while i don't want to see havoc die, i didn't think that his wound looked fatal and i do think that lust is planning to use roy mustang as the "human sacrifice" needed (i'm guessing here) to create her new body, so i guess that i thought the most likely choice of the poll was that havoc defends roy and dies, although none of the possibilities for this next chapter look too good.

Your choices make either one of them die...I chose the Al option because it was the only one that didn't involve them dying. I don't think Havoc can move fast enough to get there. And as for Roy being the sacrifice for that body popping out of the stone, maybe he's just one of them. There should be more so I guess one human wouldn't work. And Riza's kind of far away isn't she? And Al...Well, like you said, anything is possible in the manga world.

I think Hughes have so many fans because of anime more than Manga.

Hughes did not do alot compared to anime.
Maybe, it is my point of view.

Anyway, in anime I was also sad about hughes but not in manga.
Havoc is so funny, and I hope he does not get killed.
I think I post my opinion about Lust and Havoc.

I said somewhere that Havoc will get killed by Lust.
And, it is nearly come true.
we are not sure that Havoc is dead.

So, I made that poll.
Major issue at this point towards ch 39 is about Roy.
Lust is not dead, and he is in danger.

I think Lust will kill him because I think Roy might endanger to the whole evil plan of homuculus gang and their boss.

Hughes was a great character. But he had to die because he knew too much. Kind of foreshadows Roy's death. He knows too much, I guess.

Lust looks like she's creating another body out of that stone. Roy can't really do anything unless he's got some other trick with alchemy or someone comes to the rescue. And she's ignoring Havoc so maybe Havoc will do something...Never know. Maybe something utterly stupid or surprising will happen and neither will die. It's been known to happen before. I'm hoping it to happen again for them. (Although it's extremely unlikely...)

Havoc is too funny and cool to die. It sucks to die like that. And Roy...Well, many Roy/Riza fans would attempt to assasinate Arakawa. Geez, my favorite characters end up dying a lot.

what? no Xing guys saves the day?

anyway, i don't think lust needs Roy's body as a replacement since she's already regenerating her own... and the human sacrifice thing, Roy is only a candidate meaning there are others. maybe Ed is one of them?

havoc to save Roy? well... maybe... but, it's a bit too late for that since Roy is already in close contact with Lust. so the same goes for riza and other people who will try to die for him.

maybe this is the part where Roy gets to see the 'gate' like the Elric brothers did (traumatic situation anyone?) and use the "clapping alchemy" to save his own skin.... maybe... just maybe...

so, I voted for Al saving the day since he's the only one who's capable of doing that, since Ed is out with Armstrong.

But at this point, we can't really come to a conclusion since we really haven't seen or read the whole of chap 38. please yebyosh, scanlate it soon... >_<

I am Envy fan. Only thing, I see, is Envy getting a*s kicked or running away like a dog. And, Gluttony, what is he doing? cannot even kill or eat a single dog.

And, for Chibi Viki and other Roy fans, I must accept that Roy was the one who saved Riza. I thought it is impossible for Roy to be on time.
Anyway, Roy is now in danger.

I think Al will save the day, they (al and riza) don't seem to be that far, comparing to how far Roy was when gluttony was gonna eat riza, and jesus! He arrived there fast...

just finished reading chap 38..

anyway, yeah, sad to say, envy did get his/her as kicked by an unrelenting lanfan. so, now i wonder what ling will do and were did that other ninja guy go?

and for this poll, after reading the chapter... yep, i definitely believe that Al will save the day.

but then... what about havoc? (aaaw... poor havoc got squished in the backseat of the car by Al... his luck just keeps getting worst... ;;;)

I miss the option "Riza will save roy, they will fall in love and will live happily after !!!!"

I voted for the first option, I think it will be quite possible if roy can get to the Philopherser stone again, he maybe can burn it. But it is manga so maybe Al and Riza will get rid of Lust.

btw. what would be a funny thing would be that riza just stepped in after lust said " Are you supposed to violently thrust your hand in a women's breast" she hits roy and sais "How dear you, what about me !!!"

... Or, if Arakawa-sensei is mean, next chapter could be Ed-only to compensate for him not being in this chapter.

No! As much as I would love to see Ed, I want to know what'll happen to Roy! And him and Riza realizing their feelinga for each other! =^_^=

Nobody has voted for Havoc being able to survive... Then again, Al coming to save the day includes everybody being able to survive...right?

let's just say Havoc's percentage of survival is slim... very slim... but, then again, as i've said before, if he's supposed to die, then he should've been dead by the end of the chapter.

other than God, only one other person, can prevent Arakawa-sensei from killing off havoc: Gangan magazine's editor!

