Ed_Elric_Fan, I agree with you entirely. I was SO mad at Al.. well, still am. I think he is truly behaving like a child. I know I know we all agreed on not blaming Al for that; he is just a child and had a right to be angry. But still, lol. Forgive me, I'm so biased lol
Otacon1
I believe Al kinda has the right to act like he did...one he IS a child and two he isnt really a person...All those built up emotions he just needs to vent his frustration, its nothing serious Al'll come back and everything will be hunky-dory! and Im sorry for earlier...I came on kinda stupid it was late and I had just come home and missed the episode so I was kinda upset! but I'll watch the whole thing on Thursday! So Im sorry to everyone who thought I was just some ignorant idiot...
ymsg
No worries. You're not an idiot. lol.
CursedAnubis
Winry: You didn't drink your milk.
Ed: *twitch*
Winry: Edward...
Ed *quietly* : You drink it, I hate milk, it's like drinking vomit.
Winry: WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, MILKS GOOD FOR YOU, DRINK IT!
Ed: FORGET IT! I HATE WHAT I HATE, IT'S NOT LIKE I'll DIE IF I DON'T DRINK THAT CRAP
Winry: JEEZ ED, THIS IS THE REASON YOU'RE ALWAYS GONNA BE THE SIZE OF A BEAN!
Ed: A BEAN?!
Winry: Yeah, a bean.

Lol, that was the best interaction between Winry and Ed that we've seen yet. Ah, the secret of Ed's diminutive status, revealed! laugh.gif
ymsg
OMG that was SOO funny. I about fell over. And since I am a shrimpo, I went to get some milk. *it tastes like vomit x_x* lol
Haldir of Lorien
I think Alphonse had plenty reason to get mad.I would be pissed off too if the only family I had left was keeping secrets from me.he was so upset, poor Ed what a way to spend his birthday, but he shoulda told Al when in Resembol, maybe then Alphonse would not be so heart broken.I doubt Ed made up his memories though, because it's not like Ed to do that to his own brother, and besides,if the person Alphonse Elric never existed, why would Ed need to attach a soul to a piece of armor??I think that is enough proof that Al was a real person smile.gif
LoMXD
Al sounded wayy pissed off during the whole milke thing. Al : Ed just drink the dumb milk.
that was really scarey. but Hali your right. I don't think that Ed made up Al's life. Why should Al belive Berry anyway? HE WAS A LUNATIC!!!
By the way was it just me or was that a certain someone at the train board her hair looked awfully familiar.(trying not to be a spoiler) but didd anyone else recognize her ?
Elysia was sooo cuuutee I now have trouble deciding who is cuter Nina or Elysia. but Winry's face when she told Ed congtradulations, I would have felt like an idiot if I did that. The way she held Ed back after Al jumped, that was cute too.
Jen_Elric
Well, remember that at first AL didn't believe Barry (or didn't want to). He kept saying, "I'm ALphonse Elric! I know who I am!". But Barry has a way of putting doubt into people's minds. Yes, Barry's a lunatic, but to hear all this stuff from another one that has his soul affixed to a suit of armor, and having remembered that your brother want to tell you something, AND not remembering everything in your past, that can cause damage.
Boy, I hope that made sense...
Luckyalchemy27
I felt really bad at the end....you could tell Al felt really bad about what he'd said and done, and it must have must have been horrible for Ed to see his brother act like that.

Argh, I'm dying to see the next episode! It's gonna kill me when it goes off the air. Can't....wait.....till....fall....

I hated the dub changes on Al's part.

The intention for the episode was to show that Al can falter in his loyalty and be insecure once in a while. And he was incredibly insecure. He was scared, worried, and overly compliant, never even remotely rude to Ed or Winry until the end when he flipped out. No "Whatever", "Shut up", or "Drink the dumb milk."

I can't understand the hate for Al on this account, but maybe that's just because I watched the original first, which made me pity Al, rather than want to slap him. Seriously, most dub changes are a small deal for me, but this kind of character change was almost too much. Funimation deserves at least a letter for this. I've noticed from the beginning that they've been downplaying Al's maturity and intelligence, but that was ridiculous.
The Thunder Alchemist
Hmmm... did Al's anchor point change when Ed fixed him, and did this happen when ed fixed him the other time to. It looks like the symbol become more complex.
Luckyalchemy27
*blinks*
*thinks hard*

I don't think so......

i really liked this episode, Al was a bit meaner, but i felt sorry for him sad.gif

I don't think that Al's seal changed. It might have glowed or something, but I don't think that it changed. We'll have to look for that on Thursday.

difference in interpretation...simple as that. This came up several times when comparing the subbed to dubbed. The originaly to us would seem 'right' because we saw that first...we're used to Paku-san being the voice of Ed...people who watch the dubb is used to Vic and would see the dubbed as 'right' because they saw it first....it's a human phycological thing =_=;;;; But I agree.

