Yeah, dubs just don't work sometimes. They need way more emotion....

Again, not ALL dubs are the same. In fact, it's usually the original Japanese that are lacking in emotion, or are just giving far too much emotion.

I think a lot of the trouble with people who watch dubs are they watch 2 or 3 dubs that don't match up to their standards, and suddenly that means ALL dubs are bad. While I will admit some dubs are better than others, you should REALLY give more of them a chance.

Some good dubs to check out:
Fruits Basket
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni *Rena's voice will seem awkward at first, but it's easy to get used to once she goes crazy
Dragon Ball (Z)
Pokemon
Digimon
Sailor Moon *Regardless of the edits, the voice acting is excellent
Akira
Wolf's Rain
Tenchi Muyo!

Among others. Rather than judging a dub by how the voices compare with the original Japanese voices, try listening to how they fit the characters, how much they make sense to an American audience, or even the quality of the dub in general.

Remember, there's only so much the dubbers can do with so much Japanese content, to make it make sense to an American audience. Nowadays, they keep it almost exact to the Japanese text, but way back when (i.e. Pokemon) onigiri = jelly donuts. Why? Because American 4 year olds don't know what onigiri are. You can't blame the dubs for this, they're usually doing their best.

Also, mispronunciation of names, are not the actors faults. As Greg Ayres explained at Anime North this year, the director chooses how they say the names of characters and places.

?! at fruits basket.
That is one of the dubbings that give anime dubbings a bad name.
I can't STAND that dub.
Hiro's and Kyo's dub are good but everyone else is terrible with just about no emotion.

the dubs that I think are amazing and better than the japanese are:

fma
soul eater
BLEACH <333 (my favorite dub its so hilarious)
bleach's is so hilarious!
it was so americanized xD
I memorize the lines.

death note
haruhi suzumiya

and there are many other good ones just not amazing.
and maybe the original japanese lacks emotion sometimes too. its undetectable by people who don't actually speak japanese.
and its so fun to look up the voice actors of english dub!

Bleach was a joke of a dub . Sucked .
Fma was pretty average .
The only dub i find worth mentioning is dragon ball z . Mainly because of its great music .
Fruits basket dub made a mockery of the show.
Naruto was bland . . .

@little washu . . . Over emotion can be handled . . Lack of emotion makes the whole scene , BORING . .

And you've obviously seen every single dub ever made so you know this is a fact that all dubs are lacking in emotion ^^? Wow! You're so amazing! I don't know how you found the time to watch every dub out there! Tell me, how did you do it?

He odviously didn't watch every single dub who has time for that he's just making assumptions..

I was being facetious.

I don't hate dubbing as a whole, but weather I like the dubbing of a specific anime is a different story. I think some animes are dubbed well, and sue me, are done better than the Japenese version. One example would be Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. On the other hand, some animes are just done terribly and I can't even watch a minute of them in English, like for example, Clannad. It all depends on the company and the performance weather it sounds good or not.
Dark-Winds
No.

I think that dubbing is awesome. For example, I love the dub of Fullmetal Alchemist, as well as Brotherhood, much more than I like the sub.

However, for some animes, like Clannad, I like the sub more. This is mainly because the voice acting is bad. If the voice acting is bad then, naturally, I'll enjoy the sub more.

Im one of those people who watched fma in english and went "Wow this is awesome" then i went to japanese and went "Whoa this is way better" Tried to go back to dub and went "This.... is crap" i really feel that Romi and Rie (sorry if i spelt it wrong) made the voices awesome and in Brotherhood with Al's voice being changed i had to watch it in subs, no offence to the maxey lovers out there but when you get used to aaron dismuke and rie having them in there just doesnt seem right sad.gif
Also with Fruits basket it was the same i love the sub better than the dub, but i hate it twhn they try to redo the anime openings thats why when its a opening like fma i like how they keep it in japanese and dont wreck it with voiceovers which can kill the perfectly good song
Puka-chan
I hate almost all german dubs. But I really like some of the english dubs happy.gif
However, nothing can beat the japanese one biggrin.gif