I read from my "how-to-draw manga" book that manga-kas have to present their story to the editor and must get their approval first before moving on. hopefully, arakawa-sensei' editor like havoc and commands (hehehe) her to let him live...

I read alot of manga from Japan.

Many mangas have small stories at the end of each volume.
Most of them are stories b/t their assistants or their editors before they chose the story.

I think each manga writer is assigned with one editor, but sometimes, there can be more than that, but it can happen if a manga is really famous.

In English, we use the word Editor, but they are more like agents from publishing company in order to keep in touch with manga writer in-case they run away because they might not finish their work before their dead line.
The phrase, "Run a way" might be too harsh, but their main job is watch manga writer and make them to finish the work befor the dead line. They also give ideas and communicate with manga writer before the manga writer starts his chapter. But it is not so approval thing, and I believe most of power of decision is still with manga writer.

There are real editors in manga publishing company, but they are higher rank employees(similar to editors in Newspaper company). They only approve things when the manga starts off. I do not believe the editor can interact with every manga writers in the magazine. It will be the pain in the a*s job because there is only one editor for each magazine. It will be hard to work with 7 or 8 manga writers specially for weekly magazine, and they do not pay their employees well in the field of manga publication in Japan.

Anyway, I just want to help ones who might want to know more about editors thing in Japan manga society.

She is funnier in anime than manga.

I think Lust is more like somekind organism, which has a core that holds a lot of power.
I do not believe Roy has enough alchemic talent or skill to destroy Lust. Our only hope is Al. I think he might also save Havoc's life.

Lust said the stone is the nucleus, which meant all memory are stored in the stone. So the body does not have much to do with it, it is the stone itself that allowed regeneration.

I don't think Al will come, coz he and Riza went to the other way, which might be where Barry went to go after his 'body' and maybe... they found Father!

But maybe they heard the explosion and got worried, so they went back to see if there was trouble.

I don't think anybody's going to die. But I don't think Al is going to save everyone either.... Strange.

And I don't really mind the Ed-centric piece next. (and noooo~ this isn't just because of me being an extreme Ed fan either XP) I think I just don't want to find out just yet. Suppose Havoc does die. Or Roy. Or anyone. I'd have a fit~

But for now, as strange as it may sound I don't think anyone dies and Al isn't super-quick like Roy seems to be to save the day. (that wasn't English at all, but I don't care) And Roy is lightening. The way he arrived at Ross' alley to kill her off like that. And again, just in time to save Riza and Fury.

Ooooh. But I thought Al was able to use the clap-technique because he'd seen the Gate while his body was taken from him. Afterwards he had no memories from the truth. The traumatic experience was the key to unlock those memories, hence him being able to do the clap-alchemy-Ed-down. (XD Pooor Ed~)

So unless Roy has seen the Gate before... Or was this anime-only?? Maybe I just got it all mixed up once again~ Geez anime deviating from manga is not a good thing.

But I thought you can only see the gate if you do human transmutation or any forbidden alchemy... It doesn't seem likely that Roy has seen the gate before. Although, in the anime, Roy was thinking about trying human transmutation, but didn't follow through...

Ugh... Don't kill Ed, Don't kill Roy, Don't kill Al, Don't kill Riza, now Don't kill Havoc... At this rate, every good supporting character will have an attached mob to them demanding them not to be killed. Thank goodness Hughes got killed early before his fans got a whiff of that *evil cackle*

Sure I like them (Hughes, the madly devoted father figure was very very likeable) but it is because they get killed with reasonable plots that the manga truly steps out from the rest. No one is truly untouchable here (except for the leads). I can bet though that Roy and Riza being semi-leads would not get killed this early.

Oh yes... it is also highly likely that Armstrong has the highest survival probability. Arakawa-sensei and gang love him too much...

I am with you man, but sometimes, we have to kill someone to drive the story more extreme!!

I was sad about Hughes, but it was a good choice to lose him. Because he was a family man and a good soldier. Should I say a good man in every aspects?
But sacrificing him, it developed many character in emotionally and change some of characters in a good way. It is only my point of view, so please do not start an argument.

remember guys, the death of every character here has a meaning... so i don't think Arakawa would recklessly kill off characters just for the heck of it.

in my POV Hughes' death triggered Roy's own story/purpose in the manga. If Hughes didn't die, then he would be just another character in the background waiting for the main protragonists to move.

martel's death was to upgrade Al's alchemy...