To all that said that they hate Al: ... (if you are girls) hopeless Edward Elric fangirls... :x *hides* (why don't you hate Envy and other people that SEVERELY injured Ed then... Al only pushed him.)

remember that his was binded to that armor at age 9/10... mentally, you can't grow in something that is dead so his psychology state stays at that age... also, don't you think Ed's overprotective-ness may also adds on it? and really, what's wrong with hitting Ed? At least Al didn't just run over to Ed and pull him up and scream at him (ohhh that's what Ed always do to people that calls him a bean... :x)

On episode 22, Ed said something like "Don't take him away from me... please..." (I think that's what he said in the dub... in original I need to check they are not in my comp) and well, that line can affect Al's thought in some way too. It sounded as if that Ed doesn't want to be left alone (and at that point Al kinda already gave up his life too... "What am I anyways?") so really, it brings in the possibility that Ed created Al because Ed doesn't want to be alone... also, would it really be a preferred lifestyle for Al to be stuck with this armor? Al didn't get to choose. Sure, you may say that Ed sacrificed his arm for Al but... in one sense, Ed doesn't want to be left alone (but of course, he was only 10 ^^ this is what every normal child thinks) so it does make sense for Al to think that Ed CREATED him.

Altho the parts on Al was changed between the original and the dub, both sound right to me and makes sense (just in a different way I suppose. Al sounds more mad in the dub... while in the original, it shows how Al is traumadized... there is a lack of emotion you can express when you don't have your brain with you, don't you think? I think that was a pretty touch for the original... his invisible tears) Why are you all so pissed at Al? He went through a lot... like the part where Nina told him to eat and he can't. People look at him weirdly because he wears an armor (and it wasn't his choice... really, if I were Al, I definately would be mad at Ed for a while because altho Al approved it, it was Ed who started the "let's bring mom back!" And it who started it still got his flesh and bones, while Al only got this... he isn't even sure if he can be considered human in this lump of steel.) How does it feel to not able to feel anything, not able to sleep? To be hollow? There are just too much pressure on him that, well he has to let it out. Also... since he only got his soul with this armor with no mind and body, the stability and equilbrium and such are already messed up... I was actually surprised that he didn't blow up till now (which is like, 3/4 years after his soul got attached to the armor)

Really, you need to put yourself in Al's <strike>shoes</strike> armor... (I am not saying this because I am an Al fangirl... in fact, I used to like Ed better than Al until I start to think in Al's shoes more) imagine that you have to live HIS life... no parents, no emotions (it sounded like his is always stuck as a 9/10 years old because he was only reacting in the way he THINKS he should react based on what he remembers as a child so I don't call those "reactions" real "emotions"), can't feel, can't eat, can't sleep, no home (it was Ed who chose to burn it down. Al didn't want to burn it down.), no body, no warmth, no facial expressions (and ever notice that Winry talks to Ed much more? It's as if Winry fears Al and kinda... isolated him too <--- only applies for anime)... no everything. The only thing he got is his brother (who hides everything fron him sleep.gif) and now he got nothing else to rely on. Yea, Barry and Tucker may be lunatics but they are adults. Al is those type that does listen to what adults say (he is more obedient and willing to listen) and also remember that Tucker, after all, was a state alchemist therefore he does have some great knowledge of Alchemy. Al can't totally doubt what Tucker said.

... enough said... I think I made my point.

His seal didn't change, I think that Al's seal is what makes Al look the way he does. Each bend in the seal is a part of Al's armor so in order for the Armor to be repaired, Ed had to activate Al's seal which also holds his soul to the armor.

Oh and Al wasn't being mean. You have to remember, he is still a little kid, and a little kid being told that he may not exist would change them in a way that we may not understand. He also was remembering that when Ed was talking to him back at Winrey's house, Ed wasn't able to finish a sentence that was something alonge the lines of "I was afraid to tell you this before, because I was afraid of how you would react." So I can easily see why Al was in the state that he was in.

