon, and the special is a great refresher and brings you up to speed with everything that's happened. Its sort of a crash course of FMA in 55 minutes. It summarizes everything well, as well as giving you new insights to the events by having new voice-over commentary from the principle characters.

The Envy/Greed conversation, I remember someone posting a transcript of it on this board quite a while ago. It was apparently a reading done by the voice actors of a "deleted scene" at a convention. Well this scene was part of the voice over in the special. Pretty cool.

I know its a little rude to make my first post on a forum requestings something, but if anyone would be so kind as to send me a message on where to find this, I would be very grateful. I also realize that was a run on sentence maybe^^.

Same here. I have seen the entire series in Japanese already, but I'm still interested in this episode, so if you have any idea where I can get it, please PM me.
DryFire
just finished watching the specail. It made me want to watch some of the series again.

if you can't find the tracker just type it into google. It was either the first or second link for me.

Anyone know which OST has the brother's song on it?...i really want to get it. I believe the song is sung in russian. Or if anyone knows where i can get it for "free" it would be better.
Preypacer
The song Brothers is on the first OST.

Of the fansubbed version I saw of Reflections I prefer this translation of the lyrics to Brothers than the other versions I have found on the web. smile.gif

Also, this was weird. I had read the thread Envy-greed Convo From Event (spoilerish) that had the Envy and Greed conversation the day before I watched this. But the way I imagined it was done in a Con by the voice actors, would be awesome. Just imagine a large dark auditorium full of people with the spotlight on the people talking and Envy goes into the end of the speech speaking and physically acting with all that emotion! *shivers* Gives me goosebumps just thinking of it! biggrin.gif
darkangelslayer
I thought Reflections was pointless, it was good and all, but pointless. I kind of got all the emotions everyone talked about in Reflections from the series, I didn't need it repeated. However, I got a few things cleared up but not enough to make a 55 min. episode.

Reading this thread has me wondering if the "Reflections" special is the same as the "Anime Clips shown at the festival" dvd that came in the FMA festival set. I don't speak japanese, so came across this thread looking for a translation or summary of the anime DVD that came in the "FMA Festival - Tales of another" set, and all the descriptions of the "reflections" special sound like what I have seen. The "Festival" dvd (it's a 2 dvd set) has the converstion described above, with the seiyuu (in a large dark auditorium, spotlights on her) reading in front of a screen showing the anime, and the "clips shown at the festival (summary?)" dvd has the same anime scene ... and the festival reading is awesome, even on a 27 inch screen when I don't know what they are really saying!!

MG

edit: just looked at the "FMA Reflections" screencaps on fma.warcry.com and I do believe it is the same show on the "clips shown at the festival" DVD.
Preypacer
Oh wow, you mean I was right on how they set it up? happy.gif

Reflections could have very well come from that DVD set. It obviously had to come from somewhere, right? happy.gif BTW, What all else is on the set?

Another possibility is that Reflections came as an extra from the last Japanese DVD vol. I have no idea if it is out yet, or has been out for a while now. So, maybe, maybe not.

Anyone know if it did originally come from the special Festival DVD set or not?

Better than my own description, here's descriptions from a couple of places to buy it:
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=ANSB-1248
Disc 1 contains live footage featuring Romi Paku, Rie Kugimiya, Swoelu, Cool Joke, YeLLOW Generation, and more. Disc 2 contains animated footage aired on the event
http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/...anime/did-7314/
True fans of Fullmetal Alchemist should dig this 2-DVD set of the Fullmetal Alchemist FESTIVAL - Tales of Another. Occurring in Tokyo and Osaka in 2004, the FESTIVAL was put on for fans of the popular anime, and was a one-day event that featuring plenty of Fullmetal Alchemist merchandising and cosplay. The key event, however was a performance and mini-games played by the Fullmetal Alchemist voice actors! Official seiyuu Paku Romi (Edward Elric), Kugimiya Rie (Alphonse Elric), Toyoguchi Megumi (Winry Lockbell), Ookawa Tooru (Roy Mustang), Fujiwara Keiji (Maes Hughes), and Yamaguchi Mayumi (Envy) lent their voices to edited sequences from the anime, and this DVD contains those clips! In addition, various live performances were recorded, including some Kitade Nana , Bepa, Sowelu, COOL JOKE, YeLLOW Generation, and more! The second disc includes animated footage shown at the Festival. For those fans who couldn't make it to the festival - and even those who actually did go - this DVD set is an invaluable collectible.

Report from a festival attendee is here:
http://www.fullmetal-alchemist.com:81/foru....php/t1981.html

Note that this event occurred in Dec 2004 and the DVDs were first sold in April 2005. (I pre-ordered mine .. fortuately I already have a region-free DVD player.) SO when was the Reflections special aired?
Perhaps part of the "animated footage shown at the festival" was the Reflections special. It is the same footage shown in the live shots with the seiyuu reading in front of the giant screen.

There is also a short trailer for the movie, repeated with various combinations of voice actors talking VERY rapidly ... I wish I had a translation of those lines!!
