<Moving from FMA Anime American Audience sub-forum to FMA Anime Japanese Audience sun-forum where all DVD related threads are being collected currently. 02/21/07 ~Tombow.>

Hey guys, Volume 2 of the series was released today on DVD. I got it for $19.99 at Best Buy. The new reversible cover is great, featuring Alphonse fighting Ed.

Still not much in the way of extras, but the DVD does contain another extra long FMA booklet like the first volume. Some more character sketches, production and location sketches, info., original art, etc. Pretty cool. I can't wait to own this entire series on DVD. They just better not release the whole thing with better extras later on or I will be pissed! The DVD has 4 episodes, episodes 5-8 of the series.

I'm planning to buy it this weekend at my local comic store. I wonder how Tucker sounds like.(I don't have Cartoon Network sad.gif )
TheVileOne
Tucker sounds pretty good in English. I think you will be satisfied with Chuck Huber's work.
ScarredSweetheart
I just got it a couple of hours ago. The people at BestBuy were hiding it from me, until I asked them polietly if they could just check the backroom. They gave it to me reluctantly, but I got it! yay. And I am still highly tramatized by the Nina wall stain.
AlphonseRules
I also got mine at Best Buy, but unfortunatly it started skipping during the second episode. I was a little ticked but the reciept told me I can just exchange it for a new one. Damn this inconvinience but at least they will let me return it for another.

Dear, I think many people are...But now I need it...I need it now!!! I can't believe that I have to wait until my b-day for it....I'll probably won't have enough money for it after I rebuy FF 10-2...But if I do, I'll get, unless I get for my b-day! But now you must lest me borrow it, you do know that, right?

Tucker's voice is the same voice as Hiei (from Yu Yu Hakusho) and #17 (Dragon Ball Z).

I just snagged this DVD today, I liked the insert booklet.

...As ScarredSweetheart said, the Nina-Chimera stain is slightly disturbing...

Phew for a second i saw that part in episode 5 i thought hawkeye got promoted XP Did you watch the easter egg in the 2nd Dvd? >.> its really um..weird..
TheVileOne
Access for the easter eggs on this DVD volume are the same as the first one.

On the main menu and click on episodes. When you click on a certain episode it will show you the chapters. Highlight the "IV" then click right and it will reveal an Ouroburous symbol. Select the symbol and it will give a comedic, alternate voiceover for the next episode preview. This works on all four episodes on the DVD.
angieness
My store ended up getting like 10 reserves for it so Funimation sent us a crapload of copies, about 20 I think, wihch is more than we got for Sideways this week heh. I just bought the DVD itself today and cracked it open and the booklet had that nice new book smell and everything. Have yet to watch it though!
TheVileOne
Remember guys, the DVD's are the only way to see the original openings, and the unclipped endings. Plus episode 7 had the alternate ending with the pictures of Al, Ed, and Nina together.
FullMetal_Edward
I was looking for it in Best Buy I didn't see it until my cousin came and pointed to it on the top shelf dry.gif

Also, in the ending of episode 7 I believe that Ed has tears in his eyes, normally he is happy and smiling.
I think that they should put more artwork like the Nina splatter in the booklets. Specifically the complete drawing of Al and Ed's mother when they try to bring her back(now that is a creepy drawing).
TheVileOne
I think you are right about that AlphonseRules.

The DVD also has a cool little trailer for volume 3: Equivalent Exchange of the series on DVD, due out May 31st.

So how many people here reverse the DVD covers like me? I just think the other side looks a lot cooler with the bare background and Ed in full color with out being blocked by all the text.
NeoKakashi
Japanese cover>>Somewhat cool FUNimation cover. Power to the DVD cover flippers!
AlphonseRules
I never thought about reversing the cover. Just be careful that you don't mess it up bending it backwards and all.
TheVileOne
Its really quite easy AlphonseRules, and trust me, its so much more fucking badass. Try it, it doesn't really mess up the cover at all. Just don't try to fold it the opposite way. Take the cover out, turn it around, maker sure the DVD clambshell (case) is opened up all the way and the plastic lamination is sticking out enough, and just slide the turned cover back in, and VOILA, insta badass FMA DVD cover.

I love how-to essays smile.gif .
AlphonseRules
Yeah, I understand the process that is not my problem. If you put it in backwards like that, everytime you close the case you are folding the cover in the opposite direction that it was ment to bend. I just think it might cause some wear after awhile. Then again how often do you open and close a DVD case.
TheVileOne
Dude, its fricking paper, its not meant to fold anyway. Doing it the other way is NOT going to hurt it. Its reversible for a reason, and the paper is flexible.
Stained_Wings
i preordered it from Amazon.com on april 1, so it should be here sometime next week. i'm so excited!! i've never seen these episodes before cuz i started following the series after episode 13. yee!
yannathedemonalchemist
i just got the dvd a coupleof days ago and my son won't let me watch anything else.....at least this is one anime series that i know that i can get him to sit down and watch so that i can get things done around the house......the dvd is awesome.....i am starting to catch up on episodes that i missed......cya all soon
TheVileOne
Remember to use discretion when letting your son view said episodes yanna. That is unless he's a lot older than I think.
Greensky
I pre-ordered from Amazon.com also, but they STILL havn't shipped my order yet. Those dorkists... mad.gif

The Colonel's Girl
I noticed something in ep. 6 near the end where Ed passes his alchemist test by saving the guy that did the tower from the falling rocks, and creates the symbol in the sky while the 'magic flowers' are falling. If you look closely, you see the Homunculi symbol.
TheVileOne
Where is the symbol? Is it in the clouds or something?