Now that Al knows how bad it is to be sealed to the armor, I don't think that he would ever switch with Ed. He cares too much about him to do something like that. I don't know if that is what you meant, but I thought I'd respond anyway.

Ed is a child to. And even though Al is younger, he is not any less smart than Ed. Remember, Al finished the State Certification Exam in the alloted time and Ed didn't.
ymsg
That's true as well. Although he'd never admit it, Ed is still a child. But that aside, Ed has had to make some of the hardest choices of his life, and most of the time, without much thought prior. He hsan't had a lot of time to make these descisions. He had to choose how to save Al's life when he almost lost his soul, while suffering from his own injuries.

He's always trying his best to do what's right for Al, forgetting his own safety. Ed has always done his best for Al, and how does that change as they grow older? I don't find that it does. Ed always seems to have Al's priorities first.

Did anyone notice Armstrong's face when Winry told Ed that it is his fault the automail broke? His eyes were sticking out and the rest of his face was blank. It was hilarious. laugh.gif
Mustang's Apprentice
This episode was pretty funny with Ed getting pimp-slapped, Elysia's party, and a lot of characters appeared.

And Al just had to run off......................

Was the people Winry saw at the train station Izumi and her husband?
Just checking......
Dragons04
the starting and the almost all of the episodes was funny with the gleaming of Winry's eyes, and it turns into a sad ending when Al runs away from Ed
ymsg
Yeah, it started hilariously, and ended so sad. ;-;
Sony05SR
This was such a sad episode. But who where the two important characters? I didn't catch that part. But Ed still didn't tell Al what he wanted to tell him in Risembol! The suspense will kill me people!!!!!!! unsure.gif
Mustang's Apprentice
Spoilers Ahead.

I'm guessing the two important people were Izumi and her husband and Ed wanted to ask Al if Al was angry at him for putting him in the suit of armor.
fmaedfan
I thought it was sad that al ran away from ed when he and winry tryed to tell him hes wrong. What di ed want to tell him that he couldnt??

This show is, great.. Isnt it supposed to get more violent later in the series? Not that gore or whatever appeals to me but just out of curiousity. Crap I have to start buying the DVDs again....
TheVileOne
Without giving away anything, yes. Its going to get a lot more brutal later on. But the first season was pretty brutal enough.
AA battery
so now that everyone has watched epi 24... anyone still HATES Al here? =\

someone (sorry forgot who): I never said what Ed did was wrong. It's just that it's also necessary to think from Al's perspective, not only from Ed (just because he is the protagonist! lol).

And I don't think that, if Al was the one that didn't get consumed by the gate, would try binding Ed's soul onto an armor... he would probably sunk... forever... (he seems to be those type) or find a different way (but will take time for research)?

manga spoiler ahead:
Al didn't run away from Ed in manga tho... it was Ed that walked away after he heard what Al had to say and Al chased him back and apologized... very different eh? Makes you love Al more xD
ymsg
Meh. Serves as to why I like the anime better. lol jk. I am SO biased.
chocolate_eds_everywhere
Hey did anyone notice besides that when winery arrives to give ed and al repairs and she's looking around 4 her esscourt and she looks to the left and there r 2 ppl looking at the map and those 2 ppl r Izumi and his husband i was crackin up!!!!
The Onslaught
I WILL ENLIGHT Y'ALL

FIRST OF ALL MAES HUGHES DIES, ELYSIA DOESN'T DIE AND SCAR DIES, THE MOST INTERESTING IS THAT HE DIES SAVING ALPHONSE ELRIC. HOW?, HE DIES WHILE DOING A TRANSMUTATION, IN OTHER WORDS SCAR CONVERTED ALPHONSE ELRIC INTO THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE.

THAT'S WHY ALPHONSE ELRIC RULES, HE IS THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE!!!!!

INTERESTING ISN'T IT

Awesome episode where things that have been building up for quite some time finally come to a head.

There was a noticeable change in the English voice acting. Al was a lot more aggressive, venomous, and angry in the hospital when he spoke. "Drink the dumb milk." In the Japanese version he's very thoughtful, and somewhat...internally sad. He doesn't really become scary and angry until the end of the episode where Ed tries to fix him. But I liked this approach in the episode, it was different, and they made it work.

I agree completly. I was only waiting for someone to bring this up. It was a HUGE difference that dub took, and it was a GOOD turn, for once. The English actually affected me more in this episode.

I teared up. XD;; This episode is definalty one of my favorites.