I thought it was a flower crown just like the one Ed made for Nina. But now that you mentioned it, it does look like the Ouroboros symbol... blink.gif

It is sort of hard to see it because of all the light, but the symbol is hanging above the arena (forgot where the final part of the exam took place).
TheVileOne
Well I know the ring of flowers wasn't the symbol. It was kind of symbolic to me of how the last request of Ed's mother was to make a ring of flowers for her.

I got mine on Tuesday, I was very pleased. I am hoping we will get those booklets in every issue because they are really very nice. Although I still wish the DVDs would come out sooner. laugh.gif

*nods* i'm pretty sure that those booklets come with each DVD but in the 3 DVD it is advertised that a 20 page are booklet comes with it, so i'm unsure if that is the same book or something different. none of the other DVD's have it advertised with them... soo...
AlphonseRules
I also saw that somewhere. I counted the pages in the booklet for volume 2 and I think that it came to 19 or 20 so I don't think that volume 3 will come with anything extra.
Steel Alchemist
I've bought mine to! Cartoon Network doesn't have special features and doesn't come with anything.

lol thank you for counting for me and allowing me to stay lazy and not get up, walk 5 feet, and open my art tin, and then open DVD 2. lol you are a life saver.... who knows that damage that could have caused to me XD!! anyways i kinda HOPE for extra but if their isn't then its ok happy.gif

No problem Kyo, I thought you'd appreciate that. I wish that there were more extras to but its no big deal.

hey, i have a sort of urgent question: i am choosing right now whether to buy DVD from japan or wait for the US version but there are some questions to be cleared first--hope some experts here can offer me some clue:
1) for the Japanese version--does that have at least english subtitle or sth like that?
2) for the Funimation dvd--it is said that the english dub is stereo &*( but for Japanese pronunciation it is mono (*)*)((), is there a lot of difference out there?
3) is the funimation version as complete as the japanese version? any cut/censorship?

..thanks!

1. sth? There are optional English subtitles for the DVD. Funimation isn't incompetent with their anime releases like Dreamworks.

2. There are 3 audio language tracks. English stereo. Japanese stereo. And English 5.1 dolby surround sound.

3. THERE IS NO CUTTING CENSORSHIP AT ALL ON THE DVD'S! THEY WILL NEVER EVER DO THIS! All the Fullmetal Alchemist DVD's will be UNCUT AND UNEDITED. This includes the restoration of the show's original openings and unclipped endings.
cutewitch
hoho, maybe i did not make it clear--i mean the dvd released by japanese Japanese DVD and the ones we can get from bestbuy~~

when i browsed the amazon.com, it said that:
Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo), English (Dolby Digital 5.1), Japanese (PCM Mono)

my problem is: does this mean the japanese mono sound less vivid than the english ones?

Its probably less vivid and as strong as the English 5.1 audio language track, but its in stereo so it sounds fine to me.

I really don't see the point of paying the extra money for Japanese imports. Unless you live in a different DVD region.
cutewitch
huhu, should have been to nasdaq be 4 asking this~~ anyway, just wonder how many yrs shall i have to wait to collect ALL of the dvds~~~

If they continue releasing them 8 weeks apart, my guess would be Feb. 2007 or sometime early in 2007.

Yes, there are going to be 4 art boxs. the First one came with DVD 1 and had the frist OST in it and it all cam in a decorative tin happy.gif as for the next three i dont know about them
AlphonseRules
If what you are calling the art boxes is the collector's tins, then I think that you are incorrect. From what I have hear/read there are going to be two more collector's tin sets.
TheVileOne
Yeah, I seriously doubt they would release four total. Considering the first one holds 5 DVDs. They are only going to release two more which will hold four each for 13 total DVD volumes. If they released 3 more it would be like 3 DVDs, 3 DVDs, 2 DVDs. Funimation is NOT going to do that. It will be 2 more art boxes/collector's tins whatever for 4 DVD volumes each.
Kyo_Umerio
oh i see ~_~ that was just me speaking and not thinking. so do you think that the other 2 Art Tins with have Roy and the Rest of the Military. and then the last one have the Sins? what does you think the other 2 will look like?
TheVileOne
That'd be a neat idea. Have the Elrics on one set, military crew on the other, and sins on the last. I'm not sure what they will look like though.

we can only hope i guess happy.gif lol and i wonder if they will all be black o.O;;; OMG!! it would be so kewl if the Next one had the Military on it and istead of the serpent cross they had the Flame Alchemy Circle or the Military symbol.... and for the Sins the Oburous symbol. happy.gif
